Stina, I have friends in CT who have done the India trip with an infant (five weeks older than Kavi, he was 5 months old at the time of the trip). I can give you their email-contact info if you wish.

(edit: they'll be doing the trip again this year with 17-month-old)

That's very nice of you Sri...I'll let you know if I have any questions I'd like to ask them hehe.

I'm gonna go to Germany on april 4th. I'll have both kids with me. Allie is booked for a Bassinett and Adam has his own seat. Luckily my parents agreed to pick me up from Frankfurt, so it is only a 10hr flight and overnight so I hope the kids will be sleeping. On the way back my brother booked his trip on the same flight (he wanted to come visit us anyway) so he'll be there to help me (and his girlfriend is there too). I'm not so scared about the flight to Germany since it is overnight but I wouldn't want to do the trip back by myself...argh. I remember Adam last year, it was very stressful.

My hubby booked his flight to Vancouver. He leaves on the 28th. I am a bit nervous about him taking Declan alone on the plane for the first time, I wish I could be there to help. Hubby is fabulous with Declan, it's just that I can imagine how challenging it will be to keep our wiggleworm occupied on the flight (about 5-6 hours with a stopover in Winnipeg, but at least he can remain on the plane).

Have fun in India Stina!!! And in Germany in April Eveline :)

Hi everyone! It's been a crazy time lately. I went back to work on Tuesday. The first day was ok. The second day I hated to leave the twins.

We have been managing here, but really don't quite have a routine down. I am sure that won't happen soon as my grandmother, sister, and two nieces will be staying with us for two weeks starting on Tuesday.

My experience with illness during pregnancy: I did so much better during pregnancy with my allergies and immunity. I didn't get sick once (even though all of my students and co-workers were sick ALL of the time). That is EXTREMELY unusual for me. It makes me think a lot of my allergy issues might be hormonally linked.

It's hard to believe how quickly time flies! Our duo finally have started to outgrow newborn clothes! I just switched out their clothes in the dresser last night. They are not huge around, but are both long. I think where I notice them growing the most is the hands and the feet. I swear they have doubled or tripled in size in their 5 weeks in this world!

AFM: I have been going to wound care after I managed to get an infection in my c-section incision. My OB thought it wasn't really infected because it looked healed from the outside (and it was 3 weeks post-op that it started to happen). However, I was experiencing unexplained drainage. So she sent me to wound care and they reopened the incision. Two weeks later, the wound is starting to heal and get smaller. It just kind of bites that I basically have an open wound. Up until now I have had to have the packing and dressing changed every day. Because things are looking better, I now have a seaweed / silver dressing that can be changed every few days. This is good because they can now put a waterproof barrier on the area and I can take a shower (two weeks of sponge baths was a little much). To be honest, the irritation from the drainage had caused more pain than I experienced from the surgery.

I am looking forward to the baby boom that will happen soon!

Eveline...That's good you are getting the bassinet for Allie and everything. I think for the flights to India, people must book the bulkhead seats way in advance to get those. I am not even sure how far in advance! When we were booking about 5 weeks in advance, of course all of those seats were snatched up. but for us to get a good price, we waited. Anyway Kavi is too big for the bassinet, I was just curious anyway when looking at flights, haha. Great that your brother will be helping you on the way back!

Autumnchik...I wish them a great trip! Aww, I know it will be hard since you are the mommy! :) Maybe try to think of it as a vacation for you in a way, you can sleep all night and just feed yourself! But I am sure you will miss them like crazy.

Twila-I admire you! When I was healing from the c-section, it was tough and I didn't even have an infection and all! You are doing so great even with that going on.

Hope all the preg moms are doing well.

I can drink again!!!

Don't look at me like that, not that type of drink :P

I finally found a liquid I can take without making me nauseous...Iced water!. Pretty much all ice and some water, but it feels great. I've been successfully hydrating myself for over a week with no nausea, and I can have tons of it!. No more dehydration yay!

autummchik@ I can imagine how are you feeling I'll feel the same, super nervous but at the same time you'll have a break  and I'm sure you need it. I'm already talking to my hubby about going to Peru in August when the baby is 4 months but he thinks she will be too small so we are changing the plans for next January, during the summer over there, the baby will be a littel older so that 'll be better.

