Congrats Anya!

Hope Zak and Declan feel better soon (F)

I'm joining the sick babies club. Sebas has had a bad cough for over 7 days and started vomiting...so he might have whooping cough (pertusis). We have to wait for the swab results which take several days. He also has a secondary double ear infection. Thank God he's got the vaccination so if it is pertusis it will be a much milder infection (pertusis can be fatal in infants)

Saludos,

Caro

I have been giving Zak Motrin too. The ped said it works better for higher temps (and I hate tylenol...it has screwed up me in the past). Even with that, he woke up with 103 temp this morning. I wouldn't worry so much if he showed other signs of being sick or was remotely himself. :(

Twila: I think you are safe, his temps hover around the same mark and isn't raising over 104. I would just make sure to give him plenty of fluids, vitamins a,c and d (they really help me too when I feel sick). The only thing that I gave Jona when he ran his 103 fever (that's when I had piggy flu) was homeopathic belladonna. It's a fever reducer without side effect (worst case it doesn't work, that's a bout the worst side effect). His fever went away completely after a couple hours. He never showed any symptoms but fever and sleepiness with lots of nursing.

@ Caro: I hope he feels better soon. I don't think it's WP cause you would hear the classic whooping sound... And ear infections aren't typical with it, so my guess is evil other bacteria. But let us know what the swab says. I hope he feels better soon, and I would do the vitamin supplementation (there is liquid stuff for babies) and since you nurse, you can take larger doses of those vitamins as well, they will be in your milk.

Twila: wow poor little guy... Temperatures like this are common for small kids, but i am more worried about his lack of urine output. Did he pee yet? Is he drinking fluids? It sounds like it could be a UTI (explains the high temp) . then I'd be careful with the motrin and rather use tylenol or alternative methods to reduce fever. Motrin is metabolized by the kidneys and if he has a UTI I'd use it sparingly. just my 2 cents. :P Hope he is getting better! (F) Love the 1 year old pictures of the twins! They are sooo big!

Caro: aww, hope it's not whooping cough. I've seen it a couple of times in hospitalized babies and they were all fine after a few days. Hope he will get better soon! Ben has problems with respiratory infections and he vomits often after coughing. It's so hard to see them like this isn't it?

Happy Birthday Kavi!!

Well...I took Zak to get his blood drawn and to get his urine analyzed that I managed to collect last night. (My mom was laughing at me because when I was pregnant I had to do 24 hour urine tests and store them in the refrigerator. Now I am storing Zak's!) I have not been more frustrated or pissed than I was at LabCorp this morning. I had the ped's office call them because they refused to follow the doctor's order and process the labs stat. The ped's office calls me back and says the LabCorp regional office would like me to call to document what happened. So...I call. I tell them I think it is ridiculous I had to wait 1.5 hours for a blood draw on a sick 12 month old. Once they pulled us in the lab doors, while we waiting for the blood draw, some of the employees where dropping f-bombs about another employee. When the person was getting ready to draw Zak's blood, I told her my ped's office wanted to make sure some of the tests were stat. She told me because only one could be stat, it was office policy not to do any stat. My ped's office was FURIOUS. Only one test was unable to be done stat and the other four should be ok. They called the regional office and it was supposed to be done. So when I was talking to the same woman and she pulled up Zak's orders, it still wasn't that way. She had me stay on the phone while she called up the local office and spoke to the supervisor in charge and had them go pull his labs and input them to be couriered off immediately. All I can say, I am flipping tired. Zak is acting worse today than yesterday. At least he played a little and ate a little yesterday morning. All I can get him to do is drink today. No other symptoms. :(

Good post from someonethat understands eand works in the field...I dont think readng 10 thousand books about babies makes anyone an expert to come here and say what is safe or not in a situation like ZAKS...Sorry,I just get annoyed sometimes by people that think they know everything ....

Hope Zak Sebas and Declan feel better soon.

Jenn. First sicknesses are scary but unfortunately it seems like the first time they get sick, it never ends! You kinda just get use to it lol.. I am super paranoid all the time tho ever since Zaid had h1n1 but thankfully he hasnt had a fever in almost 3 months.

Staash. Those first few teeth are a breeze! lol...Wait til the incisors start coming in! Good luck with E, hope he feels better soon.

Anna, thats a shame about military insurance. My insurance covers everything thankfully, but I pay a darn arm and leg for it. For hubby me and zaid, medical and dental its about 325$ a month, could be worse, but still sucks paying for it.

Zaid is chowing down on the hardest peach you could ever imagine! His appetite is so funny these days and it seems all he wants is fruit. He is SO done with bananas though. He loves peaches, apples, and clementines but im sure that will change bc last month it was strawberries and cherries.

Does anyone have any good advice on "meals" i could prepare for zaid that would last a few days. With Zaids allergies we have a hard time giving him everything we eat and the few gerber meals I do buy a week are getting expensive and annoying lol.

Well...Zak's blood counts and quick urine analysis came back ok. The ped thinks he has roseola because of his consistent high temps (was 103 two times at home today and 102.5 at the peds after a dose of tylenol 2 hours before). She said the only way we will know for sure is when his fever breaks and if he comes out with a rash. Since he looked worse than yesterday, she wanted to give him a shot of antibiotics to be on the safe side (because the bacterial cultures of his blood and urine will not be back until tomorrow). He has been a miserable guy today and mom is EXHAUSTED.
