So mommies.

With all the overwhelming amounts of toys from the holidays I have spent 4 days trying to find a storage type thing for a decent price. Today, after some advice from my brother.....I went to Aldi Grocery Store (the off brand grcoery store) and they had the 12 bin primary color storage organizers for 29$. They had them in pastel purple and pinks too. I grabbed one, brought it home and had it together in 5 mins, and filled the bins. We got 1.5 of Zaids 2 toyboxes in them and it has increased the space x10. I will go buy another one as soon as hubby gets home. Zaid loves the fact that he can now see each and everyone of his toys in each bin rather than shoved in a toybox. It was by far one of the best buys I have got in a long time.

Caro@ We went on Saturday to start the passport process, we pais $60 to get in in 2 weeks, as soon as I get it I will be going to Peru.

I got the double pump, it's great, Silvio just takes the baby to the other room and I can be relaxing and pumping my milk. Sofia doesn't like the bottle but she so into the zippy cup, it's funny, it's like her new fav toy. I've been pumping at night and mixing it with rice cereal and is working very good. My Doc told me that I can continue bf and the baby loves it.

About the teeth, she got the first two when she was 4 months and my poor thing was in pain, her sleep pattern changed, was a disaster. Now she has 8 teeth but we have a feeling thta there are more coming very soon.

My initial goal was 12 months, as recommended by the AAP, but then I read the WHO recommends 24 months and I read about it and it made sense.

Good for you! but I don't think that would work for us. But maybe who knows...when I started nursing, I thought "I'll give it a try and if I hate it, then we'll do formula". I didn't hate it. Then the first week's soreness kicked in, and I said "6 weeks and that's it!". But then it got easier and the soreness went away, and I thought "well, 3 months...then we start weaning". Now I'm thinking 6 months and hubby agrees. But we'll see. :)

That all sounds great Vi!!

Enfamil has these ready to feed formula in glass bottles...can those contain bpa? no, right?

Glass shouldn't contain BPA, it's only used as a lining in plastic and metal cans. But why don't you just email Enfamil and ask for a straight answer? I'm sure they have a hotline also!

I'm surprised about my nursing relationship! Two years ago I thought SIL is nuts for wanting to nurse for 2 years... I seriously thought she was kidding, it was the most absurd thing I had ever heard... But then again, like I said, I never saw any mom nursing a kid before in my family. Everyone was bottlefed, and the kids that nursed did it for very little time, so it was a foreign thing to me. But babies change your life in a way I had never anticipated. I can't even watch news about children being hurt let alone a movie when someone wants to do harm to kids! I have become such a softie.

Anna: Same here. I wanted to nurse until teeth came in or at least six months. Now Allie's 16 months and still nursing, not much anymore but at least three times a day, especially during naptimes.

@Vi: Did you apply for the US Passport? We usually got ours within 10 days without the expedite service. Good luck...hope it'll arrive soon.

As for christmas presents. I think I had mentioned before that I just feel like toys are not appreciated and so we didn't plan on getting the kids anything but then my mom said that she didn't buy anything either (she didn't know what to get) so I went and got Allie a little fisher price toy that sings German songs and for Adam I got him another train for his THOMAS collection. At least these trains he doesn't throw around and actually plays with. Other than that my brother gave him a dinosaur which is still the greatest thing on earth for Adam and Allie got a little doll. That's it though. The kids still had a blast.

I believe that my MIL bought the kids one of those battery operated cars. I hope she didn't but she mentioned it before. I don't like those things and I guess if she did get one (I hope it's just ONE not one for each kid..OMG) we just leave it at her house since she has a looong driveway. I'm still hoping for a play kitchen though haha.

Declan got a play kitchen and LOVES it ..... he also got a spring rocking horse from grandma (terrifying because it is so high, definitely a constant supervision item). The other day, he was filling up a pitcher of water from his play kitchen sink and then giving it to his horse. It was the cutest thing!

