thinking about the c/s. i've been reading and they say i'll need an IV, hate that, it makes me gain 5 million pounds. i'll just cheat and regulate to stop coming lol

Nessa: I honestly thought that was the worst part of the c-section: fluid retention from all the fluids they give you. It took me two weeks for it to come back down. Ok..that was the worst part along with the surgical shave. I have sensitive skin and that was horrible.

It is called a drip chamber and is controlled by a rolling clamp.

Most likely though, your fluids will be controlled by an electronic pump.

Regardless of whether you have IV fluids or not, you will still have extra fluid weight to lose after having a baby. Your blood volume increases by 50% while pregnant. It will take a week or 2 to for your normal fluid balance to return.

Oh and for who asked about the umbilical cord, there are plenty of parents that ask for it to be saved. I personally had never heard of it before I started working in a nursery. I think it is a cultural / regional thing. I see more of it here in the northeast than I did in the southeast, where I was raised.

IVs are standard in any surgery, not for the IV itself but for the easy access to any medication they might need to give you since you'll already have a line in. That's the idea behind IV on any procedure.

@Chrissy: I have a hotsling and a MeiTai. Allie is not too crazy about the MeiTai, Adam loooooved it. She likes the sling though, but she's getting too heavy for it now. The wraps like the maya are usually for smaller babies because they strech too much. As baby gets heavier it gets harder to keep them snug in the wrap, since they are made out of a t-shirt like material. the sling (actually it's more like a pouch and easier than a ring sling AS LONG as you get the right fit) is made out of a thin jeans like material.

@Nessa: Don't worry about the water. If you have a LO to take care about you'll get all absorbed into that.

Ladies, any recommendations for a baby sling or wrap, i like the idea of a wrap and have seen a website called Sleepywrap.com that i like the look of ,any one with experiences?

Thanks for the links. I may try making a couple of these.

My sister gave me a little quilt she made, and she sent a couple yards of extra coordinating fabric. I'm thinking of making a fitted bassinet sheet with it. Should it be safe enough to sew elastic all the way around and leave plenty to wrap to the back so it won't pull off the corners? I've seen some that are more like pillowcases, so the baby can't pull the sheet off at all, but I don't know if that's really necessary.
