i learned a new word today: jaundice :P

Me too Nessa! Jaundice = icterícia.

And yes, I realize I'm not pregnant or ever been and following this thread, I just like reading all your stories and following your pregnancies (and feel a little jealous).

I can definitly relate to all of you wishing your babies were here :) Pregnancy seems to draag at the end. I dont know if anyone else went thru this but for me delivering zaid, was very bittersweet. I missed the kicks and simply knowing he was inside of me. I was sad for many many weeks.

I advise you to take the next few weeks and do everything you possibly can, dine out, shop, take a road trip, bc honestly your world will flip flop when that little one is here, and even tho its a good flip flop, those lil trips to the store, or dinner dates on the weekends become tasks, and thats if you do manage to get out of the house.

Good luck to everyone rounding their last few weeks of being preggo!

We went out of town two weeks ago. It was great, but yeah the little one is about to rock our world.

question: did you or will you wash all the baby stuff? i've been reading on the pregnancy board most of the women are washing everything the baby will get in contact, i mean everything, all the clothing, bedding, toys, car seats, stroller, pillow, everything. i think it's a bit exaggerated. i was going to do only the bedding and clothing.

@ Staashi: I hope everything goes well! I had preterm labor starting at 28 weeks, was on meds and after 35 weeks the obgyn refused to refill the rx and said it's ok for the baby to come. I strongly disagreed, but he wouldn't refill it. My sister had the same issue, but in Europe the obgyn gave her meds up to 38 weeks to stop labor. She made it to 40 weeks plus 2 days before her water broke. Next time, my sister (she's a MD) will write me a rx for the stuff and I will keep it handy. A pregnancy should continue as long as possible as long as mother and baby are doing well so baby cooks as long as possible. If there are conditions it's different of cause, but in my case - both Jona and I were fine, it was too bad that the doc wouldn't give us the stuff and instead wanted to talk induction for no apparent reason other than his convenience. I'm glad I ended up with a midwife.

@ Nessa: I washed all clothes twice. They contain formaldehyde and it washes out, so you do want to wash it. I didn't wash the stroller, but all blankets, plush toys in the washer with a free and clear detergent (7th generation). I washed all toys in plain water and let them air dry. I don't do Clorox at all. If a toy falls on the floor I rinse it and fine. A bit of germs is necessary to develop a healthy immune system. Formaldehyde though you don't want. ALso, people touched the baby clothes in the store and I don't feel happy about that... I always wash all clothes before I wear them too. People might have tried them on and sweat on them, grosssssssss.

@ Eveline - Don't feel bad...you're just a very fortunate woman who was able to carry two babies to term. WTG!

I don't feel bad. I was generally speaking. I didn't take pre-e, diabetis, fetal growth retardation etc into consideration. Of course those are circumstances requiring special attention. I feel like I'm always tiptoeing around here. I try to give advice and there is one pregnant lady for sure saying "Yeah but....". Whatever. I'm wishing all of you a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby in the end. Good luck.

I did wash everything twice also, clothes, towels, blankets, sheets, etc. I also washed the cover for our swing and bouncer. I am not too fond of bleach either. I wash all zaids toys once a week in warm dish water and let them air dry. Knock on wood he has only been sick 2 times so far.

Staashi, thats good you guys were able to get out of town for a while. Sofyan and I were both working and working and got so caught up with everything that by the time I took off work to have the baby there was no time for anything, I wish we could have had a little get away pre-baby, things just didnt turn out that way.

Those moms with toddlers, when and how did you start giving cows milk in place of formula or breast? Zaid is 10 and a half months and were getting close to the end of formula here. I know I wanna talk it over with the ped first but I rarely listen to everything they say and was just looking for some insight. We will be taking away the bottle too (which im not expecting any problems bc he doesnt like the bottle anyways) Im just curious as to how much milk he should be drinking a day and what not. Also if we should do 1/2 and 1/2 for awhile to make sure he has no intolerance to cows milk

we gave Dylan whole milk on his first birthday, its best to continue formula till then as it has all the nutrients plus extra calories they need, when you switch to whole milk you lose some of the important nutrients. with Dylan on his birthday went cold turkey just gave him whole milk instead of formula, no half and half. if your child does not have a sensitive stomach i think its fine to just switch, plus we just gave him the milk in a cup and threw his bottles away...no problems

@Kelly: at the 10 month check up our pedi gave the green light for 2% cows milk and yogurts. Ben doesn't like milk much and he is so constipated now, that we have to go in for a weekly enema now. :(

I think pre-washing clothes and bedding is good, but plush toys? Let them start building an immune system. And how come you say it all has formaldehyde? Is it in toxic quantities? Is it always? Just asking 'cus I never heard it.
