Mommies&Mommies-to-be: did you start your prenatal vitamins before you got pregnant? This is the first time that we are actually trying to have a baby and i think it is recommended.... Does it make sense to start early with the folic acid?

Stef - I was taking prenatals for more than a year because of major surgery and blood loss, so, when I got pregnant my body was FORTIFIED!!! Even after my pregnancy, I still take one every day. My hair and nails look fantastic. Even though we're not going to have any more children I'll gladly take one daily. I just use Target's store brand ($6.99 for 200) and they are awesome. :star:

Have fun trying!!!!

I also take 3 grams of fish oil a day - for my own health and I knew that it would help out Enzo alot. I knew that it would do amazing things for brain development and oddly enough, he seems like a pretty sharp kid. :D

I also took the Target prenatals and loved them. I never once was naseous or sick or anything.

Stef, Ya I guess I got lucky with Zaid not liking sweets. Yesterday we had xmas with my moms side and my mom makes this AMAZING pie thats all cream cheese/blueberries/graham crust/etc and Zaid nearly vomited when I put some in his mouth. He is a goof. I always give him 2 choices per meal and this morning he chose bananas and strawberries over pancakes :) Guess I should be happy I have a nice healthy kid.

Nizzy, Chocolate milk is the exception here too. Zaid enjoys it once and a while.

Zaid is doing this new thing where when he says "no" or doesnt like something he squints his eyes and makes a silly face. Ill have to get him on cam doing it, he looks so funny

Same here. I think actually having more iron was good for me and I didn't get sick from the vitamins. Being pregnant and taking the vits actually seemed to improve my digestive system hehe. I sometimes have tummy issues and while pregnant I hardly had any.

prenatals...I didn't start them until we found out we were pregnant (4 wks) and then I tried the ones with the dha capsules but they made me so sick...So I started taking Flintstones vitamins until I got over the morning sickness...but then I never changed so I ended up taking Flintstones vitamins all through the pregnancy  They taste good though :D

Saludos,

Caro

Me, three. I was never sick from the Target prenatals. I always took mine at night so that I would sleep while they were digesting. Worked for me. :) I also think having good iron levels isn't just crucial for pregnancy but life/mommy life in general.

Hi, Vi Mazzella - I've read a couple of times you mention your baby won't sleep through the night but I can't read through all these million pages.

Can you give me an outline of what your evening routine is like? I'd like to help because I believe quality sleep is the foundation of good health and I feel bad for anyone who doesn't get a good night's rest.

We were finally able to train our baby to sleep through the night at around five months.

Sorry your baby doesn't sleep well. =(

sorry to hear that, vi.

i found out i was pregnant 5 days after i missed my period cuz my period was always 30 days, so i knew something was up.

during this 3 weeks of being pregnant i was on a very no-no controlled prescription substance that i stopped as soon as i found out i was preggo. i had already quit smoking and i hadn't had any alcohol for weeks. i started on prenatal vitamins i get for free here on base and i bought at GNC DHA that i had discount with my gold card, both i kept taking while breastfeeding.

food, i cooked with raw eggs a few times. had blue cheese often, no sushi, don't care about it. quit tuna, which i used to eat every week. quit caffeine thinking it would be only for the first trimester but then i got so used to not have anything in the morning, being nauseous and all and to drink water instead of that bottle of coke 0 i'd drink every day at work that until today i don't have them anymore. no alchool, not even a sip.

i don't know what to do with Ben's hair. he looks like a punk, or a porcupine. charles doesnt' want me to cut it. i wish there was some kind of hair gel or mousse for babies lol

@Caro: LOL, yeah I love the Flintstones Gummies! Every now and then I buy a bottle and always end up eating the whole thing in the car.... bad girl, but they taste way too good. I need to stay away from them...

@Staashi: fortified, lol. thank God I never got sick from my pills. I will give the target brand a try. They seem very reasonable! My copay was $5/month for 30 prenatal pills, so that adds up to a lot more than the OTC vitamins.

@Kelly: wow you lucky girl!!! Can I send Ben over to your house for a few days? Maybe Zaids good behavior will rub off a little? :P

@Vi: are you still breastfeeding her at night? Maybe that's the problem? I think this is what started Ben's sleeping issues. He started to nurse for comfort rather than to feed when he was around 6 or 7 months old and it went all downhill from there. I should have probably weaned him but I kept going because I wanted to bf for 1 year. Now we have created an insomniak. I think this is what makes some babies wake up out of habit. I would try to reduce the night feedings and see if it gets better. good luck. I feel your pain. I sleep maybe a total of 2-4 hours per night. It's not fun, especially when you have to function for school or work. :((F)

I had been taking organic liquid vitamins before having the babies. I checked them out with my OB and she said I could keep on them. I cut out caffeine until I hit about 18 weeks. For about 6 weeks, I got soooooooooo exhausted I could barely function. I had to have some caffeine to make it through the work day. It was then I decided to go back on my liquid B vitamins (I could care less what the docs had to say, I couldn't function). Within a day I felt like a new woman and didn't have to call Hana and Zak parasites anymore! I was diligent about folic acid. I read cereal boxes. Life cereal has 100% of the RDA, one of the few cereals that is. So, I would eat it every morning. My mom has full-blown spina bifoda and I wanted to ensure my two didn't.

Anyone have a kid with wide feet and suggestions for shoes? Zak has super wide feet and finding shoes for him is next to impossible! We went out today and had no luck!

Let's see what happens tonight, I pumped some milk (mixed with rice cereal) and gave it to my hubby to give it to Sofia in her zippy cup, she took everything in one, I hope it keeps her stomach full.

Chnst@ Yes, I still breastfeeding and yes I think that when she wakes up she just looks for some comfort, as soon as I pick her up and give her my breast she takes it and goes to sleep after 1 minute, so it's not that she is super hungry. How do you do it??? when do you sleep? you must be extremely tired  .
