I've only seen two cases where the embassy requested the DAS certificate for the US citizen, so it's not very common. Maybe the CO felt that they needed to make sure the dates to and from Colombia match what you said during the interview, who knows.

Diana

Diana,

so do you think it would be a good idea for people to get just a DAS certificate before the interview just incase we (the US citizens) are asked for one?

That was terrible to hear, but its reality. I spoke to my wife yesterday, she said the document is a public document and its good up until my son reaches 18 years of age. Thanks again for the heads up on this, last thing i want is to pay for another plane ticket because das denies the document.

It's a real pain in the butt but the DAS is really strict about having a recent permission slip signed and sealed not only the first time they leave the country, but every time they go back and leave again. This will be needed until the child turns 18.

To be honest with you it is very, very, very rare to see this. I think that if you have a solid case and really good evidence to back it up, you should be fine. It is just a hassle to get it because you would have to send your fiancée documents that will have to be translated and apostilled and on top of that she needs a document giving her permission to run that errand for you. All of that for a document that they will most likely not even ask you for. You know?

Panama Jack,

I've been stressing of trying to find out how I'm going to get DAS records in case they ask for them in our interview and want to know what prompted the interviewer to request this for you when its not written in the packets. I've got an interview in a few weeks and cant afford to travel back to Bogota for a second interview..

By chance do you have a criminal record I the USA or any other country, does your fiancee have a criminal record? Are there stamps on your passport from countries that are enemies of the USA?

Also the USCIS does a background check before the NOA2 so you should have been in the clear before the interview..

Lastly is there a different procedure for the USC to get the DAS police and immigration certificates?

I hope all goes well after you get these reports.

Mike,

Don't sweat it...unfortunately Drew's case is unique. If you have a clean background in the US and Colombia, then they will not ask for these documents. The CO obviously noticed a red flag and therefore requested more info from Drew.

No worries mate...take a deep breath because you have enough to worry about with your upcoming interview.

The USCIS only verifies whether you have provided all the essential documents and if the info is correct. It is the burden of the embassy to detect fraud, inconsistences, and any red flags. The embassy is the last line of defense, so to speak.

Good luck with your interview!!

I've got another question for you if you dont mind.

Which airport in the USA was your POE and what kind of questions were you asked and how was the overall experience?

Im thinking about having my fiancee come through Miami but I've heard the wait times can be up to 5 hours at Immigration.

she has not enter usa yet because she is sick we will find out next week if she is well enough for travel. here is the story of what happen during my interview

we left the apartment at 6am and took maybe 5min to get there. they told us to get in line 3 while we waited to go through security to enter embassy. they started letting us in at 6:30 and told us to go to window 40. around 7am a lady came over to our group of people and gave us a folder to organize all the papers in. a little while later they started calling people to window 30 and 31 to turn in papers. they did not call us and we was wondering how long it was going to be. finally they call 5 of us to window 40 and they told us to follow them to window 4 where the interview was. we made a couple of friends there while we waited and they turned their paper work into windows 30 and 31. it was not very cold to me there but other people said it was i guess it just depends where you are from. finally they call us to window 4 and we turned in our papers. we are thinking that they have us doing something different maybe because we did not pass medical. so we asked one of the 5 people that came with us to window 4 if they had all papers and they say yes. they started finger printing everyone that went through window 30 and 31 so we are very concerned because we did not do samething as others and they have not called any of us to finger printing. at this point we think they might just tell us to go home until we get medical. its around lunch time and the place is getting thined out and we are wondering if and when we will get interview. a little later they call everyone that did not have an interview yet to stand in line and they took our names and told us to sit down again. finally 30 min later they call us for interview. i stood next to sandra as they interviewed her and they asked her a few questions and they wanted to talk to me. the only thing he said was everything looked good and visa is approved as long as she gets her medical. now we are waiting for this and it will be roughly 45 days doctor said. this is a long story you can ask me if you want to know. once we have an approval on medical then we turn in to embassy and pay for visa

Mike,

Alexandra came through Orlando...I think her process took her no more than 30 minutes. That obviously can differ based on the number of people being processed. Alex said that she wasn't really asked many questions, she didn't feel interrogated. She gave them the envelope then had to go through fingerprinting and they input her info into the system. The only thing they told her more than once was the date she had to be married by and they welcomed her to the USA. Her entry was non eventful from a processing standpoint.

Hey Troy,

What's up? You mean Alexandra didn't open up the envelope before she got to the U.S. just to see what was in it? Ha!

Hope all is well...

Thank you all for sharing this information. I come through Miami every time i go to Colombia and the line for the US Citizens are fairly short (15 - 20min wait) but the foreign citizen line looks crazy at times..

I'll just explain to her that "We have been waiting for over 6 months so the wait of 2 - 5 hours at Immigration should be nothing"
