yeah the kitchen counter is the best idea, but charles don't want me to do that in there because our kitchen counter is made from this material that can't stay wet...

i've never seen that in brazil, our kitchen/bathroom counters in brazil are either made of this kind of metal that i dont know the name or marble. u can cook, make a mess and leave it wet for how long u want without damaging. but here i don't understand why they ude a material that kills the purpose of the counter use. i'd understadn if it was something to make it pretty, but it's ugly and useless.

i'll never experience labor pain (yeah, crazy, i know),

if you think you're going to miss it, just grab your lower lip - and pull it up over your head.

i'll never have to push and swear like a sailor for hours :lol:

like that never happens :whistle:

My counter hardly gets wet from the bath time...a tiny baby doesn't splash around. Ok well if it can't be the counter, then Charles will be doing bath time until you feel all better! :P Sujeet has helped me with bath time and every baby related issue that he could! Men need to help a lot, especially in the beginning. ;)

Babies don't sweat and they don't get dirty so there's no need to wash them. Their skin is so delicate anyway and all that is needed to clean them is water. We had to wash Adam almost every day though because the milk that he burped up ran into all those wrinkles cause he was so fat and started smelling cheesy on us after a while. Allie gets a bath once every week, other than that I just wipe her clean under her chin(s).

What my best friend did with her baby that actually worked out great is that instead of a baby tub she bought this tiny plastic pool tub, you know, the inflated kind, which was all round and soft and she'd set it on a towel on top of her bed, where she could sit with him comfortably. It was also great for storage spaces since she could deflated it if needed.

After he started enjoying his baths and was more firm he could lean at the edge of pool which would shape to his body instead of being hard plastic, and he loved it! She was really happy with the solution both for her and for the baby. Also, being on top of her bed she would give him morning baths with sun coming through the window in a more open space than in the bathroom, and not in the kitchen where some might find unsanitary.

I'll see if I she can send me a pic of his baths.

I never had the OMG....lets go to the hospital thing either. It's ok. There's such a big hype about bonding with baby and how you cannot bond when you have a C/S because your body doesn't make these hormones since you skip the whole labor part. Bonding is a lifelong process, it doesn't happen when you have a c/s or a vaginal birth. Now, I didn't 'care' for Adam in the beginning because I think I was kinda in shock after the birth and I had so much to do with recovering and trying to figure everything out. WIth Allie...she came out blue and not breathing for a while, her heartrate down for over 6 minutes and even though she was a vaginal birth...I didn't even ask how she was doing. She was there but I didn't know her, I didn't feel attached at that moment. It all happened later, once you get to hold them and feed them, that's when the real bonding starts.

I was excited when they told me that Allie will be born on August 11th (I had a repeat c/s scheduled) but it kinda wore off over the days and my OB cancelled the surgery.

aww I guess it's different for everyone. I wasn't planning on having a baby and I was kind of freaked out by the thought of being a "Mommy" throughout the pregnancy, but the second I first saw him was so overwhelming, it sounds weird but I did feel immediately connected to my baby. I was so surprised and overwhelmed by that feeling, hubby and I were crying for hours. :blush:

@bathtub: I gave him a bath when we came home, he still had his stump but he needed one. I don't like the idea of spongebathing much because it looks like the baby is always cold and after 9 months in the womb they probably prefer a nice tub full of warm water. As long as the umbilical cord stump isn't inflamed its ok according to my pediatrician.

We first set up the bathtub on the dresser in our bedroom and then switched to the kitchen counter. We bought a bigger plastic tub when he was 8 months old and it has worked out great. Ben loved taking baths from day one, we give him one every 2-3 days now.

I was so excited when my water broke and remained totally excited until labor started to hurt :jest: Then I was like argh hubbie out of my face :P When Jona came out, I was pretty exhausted, and my concern was Jona and that they don't do stuff we didn't want to. They handed him immediately to me on my chest. He looked at me and it was soooo cute. I bonded I think, as what they call it. He remained there until the cord stopped pulsating, DH cut it then and the nurse weighed him right next to me (under DH's supervision, we needed to make sure no eye ointment nor vitamin K shot were administered). She just wrapped him in a blanket as we did not want him to be bathed.

We gave him like a sponge bath when he was a couple days old, but we had him wrapped in a big towel and only exposed the places that needed to be washed. At exactly 10 days the cord fell off and we tried bathing, but he hates, still HATES it. He has the same thing as Adam, all the milk runs in his neck/chin folds and it smells funny, so I wipe it down once a day. But that was it basically. He bathes weekly now, DH does it. I wouldn't really do it. He gets better now that he is older, but still no fan of water there. I bought a rubber duckie, a rubber ship, but he doesn't care, he just wants out of that water, fast. Our baby tub was a waste of money I think, I wouldn't buy one again!

Oh Charles :lol::lol:

@Chnst: I guess everybody feels differently. I loved my kids from the moment they were born but I always needed some time to get to know them. After a few hours with Allie and about 1 week with Adam I totally bonded and didn't want to let them go but I always had to adjust to it first. Now...I can't even think of them not being there. What did I do with all that free time before I had kids?