Caro@ I'm glad you can drink again hahahaha, it's very important for you and the baby, when are you going to see him/her again???

More news from my job, I got an extra day off = less hours, it's ok, things happen for a reason right???

Mommies and mommies to be I don't know If somebody mention this topic before sorry I'm somebody did already but I think that' will be a great idea if we can share some tips about SAVING during this difficult times. We can start with a list like for example

* We change our phone plan for a cheaper one

*Don't go out to eat every weekend as we used to, I prefer to cook (even if I don't enjoy it so much)

* It's all about coupons now

*I buy store name brands

*I bring my own breakfast and lunch for work ( I'm saving so much )

@Vi: Yay for the money saving. What helps me a lot saving money on groceries is a meal plan. I always write down what I'm gonna cook and then put the things I need on my list and I stick with it (mostly). Also, a cranky toddler in the cart can make a BIG difference. You'll be in and out the store within 20 minutes when you have a toddler with you  .

I'm coming to like cooking. I'll never be a Martha Steward but I'm not as bad as I always thought I was.

Also, I'm making a bunch of (baby) things myself now. I checked on hairbands for little girls yesterday and was shocked to see that they went up to 30 bucks for a frigging hairband with a bow or a flower on it. So today I went to Hobby Lobby and got me all the stuff I needed for a hairband. I made two for a total of 2.40 Dollars...so much cheaper.

I also don't have a problem with handmedowns, especially when it comes to baby stuff.

The lunch thing is a great idea also.

:P i haven't missed any alcohol until a few weeks ago. I guess is because I've been watching gilmore Girls and she has dinner at her parent's house every Friday and they drink wine. I am really craving some Pinot Grigio.

@Caro: i've been drinking cold water during the entire pregnancy. Usually i drink regular temperature water during the winter, but now it has to be cold, and it feels good.

Cool idea Vi!

We also changed our cable company, and we are saving a lot!

But what helped us the most is to make a monthly budget. We sit down every month and do the budget, agree on it and post it on the fridge. We are paying off big chunks of our credit card every month to bring that down to a minimum before the baby comes.

We will use craigslist, once upon a child, and garage sales to try to find bargains for the baby needs and save :)

We have our next appointment on Thursday, but I'm not that excited with this one because they won't do another ultrasound until the 19 week, so we'll have to wait all that time to see the baby again. :(

Nessa your registry looks good actually. The only things I could go without are the diaper covers, diaper disposal and bags (a regular trashcan is just fine) and the bathtub. As for the covers. If you change daipers about 12 times a day you don't want baby to wear 15 layers of clothes so the less the better and you put pants over him anyway I guess. THe bathtub..hmm...for Adam we used one but it never really worked for us. With Allie I just put her into the bathtub on a towel. I filled the tub with 1 inch of water, put the towel in to soak and then put her on the towel and covered her with parts of the towel. It worked good and now she's taking sinkbaths anyway.

Other than that I think I have exactly the same stuff. I don't know where you live and if it is cold there longer but if baby was born in 7 weeks here, you could spare all the long sleeved stuff, a receiving blanket over baby would do but that really depends on where you live.

@ Nessa: Oh you had a cute cat there. Sorry for your loss...

With diaper covers, do you mean for cloth diapers or just those clothing things? If for cloth diapers, you need more than one in each size. I wouldn't buy Desitin, it's full of bad stuff. I'd go with Weleda diaper cream or Burt's Bees.

We had the Summer baby tub and Jona hates it... The bathtub is better with an anti-slip-mat or towel.

Pacifiers... I wouldn't use them in the beginning. Nipple confusion. First baby has to learn how to breastfeed successfully, then you can use it. But if you use it right away you can cause more trouble than you'd think. Jona likes it only sometimes. He hates MAM pacifiers. He only goes for NUK.

The rectal thermometer should have a flexible tip to avoid injuries... It will only work for so long. Jona is now too squirmy for it. We bought a temporal artery thermometer instead; our ped uses it, the hospitals use it too. It's gentle and can't cause harm. We picked it up for $23 at Costco.
