So I have two options for flight plans that I am looking at. Here is the one I would like to take, but I am not sure if I have enough time. I will arrive in Chicago at 11:14am and the international flight leaves at 12:17pm. Do you think I have enough time to get aboard my international flight? I'll only have my carry-on with me.

If the plane is late no. If it is the same carrier though you may make it as they will sometimes hold planes. I don't think you have enough time at all but only the carry on luggage is a plus. The thousands of dollars for an international flight that is potentially non refundable is not something to be messed with.

We missed an international flight to Thailand from LAX because there was a rule (TSA?) that you had to be checked in at the international terminal no later than an hour prior to departure and we were five minutes late. We didn't have enough time between flights. Call the United and ask. You may be okay since you aren't changing carriers.

Yikes... I have good enough reasons now for me to just take the flight that leaves 2 hours earlier from STL. Thank you both. =)

If you are checked in at St. Louis, not sure if that is an international airport or not, but as an international passenger and as long as you stay in the secure zone at O'Hare and your plane arrives on time, shouldn't be a problem. But I like to look at the airport maps to learn how far it is from the arrival to the departure gate. You are leaving the USA, and normally not a problem to leave, it's coming back that there are always problems at the international airport here you arrive at. That can take over three hours if not standing in one long line only to have to stand in another long line. If you are flying this time of year, with the weather in Chicago, always problems and delays.

May note that everything today is done for the convenience of the airlines and the government and you get a pretty good idea of what cattle feel like. I would give it the extra time and even avoid a flight to O'Hare if at all possible.

I agree. I have connected in Chicago plenty of times with an hour or so layover. Especially outbound (with no customs, etc.), it is plenty of time. There is a good point made above about late flights though. I missed a flight to Frankfort/Minsk because my flight to Chicago was late. The Lufthansa pilot was not going to wait, and I had to go Warsaw/Munich/Minsk with an extra four hours added instead. Barring a late arrival at ORD, I think the itinerary is fine.

I have heard the same thing- Chicago is the worst.

I know whenever I book a flight, I always look for the layover with the most time. I would rather spend a few hours waiting around in an airport than having to worry and make a run for it to catch my next flight. Plus it gives me a chance to have a ciggie, get something to eat if I'm hungry, look around the shops they have.

Find out if you will have to switch terminals (you probably don't). If you do, you will have to get on the train that connects the terminals. I think it's cutting it close, if you have to change terminals. Looking at that flight number departing yesterday, it didn't leave until almost 1:00pm, but you never know if it WILL be on time.

Yes you have to change terminals.

All the international flights at Chicago go out of one terminal.

You have to get from your inbound domestic terminal to the international terminal.

One hour is not NEARLY enough time.

The alloted time given is 45 minutes for your bags to connect according to my system UA - UA International in ORD.

Check my advice on travel here http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Traveling_Tips

Is this a single ticket purchase or are you ticketing them separately?

Ha, on our last flight wanted to avoid O'Hare and found a connection in Toronto instead, was there in 2001, a very nice airport. Was okay going, but totally miserable coming back, had to haul our luggage seemingly miles after a very long wait, had a carton they wouldn't take, another long walk and wait, then immigration. Something where they added around 20 million square feet to that place. We had a four hour layover and barely made our next flight. Much prefer O'Hare over that, but the next time we travel, think we will walk and swim.

I have missed a flight at ORD in the past. Not only are you in danger of missing your flight, but there is little chance you will find the checked luggage at the destination. You need at least 2 hours :)

One thing you should know about express flights is they are a a great bargain however they are also often late, and over sold. Not to mention they have problems with hot, and cold weather. With that said you have been forewarned about possibly missing your connection.

Waldo,

I'll be buying this all at one time on United.com. Also, since I'm only bringing a carry-on, I won't have to worry about baggage transfers.

Looking on Wikipedia, it looks like my both of my flights should be in terminal 1 (from concourse C to B ) so it will be easy to get to my next flight.
