Ev. Im making kidney beans with beef stew in tomato sauce tonight and am nervous to let zaid try it bc i was worried he would get bad gas. Do the kids get it from em? Also, the little skins on them, I thought they would be hard for him to swallow

Allie did have difficulty with the skin and I pureed it but she didn't like it at all. She did have green beans, enriched rice and pork chops though. I should stop worrying about the anemia thing since the pedi didn't think it was serious. I'll call tomorrow and ask for the numbers.

Yeah, I forgot about the lentils. I have this veggie soup mix with lentils (hogson's head or someting like that), I cut up some celery, carrots and parsley and a cup of soupmix with water, let it boil for 90 minutes and it is Ben's favorite food and so easy to make.

Evi, slightly anemic is almost normal for babies, especially when they are still nursing. Try to give her OJ or something equally acidic, it enhances the absorption, that may do the trick. I don't even know Ben's exact levels either, I always forget to ask. They said his bloodwork came back and it was normal.

A Hb of 5 like Jonas' is pretty low and needs investigating.... If I was the pedi I would be alarmed, but if it runs in the family I guess that has to be considered. I don't want to scare you, but we usually transfuse blood as soon as the Hb is lower than 6 and especially a male. anemia can have many other causes, not necessarily iron deficiency. A Hb as low as 5 without symptoms WOW! i am glad he is better!

the lowest Hb I have seen in a patient was 6.something and the lady has been internally hemorrhaging for a while.

@Anna: I like that radioflyer thing! Ben has a huge wagon and a tricycle and he loves it. Just make sure it is not too small, some of their toys are made for dwarfs, and Jona is a big boy. Ben is already outgrowing his little bike.

Adam has a metal radioflyer car but he just can't figure out how to pedal it. I love it though. It looks all old skool :)

I don't know what was up with Hana last night. She woke up every hour to hour and a half crying. That girl LOVES sleep and never cries, so something was up. She finally fell back asleep at 10:30 pm. It wouldn't be bad, but mommy feels horrible and is debating getting into the doctor this morning. I have had two fairly sleepless nights due to abdominal pain. :( I already put in for a sub today.

@ chnst: The ped did check out Jonathan completely and there is absolutely everything healthy about him. She sees very low HBs often, typically in preemies or moms who were anemic during pregnancy. Jona wasn't the lowest Hb they have ever seen in the practice. My MD sister wasn't surprised either, low HBs with infants are not uncommon under the mentioned circumstances. The ped thinks that his HB dropped quickly as it happened around 10 months, which is a typical age for developing anemia. she said they get concerned if formula fed babies (since it has tons of iron), full term babies (should have full iron stores) and small babies (small to begin with) drop drastically - but not breastfed preemies (Jona was born 37 weeks straight but under 6 pounds so they classify him preemie for some reason).

I will call Radio Flyer today - they have no internet contact - to learn about country of manufacturing and ingredients used.

@ Evi: 2 in lead is low, they would say everything below 10 is okay, but studies show that above 4 levels lead to slow learners... So even though he is at 2, I want to minimize exposure which started by tossing those China lead toys :(

Doesn't stop them putting lead paint on it. Happens all the time, thus the recalls. The biggest recent one was Mattel - it was huge.

Thank God he doesn't play with Barbies. Ben doesn't put toys in his mouth, does just touching increase their lead level? I am not sure exaclty how high his lead levels were but they were ok and so far he is developing great.

"Your body can get lead from inhaling it, inhaling its dust, eating it, or absorbing it through the skin. However, it should be noted that about 50 percent of lead inhaled is absorbed, 10 to 20 percent of lead ingested is absorbed, and less than 1 percent of lead touched is absorbed in adults. For children, those percentages are significantly higher."

I cannot find exact numbers... But I ordered a huge lead test kit to test all toys and surfaces in the house. We know we have no lead paint or lead in the water (called city) and we do not live close to a busy road (busy roads are higher in inhaled lead exposure).

:D yeah no Barbies.. But it was other Mattel stuff too. They recalled it completely... But the thing is, the authorities cannot control what's going on in China. That's why I don't buy stuff from there and rather spend a couple bucks more and buy European/American/Canadian toys. And I research the companies well before that. And he still has plenty of toys - my niece has at least 5 times more stuff than Jona. And whenever we get stuff we disapprove of, we donate it to the Good Will.

Jona did the funniest thing the other day. So we have this new kitten, a Siamese. Jona was nursing and the cat decided to jump up on us and sit down on Jona's belly. Jona petted the kitten and continued to nurse, it looked soooo funny. I wish I could have taken a picture, it was so cute.

Anya: I started showing around 20 weeks with my first. At 23 weeks it was pretty visible for everybody and from 26 weeks on I wasn't able to hide the bump anymore.

So I called the pedi and she just called me back regarding the blood levels. For iron she's at a 10.3 so that's not too bad. I don't know how you measure it and she also mentioned a 30? @Chnst: What was the 30 for???

She said that any lead-test with no findings comes back at a 3 right away and Allie's was a 3 and is considered "no findings".

which cloth diapers are u planning on buying? i tried the ones you have to fold and use a pin and a diaper cover, but its so time consuming and complicated, charles never got to change those. i gave up on them after a few weeks and bought bumgenius pocket diapers, it's exactly the same as putting a disposable. if your husband doesn't want to change that it's because he's trying to get away with helping you.

I love cloth diapers. the only bad thing is having to wash and stuff them, but they hold way more. he has never had poop leaking, only pee, that's because he sleeps over 10 hours and sometimes he wakes up with his clothes slighty wet. with the disposables, it used to happen sometimes 3 or 4 times a week they'd change his clothes and he'd bring home pooped clothes because his disposables leaked.

i started showing real early, like when i was 13 weeks you could definitely tell i was pregnant. but at like 9 weeks i was starting to get a bloated belly.
