@ Vi -- I still have five months to go, and I'm already worrying about how I'll possibly be able to meet all of the baby's needs, let alone wants. Like Nessa said, it must be normal, especially for first-timers. When I have trouble falling asleep because my mind is worrying about the what-ifs, I imagine myself breaking the tasks down into manageable pieces and also asking for help from others, which I might not do most of the time. Sometimes playing a scenario out successfully in my mind makes it less scary. Also, when you play it out in advance, you can think of things you may need to have on hand that you don't yet have that will make things run more smoothly after the baby arrives.

You'll be a wonderful mom. Look at everything you've already done for Sofia (the prenatal care, all the planning and love and attachment) and she isn't even out in the world yet. Trust yourself.

As for PPD, I'm going to have my sister tell me bluntly if she thinks I need some tweaking in the chemical department after the baby arrives, and I know she'll do that. I'll try to be aware of how I'm feeling also. But Plan A is to think positive thoughts and take everything step by step, and if I need a break, to recruit someone to give me one!

I'm the USC.

not at all Nessa, it can happen to anyone. Trust me, i had been dreaming of having my baby was so happy and excited. when he was born he had colic and cried constantly, its draining and hard on your emotions. You honestly feel like your in a black hole and cant get out. This was NOT how i wanted to feel, i had dreamed of my baby and all i wanted to do was cry. I couldent breastfeed, so beat myself up over that, turned out he had colic as his formula was too heavy, so we switched and within a couple of weeks he was a different baby, it was like the sun broke out the clouds and i started to feel better. I love my son and i didnt like been down when he was born, but you honestly cant help it.

We weren't sure we'd be able to have a baby and were just about to start fertility treatments when I got pregnant. I dream and daydream about the baby and some days can hardly concentrate on work. I can't remember ever anticipating anything with this kind of joy. But with such a huge change in lifestyle and responsibilities, plus lack of sleep in the beginning, it's just not going to be paradise every second. I'm optimistic that actual PPD won't show up, but I just want to be prepared and know what to look for in case I do get bogged down so I can take action early.

I had the baby blues for the first few weeks after I gave birth. I was really frustrated with feeling that way, because we had planned for our son and wanted him so much. It really is something out of your control. I was concerned about PPD, so I asked my husband and friends to keep an eye out for signs. The baby blues usually lasts no longer than a few weeks after the birth whereas PPD can last longer and develop anytime within the first year.

@ Nessa: I can PM you my birth plan later, but it depends on what you plan. It was for a natural birth with instructions what not to do with our son (no to all interventions there). I would put the most important things there, like if you want an IV or not, if you want pain relief or not, episiotomy yes/no, intermittent or constant monitoring, free to eat and drink, breaking water yes/no, if you want to be able to move around as you please... It all sounds very basic, but most hospitals have routine procedures (which means you do NOT have to do it, it's just their routine) and if you do want to do it differently, I would put it in the birth plan.

Argh it was such a long ride from the Central Coast up to the Bay Area. My niece turns 2 today and we had to come. Jona did fine and slept 2:45h,all the way from Santa Maria to Gilroy! We then stopped at Ikea Palo Alto and bought baby stuff: chairs, decoration, bedding, an abacus.

We offered JOna some organic banana and he ate some back at home, but I really don't think he is interested in solids yet. My MIL tried yesterday with a tiny bit and she saw his reaction and agrees. So I guess he needs a couple more teeth before he can eat ;) ... I guess nursing is enough for now.
