Diana,

I went to my interview yesterday with my fiancee and I was told I need to get a DAS certificate !!!!!

I am a US Citizen and born in USA.. What is this about? They said they needed to see my entry and exits from Colombia for the past 10 years. And to see if I was ever arrested in COLOMBIA.........

What kind of BS is this? So we were put into AP because of ME !!! Is this normal for a US citizen to have to go to DAS ?

ummm....what the hell?? That is really strange, and NO it is not normal for a US citizen to have to go to DAS unless you need to extend your tourist visa or get a cedula de extranjeria or something like that...but of course, this is not what you were doing. I do not understand that at all.

7/2/10- NOA1

2/9/11- NOA2 (transferred to Texas)

NVC

2/28/11- case number received

3/2/11- Paid AOS bill

3/17/11- received by Bogota, emailed consulate and was told to send DS-230 and DS-2100 (packet 3)

3/18/11- packet 3 emailed to Bogota consulate, email confirmation on March 23

Joe,

How's it going? I noticed in your timeline that Valeria is scheduled to arrive on July 3rd. Congratulations on scheduling a definite date for POE. I know it's been a long wait for you, but it will be worth all the waiting and frustration. My plan is for Carol to arrive on July 3rd also, but I haven't made definite plans yet.

Good luck,

Mark

Hey Mark,

Looks like July 3rd might be a good day! Valeria has a ticket (finally) for arrival at LAX that morning- I hope Carol makes it over here ok. I better bone up on POE- don't really knows what goes on at that step. I just hope that sealed packet stays sealed until then...

Hello Colombian Club

Iz back, in the process now for the oldest son that got left behind since he turned 18 a month before I married hubby. Still confused about the migratory thinghy verses the certificado judicail ( Yes I am da gringa here ).

Have paid the AOS fee for the IR visa ( I think that is what is is as an I-130 was filed ) now waiting for it to show paid to get the ball rollinng. This on line thing saves me like 60.00 of over night fees for sure :D

NArocks,

How goes it? I pray that the rest of the process goes smooth for the number one son!

sorry to hear that Drew, but your situation is not normal nor new, I've heard a couple times the same situation in Bogota, but is more usual when the petitioner is colombian naturalized American

would have to send a letter (it must be apostilled) authorizing his fiancee to get the certificate in any DAS office, more time and money

Panama Jack,

I've been stressing of trying to find out how I'm going to get DAS records in case they ask for them in our interview and want to know what prompted the interviewer to request this for you when its not written in the packets. I've got an interview in a few weeks and cant afford to travel back to Bogota for a second interview..

By chance do you have a criminal record I the USA or any other country, does your fiancee have a criminal record? Are there stamps on your passport from countries that are enemies of the USA?

Also the USCIS does a background check before the NOA2 so you should have been in the clear before the interview..

Lastly is there a different procedure for the USC to get the DAS police and immigration certificates?

I hope all goes well after you get these reports.

Every case is different...take for example someone has had previous ties to Colombia or a prior arrest record. Then they might want to see his travel record or if he has had any trouble in Colombia. If there are no "special" circumstances your situation will more than likely be status quo.

This is exactly why I had to go to DAS... To check my travel record in and out of Colombia and there have been only 4 times in the last 8 years and to see if I was ever arrested in Colombia.. I never had any problems in Colombia..

So the case is not in AP but visa is pending recipt of this report??

Unfortunately, it's up to the DAS official to either accept it or deny it. I've seen a couple of cases here where they were denied right before boarding because the permission slip was over a moth old. It's best to get a new one before take off just in case.

Diana

That was terrible to hear, but its reality. I spoke to my wife yesterday, she said the document is a public document and its good up until my son reaches 18 years of age. Thanks again for the heads up on this, last thing i want is to pay for another plane ticket because das denies the document.

A note for those that might be going over to the AOS side soon: We just received written notice from USCIS that Lorena and the boys need to apply for removal of conditions. What's unusual (to me, at least) is that all info I've read says that USCIS does not send out such a notice. Is this something new? Or, are we just special? ;-)

Im preparing to get documents ready for the IV package. I have some questions.

2) Im petitioning my son (stepson). According to the Dept of state and US embassy Bogota webpage it doesnt mention anything about it. My wife has already obtained a legal document signed by his biological father granting permission. Does this document have to be sumbitted to NVC?

Gracias!

Yes send an original to the NVC , make sure the letter states the child is given permission to immigrate to the US. Send this in when you do the DS-230. If not you will get an RFE and slow the process at the NVC level.

As far as the Permission to leave as Diana stated DAS will say if it is valid or notbetter to get a newer one when you have the dates of departure. . When the boys go back to COlombia to visit we go to the Embassy here in New York to get the document done and we are not allowed to do this document 60 days before the return trip. Even though we have had the tickets forever. So glad one is now 18 and does not need it

I've only seen two cases where the embassy requested the DAS certificate for the US citizen, so it's not very common. Maybe the CO felt that they needed to make sure the dates to and from Colombia match what you said during the interview, who knows.
