Nessa - the one thing I didnt do with my C-section that in talking to others later I really wish I HAD done is to get up and out of bed as soon as they will let you. It hurts like sh** the first couple of days so what i did for 24 hours is just to lay there as long as they would let me. Other moms (including a couple of repeat c-sectioners) have said that even though its awful, if you can just force yourself to get up as soon as the docs/nurses give you the ok then by day 2 you will be feeling significantly better.

Definetely get up asap. I had to get up...the nurses wouldn't let my lay there no more. As soon as the catheter was out, they made me get up. DH gave me a w*ore bath since I couldn't bend down but I was swollen everywhere from the pushing I had done before the surgery. I think a planned c/s is a little easier to recover from. No heavy lifting (nothing heavier than baby), no driving etc. and your milk might come in a little later (with Adam it came in after 5 days). You will be fine. April 13th it is...I'm excited.

@Staashi: Good luck on the 30th. I hope the cervidil works right away and I'm wishing you a smooth, short, easy labor.

@Missbollinger: How is it going?

You can but buy a small can. I'd try to feed baby anyway. The more often you put him on, the more your breasts are going to be simulated, giving news to your brain to make milk. Your body is making colostrum, which is enough for baby in the first days, even though it seems like it's not very much.

Wow Nessa - congrats on the date .... sounds like you are making the right decision for you and your little boy :)

Good luck Staashi - can't wait to see pics of your little one at the end of the month!

About getting pregnant - I went off the pill and then conceived Declan 4 months later. I had thought that it might take awhile, but it was quicker than I expected.

Declan is still sick, not really sleeping. Hubby and I have been trading off getting up during the night. I was up until 4 am last night. I have been dying at work and saying the stupidest things that make no sense at all because I am so brain dead, which is really bad when you are a psychotherapist.

Nessa, for now don't buy any formula. Typically, the hospitals will hook you up with a few cans should you need it.

I'm doing the induction at 39 instead of 38 weeks. My doc had said yesterday that he wanted to do an amniocentesis on Friday - I am totally against doing one right now, and so is the neonatalogist - he doesn't see the point anymore. So, I'm going to be induced 5 days later when they're sure the baby's lungs will be good to go. Hopefully, I also should be somewhat dilated by then and not have to worry about a long wait to open.

We'll see.

@Nessa: wow I can't believe how soon you will be a mommy! :)

I had my pelvis broken when Ben was born and it was the most painful experience of my life (giving birth was nothing compared to that). I wasn't able to hold my baby for weeks let alone take care of him by myself. My doctor suggested a c-section at 37 weeks with the next baby to prevent the pelvic bones to seperate and there might be a chance that I have to be in a wheelchair once the fetus is big enough to put pressure on the pelvis.

If I have another baby, I wouldn't take any chances and do a c-section.

As for the formula- I think most hospitals provide you with a case. Mine gave me a enfamil diaper bag with a case of ready-to-feed formula bottles + nipples. I'm breastfeeding, but I gave Ben some formula on the second and third day when he had jaundice and wasn't nursing at all. The jaundice had made him too sleepy and weak to nurse. Breastfed Babies need only VERY little milk in the first days. I supplemented two feedings and after that he was more alert and my milk came in.

Some women who had c-sections have trouble with breastfeeding because it takes longer for their milk to come in (its a hormonal thing), but hospitals have formula and they will feed your baby if he is getting dehydrated. Generally I would try to go with as little formula as possible. I just made myself get rid of the remaining formula bottles from the hospital ( I am so attached to everything from when Ben was born! :P )

Wow Nessa, some news! Having a date is awesome for sure! Not a mom and not preggers but I agree on the suggestion to try and get up and move asap after it, from watching my best friend (who's a big whiner over everything) she toughed it up and was up in the next day (she also didn't have health insurance so she went public, so you know they kick you out asap to open a bed for other people). She said it hurt like hell but 2 days later she was able to move around the house easily and in 4 days she drove herself to the bank to pay some bills.

lol to being attached. I swear I save everything.

Nessa, you can go to Enfamil.com or similac.com and register and they will send you some sample cans of formula and monthly coupons. Just in case something happens and you have to supplement, you will have it.

At trying to conceive. Well, every type of birth control ive taken, Femcon, Orthotricyclin, and Loestrin have all given me some sort of goofy side effect so after Sofyan and I married in 05 i just stayed off the pill and we prevented pregnancy using the ol fashion way (tmi i know lol) we never used contraceptives or anything. the first time we said we should not try the old fashion way, i was pregnant. Zaid was conceived on our 2 year weding anniversary lol!!