I think for a child who was never breastfed, imagining them being 15+ months old and still breastfeeding is unimaginable. Zaid hasnt seen boobs or known them as a "food supply" so for him, they are funny, and he knows that it is a shame to show people them. He even says "boobs" "butt" "doodle" etc. He is aware of what parts of his body and mine arent meant to be shared :) For a child who has been breastfed since birth, it is different, they dont think of it in those terms. I guess it always baffled me that a toddler could still be breastfed until i thought about it in that way.

LOL Im glad I cleared that up for myself in a paragraph :)

Karen,

Sof doesnt want me to buy Zaid a kitchen, I thought he would love it too bc he asks me everyday if we can do dishes. Hubby is all about Zaid being a "boy" whatever the hell that means

Thats cute that Declan was giving the horse water. Its funny how they understand so much now. When my sis was in town Zaid pulled a diaper, wipes, and butt paste out of my sisters diaper bag, sat down next to the baby and said "Ro-Ro poo poo" (my sisters baby is named Rowan) it was adorable!

We want a play kitchen too. DH was first like oh that's girly, but then he realized that's not the case. I was like hey, all the top chefs are men! Learning food and pretend cooking might contribute to healthy eating and a healthy relationship to food I think. I was in daycare from 12 months to school, and I remember all of us played together with the play kitchen and pretend supermarket. That's another thing I will get eventually, when he's older, and it's also gonna be one of those toys that belongs to all children (we'll have more!)... I remember it being so much fun.

Jona didn't really get many presents, he got books, an activity cube and a tricycle. We will get him something when he needs it, but now I just couldn't think of anything. We will buy a playground for the garden in spring, so we sort of regard that as Xmas present (all toys mentioned above were bought by grandparents!). He likes being outside, even in the snow now. So a playground and sandbox will be nice for him :)

I have a bunch of questions this morning:

1-how long does it take a baby to cut his first tooth? Sebas has been fuzzy, drooling, biting, tugging at his ear for over a week now. I definitely think he's teething, but it seems to be taking forever. Is this normal? - Ben took over 2 weeks i think.

2-He doesn't seem very interested in rolling over, but while laying on his back he pushes up (like if he was doing a sit up) trying to what I think is sit up. Is this normal too? how can I help him? - Ben used to do the same, but he wasnt's strong enough to sit like that. he only sits after being on his belly. what i used to do was sit in front of him and grab his hands and let him pull himself up to a sitting position.

3- He is sticking out his tongue and curling it, does this have to do with teething or why does he do that?

and last

4- Did they ever do away with BPA in formula cans? anybody know of any developments on this issue?

no idea the last 2.

Ben now goes from sitting to his knees while he holds on to something, like he wants to stand up. he stands up if i pull him and if i put him holding something standing up he stays like that for a while. i wonder how much longer for him to start walking.

@everybody: when did your babies start walking?

Caro,

Zaids teeth took 2-3 weeks to pop thru. He is a slooooow teether. Curling the lip and tongue is most likely due to the teething, if not, he is just having fun :)

I know nothing about BPA. I try not to look into things too much. I know that my mom and dad raised 5 kids without the worry of plastic/bf/formula/solids/lead/BPA/organic/ vaccines/ etc and we are all compeltely healthy so I try not to think too much about all that. Ive gone with my gut for everything the past 20 months (holy cow Zaid is 20m old today) and I have a extremely healthy extremely intelligent baby boy. So far So good :)

I would just email enfamil and ask

Zaid started pulling up at 9mos. He starting cruising furniture at 9.5 and walking at 11.

Thanks Nessa and Zaidsmommy :) OMG 3 weeks...:help:

@Staashi: pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I called enfamil. They said their cans of powdered formula no longer have BPA as of August 2009. Single serving packets and glass ready to feed bottles don't have BPA either. The ones that do have BPA are the ready to feed formula in a can (they are working with a Canadian company to find a replacement and all that). But, good to know which are safe and which to avoid :)

My tiny love smiling
