Don't watch those shows.... They just either scare you or give you false impressions of birth! I sort of didn't acknowledge birth til my water broke... I didn't want to spend my time being scared... I kept telling myself that women have been doing this for eons and I'll be fine. It sure was no walk in the park, but doable. I did hope and pray for my natural birth and I did get it, but I was prepared to accept an emergency csection as well, I mean I knew that I might get my ideal birth or that also I might need some medical intervention, if necessary.

And... most likely you won't remember much. I certainly don't. It is all fuzzy as if I was really drunk. I think nature erases the memories on purpose so we do it again ;)

There are some episodes of those shows though that are really beautiful births, those are the ones at the Birthing Center. No yelling nurses, no ice chip sucking (a laboring woman should be eating and drinking as she pleases!) - but calm and loving environments. Soooo nice. Nobody yelled at my birth cause I forbid it, hehehe. That would have driven me nuts.

Thanks for the comforting words, Anna.

So here I am, just finishing up my greek veggie wrap with feta cheese for lunch and surfing the net for pregnancy info when I came across a list of what NOT to eat when you're pregnant.

  • Raw fish - Darn! I LOVE sushi. OK, no biggie.
  • Raw eggs (no runny eggs) - D'oh! I just had one of those for breakfast last weekend!
  • Unpasteurized soft cheese - D'OH! I just ate feta cheese!
  • Caffeine (especially during the first trimester) - Arggh! I nursed my cold yesterday with hot chai tea!

I'm already making mistakes!

lol...I think a lot of us did that before we found out...I know my cousin went through a list with me the other day...

At my brothers wedding I sipped on Amaretto Stone Sours and popped 4 tylenol that day bc my head was pounding and found out I was 4 weeks preggo at the time. WOOPS! I also smoked cigarettes the first 6 weeks and drank occasionally due to not knowing. I had caffiene during my pregnancy but semi-watched what I ate and Zaid was A-OK. You will hear a million do's and dont's your entire pregnancy but I learned most things in moderation are ok.

Stef. Sorry to hear Ben still has sleeping issues. We are having a problem with Zaid sleeping so sound that he will take a poop and not wake up to let me know.(his poop isnt very smelly) Its driving me nuts. How bad do I feel when my kid wakes up in the morning and I can tell hes been laying in poop for 5 hours. Boys. geez. Could care a less if they poop themselves. Ill be thrilled to start the potty training full force this spring.

Zaid keeps saying "truck" or "fork" in different instances and they both come out as "####" So humurous listening to my lil guy learn how to talk. He amazes me everyday with his intelligence. Today he went for a haircut and the lady told him she was gonna use to blowdryer to get the hair off and he said "nooo I dont like it" lol <3 my little man

Awww how cute! And yes, I agree that all things in moderation. My dr. told me that coffee (just not starbucks) was okay. She said 1 to 2 cups was okay. I remember waiting for my coffee order and someone telling me " Are you sure you should be having coffee?" WIth all the hormones raging in me I wanted to sock him in his face...haha...

I took Eman for a haircut last week and he flat out refused to have it done. He wouldn't even take his hat off. I was so furious. I never thought I would be the kind of mom who would subject their child to an at home haircut but I had no choice. He has VERY thick hair (thanks to both daddy and I who have thick curly hair) and it grows so quickly. I took out the buzzer and off his hair went. It looks fine, exceot for the bangs. It looks like a bowl cut! Thank God it's winter and he wears a hat (he is being good about wearing a hat now : ) everywhere. I will try to post a pic.

