^If you keep doing that as a routine (in and out of the US for less than six months) they reserve the right to take your green card away..green card is a permanent resident card and if the immigration officer at the airport determines that you are not maintaining the residency here, they can take it away.. someone I know was once given a warning because she made several trips in and out of the US (all less than six months),since she wanted to continue to do so, she ended up giving the green card back and got the 10 year multiple visa just so she didn't lose that opportunity either.

Now if you want to stay out of the country for more than six months JUST ONCE, you can do it upto 11 months without requiring a re-entry permit.. if you want to stay more, you need a re-entry permit to entre back in the US and it takes about 30-60 days to ge that re-entry permit from USCIS. Is that recommended? NO

I was a green card holder when I wanted to go back to Pakistan and spend time with my husband.. according to USCIS website, I oculd stay out of the country for 11 months but the lawyer told me not to since it can raise red flags when I enter back here. He was so right, i came back after 5 months and 28 days and still went through hell of an immigration with a warning that i MUST be the PERMANENT RESIDENT of the US to keep that status and mind you I did it ONLY ONCE.. rest of my two annual trips were in a range of 15 days to 3 months.

in a nutshell.. contact the USCIS before you leave! make an info pass appt. to get everything right. :-)

Well, I had dh email them and see what is going on. I guess it may be pending his pick up at AMEX? Is that possible? I guess if they printed it no need to be worried. I am trying to relax and remain calm. I do not want to get my nerves up and be put back in the hospital. I been too sick already.....Anyway, as soon as I know something I will inform you so that if this kind of thing ever happens to any of you then you can reflect back on my experience. Good luck! Praying for all of you.

Congratsss!!!!

Yes as ur case is CR1,NVC will assign the interview date.NVC schedules interview on specific days...Many here said its 2nd week of the month. But me and many other members from another friends got interview at end of the month so I think interview scheduling varies and it also depends on how busy ur USEM is.You can only find this out by calling NVC every day. After NVC assigns ur interview they will ship ur file to ISL USEM.

Yes ur husband n u both will get ur interview appointment letter in email,if NVC has ur email addresses.Otherwise u will receive it in regular mail.

ok thanks for the information.

but yea i think they do it on random and depends on the immigration officer and its mood too and a lot of other factors like you stayed outside for no genuine convincing reason.

there is one old aunt she is on green card too she has been doing this for quiet a lot she told my parents she always return within 6 months and she never mentioned anything from immigration people at the port of entry and she intends to do it again.

and we met a sikh woman at a social security office she told us its alright because she knows many people who have done this before.

but in my case i just want to go back because i have no job and i have a scholarship and on almost free education and if i complete education here it will take me a couple of years atleast as compared to 10 months i need there due to a lot of complication in transferering credit hours and taking SAT and TOEFL.

is there anyone who knows how to inform or ask for permission from USCIS.i just intend to stay out of USA for 10 months.and only once not more than 10 months.

now you get a letter from NVC that encloses the interview date information.you and your hubby both get a letter for this.very soon like within a couple of months.did your hubby had its medical done yet?

Sweethearts, the important response is the response from the embassy in ISL... if he got the call request for him to submit his passport, you shouldn't overwhelm yourself sweety. The process is still pending until the embassy receives his passport. Once AMEX receives his passport, that is when you should call the DOS or call the AMEX that your husband submitted his passport to. If you know urdu, it's better because there will be good comprehension and communication, otherwise it will be hard to get a hold of someone who knows English at the AMEX in Pakistan.

you are right/

i recommend to not to check the box that says 'do you want an SSN be assigned automatically'.because it has been a month and we have not recieved it.so,when he arrives in USA go an office and get him registered there.

 I don't know what to think as I'm waiting patiently lol..

I committed the whole remaining of my day to read this whole thread and found it very useful. I want to thank everyone who had given regular updates, you have NO IDEA how much it helps us as well as the future VJers... thank you once again

Based on the posts that I read, some people contacted the DOS to follow up on their case (interview date)... has it been useful? If so, what is the number to the DOS, I want to keep everything together and organized before I have another panic attack
