well, what bugged me the most was having family members call every day and ask if he was here...

"umm, yeah. I had a him a few days ago and just decided not to tell anyone..." and my mom would say, "well, I just am so excited, I cant wait!" to which my reply was, look, NO ONE is more anxious to have this pregnancy over than me!

3 or 4 weeks overdue, that must be really tiring! I hope that none of the soon-to-be moms here will have to go through this.

I guess for the gender it makes things easier to know if it's a girl or a boy. I just find it weird that almost no-one wants it to be a surprise anymore. or maybe i'm just not around the right people :P everyone around me says that they would want to know the gender if they were pregnant.

I intuitively knew I was pregnant with twins before the first ultrasound. However, I was wrong about the sexes. I swore it was going to be 2 boys. I think I was trying to prepare myself for the worst...because I could not imagine have two toddler boys running around....aye aye aye. As it turns out, we ended up with a boy and a girl. My husband wanted two boys, but we both agreed having one of each is the best - we won't be tempted to have more to try to get a missing "sex".

I can't believe how close some of you are to the big day! I can't wait to see the pics! At work, 3 babies were born to teachers in the last week alone! We have had a real baby boom this year. Including my two, there will be a total of 8 babies born to faculty members. We swear there is something in the water.

Hana and Zak went for their 2 month appointment today. Hana is now 9 pounds 11 oz and 21.5 in long. Zak is 9 pounds 7 oz and 22 in long. They both have gained just about 3 pounds in a month! Unfortunately, double trouble received 5 innoculations and 1 oral vaccine. They are not happy campers this afternoon.

how does inducing work? if the baby is overdue, is that a decision your doctor makes after a while, or can u decide to evict the baby?

I've heard of women choosing to induce on December 31st so they'll get the tax deduction

Or maybe that's just an urban legend.

Anyone on the lookout for news on FMLA changes that may affect us? The Obama administration is supposed to improve FMLA, which would be a good thing. I will post if I hear anything that may significantly affect maternity leave, but if anyone else hears anything, please share :)

Saludos,

Caro

I could have sworn that I posted here earlier but it doesn't show.

I was writing about indcution. Sara pretty much said it all. I just wanted to add - and I'm not trying to be a party pooper again - that induction often ends up in a c/s since labor is pressured and moms body is usually not ready for labor. It happened to me too (and I wish I would have known about the downside of induction before I went in to have it done). I had the Cervadil, Adam's heartrate went down to 90bpm (normal is 120bpm - 140 bpm) and they had to put me on Pit. Once you are on Pit you can't eat anymore (in case you have to have a c/s and you might throw up...so they assume that you might end up in a c/s once they give you the pit), you might not be allowed to get up anymore (I had to BEG the nurse to let me stand up because I couldn't lay down no more) and contractions hit you so much harder, putting more stress on the baby. A lot of times you end up with stalled labor (often happens whit Pit and then an epidural) and eventually you are wheeled into the OR.

BUUUUUUUUUT

I've read stories of successful inductions, where only one dose of cervadil was given and the cervix was so ripe and squishy after 12 hours that the baby wanted out. So it doesn't necessarily end in a c/s.

Whatever you decide to do, don't agree on taking anything that is called cytotec...too dangerous. There have been stories of placental abruptions out there...it scares the living hell out of me hearing that it is used by doctors even though it is not even approved for use in pregnant women. http://www.lawyersandsettlements.com/features/cytotec.html

4 weeks overdue???no way!!!that's a little bit too much, I'll go crazy, I'm going crazy right now.....

In the begining I didn't want to know the sex of the baby but after a few days I decided that I definitely wanted to know. I had a feeling that is was a girl and I'm so happy with it, hubby was a little  in the begining but now he is super in love with his girl.

tnh9479@ we want to see pics of your little ones! 2 months already??? Wow!!

@Vi: Not long before you can welcome your little girl. I'm so excited for all of you girls. It's gonna be raining babies the next 8 weeks.

Another thing about induction. With Allie I was induced too. I was on a low dose of pitocin...low because I was VBACing and you don't want strong contractions with a uterine scar because it might tear. Anyway. I was on pit for about one hour and then my waters were broken. That labor was more intense (since I didn't have pain relief) but a lot shorter, because my body was more ready. I was already 6cm dilated and 80% effaced, so basically in full blown active labor without contractions. (I'm sure some of you remember the drama :lol: . Allie had us all on pins and needles)

Hey, I never said that I'll be leaving. :D .

@Chnst: Why did they say for you to switch to 2%? I always thought babies should stick with whole milk as they need the fat for brain growth. My pedi told me to stick with whole milk until his 2nd birthday. I'm now buying 2% every now and then but I still prefer whole milk. Adam was about 11 months I think when we started him on milk at all.

He said that this was a new thing, since babies get enough fat elsewhere and kids who are raised completely dairy free still get their nutrients ayway. I guess doctors are concerned with obesity rates sooner than later nowadays... I was surprised he would suggest milk so early, but it is not an option for us because its too constipating for Ben.

@Kelly: at the 10 month check up our pedi gave the green light for 2% cows milk and yogurts. Ben doesn't like milk much and he is so constipated now, that we have to go in for a weekly enema now. :(

Earths best baby food has a prune and oatmeal cereal that REALLY does the trick too :P

trust me, he is eating a jar of that stuff every single day, washing it down with prune juice but it does NOT work. Ben hasn't had a bm for 4 weeks because he is scared to poop. It gets so hard that his ####### bleeds everytime we "help" him with a qtip. It is heartbreaking to see him like this. I have no idea what to feed him anymore because everything is constipating, even breastmilk. He had this problem since he was born and it has gotten a lot worse over the past weeks. His doctor told us to give him mineral oil and stool softeners and it didn't work. We have a referral to see a gastroenterologist in NYC in a few weeks, because our pediatrician thinks its Hirschprungs disease.

@autum: wow, that would definitely bother me too! After all, you really need to trust these people. I would definitely discuss this with them and stress that you want him to drink formula.

About the milk: I get the ok from the pediatrician, but in general it is ok after 12 months.