Foods: The studies concluded that caffeine only had an effect the first 16 weeks... After that, the risk of caffeine-correlating miscarriage goes way down... So I had decaff lattes and frappuccinos til 16 weeks and then I indulged in my vice completely. ;) I didn't have a problem complying with most "rules" since I'm a picky eater and raw fish and fish at all makes me run like Forrest Gump! ;) Cheeses, btw, are rarely non=pasteurized these days so no worries!!! The issue about raw foods like dairy and meats is toxoplasmosis, and you can test for immunity. It is mostly transmitted through raw foods are cat feces. I swore I must be immune since I lived all my life with kitties, yet I wasn't immune. So go ahead and have yourselves tested to see whether you can eat those yummie foods or not. The upside was for me that DH had to clean the litter box, hehehe. ;)

I rarely cooked those lunch meats - concern here is listeriosis, a food poisoning bacteria. I was way tooooooo hungry and going nuts for that deli sandwich - I had to eat them a couple of times and I was fine. I figured the chance of food poisoning at the Deli is low, I mean how often does that really happen???? I mean I had food poisoning in October, it wasn't pretty, and I even cooked the meat entirely (it was ground beef from the supermarket), so you never know - but like I said, chances are slim.

Honestly, next time I won't fret it that much.

@ nizzy: I can't imagine... Jona has very little hair still, he takes after me, I have fine light hair. I'm so excited about taking him in for the first time to have his hair cut at a children's place. ;) But I think after that, I'll cut it at home til he requests to go elsewhere.

I don't like fish so that wasn't a worry; nor do I like anything raw except for fruits and veggies. I ate almost anything while pregnant, but I made sure I had all the good-for-me-and-baby foods first. If I was still hungry and wanted to indulge on something sweet I would. I drank my Starbucks at least 2-3X a week - full force on the caffeine. No worries. It was my only vice. I don't drink sodas so I didn't feel guilty there. Enzo was in great shape. :star:

I did eat sushi during both pregnancies and I had my several cups of coffee with caffeine too. IN my second pregnancy I did feel nauseous from the caffeine so I swiched to decaf and at around 12 weeks that nausea went away though.

In the US most cheeses are pasteurized so I would not worry about the feta cheese either.

When pregnant with Adam I did cook my lunchmeat and hotdogs but with Allie I didn't even do that.

Also, in my first pregnancy I took a couple of sleeping pills on the airplane and then again later cause I had trouble sleeping. A week later I found out I was pregnant.

Everybody makes mistakes even tough I wouldn't consider your eating habits a mistake. Just do what you feel like is right. After all you HAVE to eat and you HAVE to eat healthy.

Removal of Conditions Timeline:

Yeah he came out with a head full of thick hair...and serious looking eyebrows too! lol He was a little man...hehe...I think I should not have gotten lazy and driven the 30 mins to the childrens barbershop instead of hair cuttery, which is like 10 mins away...

don't worry about "mistakes" you make in early pregnancy. Your placenta doesn't even take over full function +exchange of maternal-fetal blood and nutrient exchange until sometime in the 4th-6th week (correct me if mistaken). So technically it's ok if you had a couple drinks/cigarettes/ibuprofen/tylenol/cheese/raw eggs etc early on. These guidelines are there to prevent you from repetively expose the fetus to harmful substances.

I was pretty good during my pregnancy, the plain sight of starbucks on my way to work made me sick during the first 12 weeks, then I had a daily coffee until I gave birth. Maybe thats why he doesn't sleep now lol.

@Nizzy&Anna: he eats a moderate amount of sugar/candy. MIL is spoiling him with all kinds of things, I dont even want to know.... but there is no way to stop her no matter what I do.

I don't think its sugar though because it has been a problem way before he had his first lollipop.

I know I can't stop what goes on at my mom's either...Well if you ruled out sugar than I don't know what it could be...hopefully he will grow out of it.

Thanks Stina! Yeah I decided it was time for an updated pic(even though that one is from his 1st bday)...hehe...I remember seeing Kavi and thinking how much he looked like Eman...do you have any pics??

I can't believe he is going to be 3 in February. With each birthday he is becomming more aware of what is going on around him so I have to pick a theme that he will like and get him a special cake. He loves when we pass by the cake aisle at the supermarket.

boy does Kavi look like his daddy. He is so big christina and as always adorable!

Maybe my kid is weird but he doesnt love sweets at all. Dont get me wrong he will eat a sucker now and then but he hates chocolate, desserts, etc. He will eat an occasional donut but other than that he isnt a fan... Guess thats a good thing.
