What is a "normal" afternoon nap time/length for an infant? (Is anything normal? :) ) Rayan wakes up in the morning sometime between 8 and 10 am and naps at some point before I get home around 2 pm. He usually wants to nurse not long after I get home, even if my husband has fed him recently. By 3 or 4 pm, he starts acting like he's ready for a serious nap, so I've tried to put him in his room around that time daily for the last few days. He can sleep for five or six hours at that point. Then he's up until around midnight or 1 am, and then usually sleeps straight through until morning.

The issue I'm running into is that I'll routinely get a call from a family member wanting to come by and see him in the afternoon. Today, I got him up for a visit around 4:15 pm before he was really into his nap, so he pulled himself out of sleep mode and laughed and visited for over an hour, then started getting really cranky. When his visitor left, it took me a couple of hours to get him to sleep because he kept crying and fretting. I think he was overtired by that point.

So there doesn't seem to be much of a window in the afternoon for either visitors or errands (last night, we managed to take him out for our flu shots without waking him, but that's unusual). I may just let all the family members know that they'll need to drop by before 4 pm and let me know their plans ahead of time so I can make a quick grocery store run before his nap if need be. I guess the length of his naps will shorten as he gets older? I want to let him schedule them himself as much as possible, since they seem to follow a pattern.

I'm the USC.

Well, to get Enzo to stay still while we change him we give him a nipple and lid from the bottle. He just loves to chew on it - it keeps him occupied for enough minutes to change him. Thank God!

Also, I make his own food - I steam butternut squash, pumpkin, spinach, carrots - whatever I have on hand to be honest, and then throw it into a processor. I'll portion it out into an ice cube tray and freeze it. It has worked like a charm so far. :star:

Staashi: That's how I made the babyfood. My kids never liked the Gerber food. adam will still not eat the Graduates or whatever which is fine with me. I won't push it on him gg.

I just wanted to say. Whatever I have said about Carter's before...SCRATCH THAT!!!! I went into a carter's store today totally expecting little rubber duckies, cute little elephants etc on T-shirts and onesies and I left with a HUGE bag and 80 bucks less in my account gg. OMG, they had the cutest clothes. I got Adam a shirt that says "Big Brother" and Allie a onesie that says "I'm the little sister". I love it gg. I bought some more stuff plus babyshower clothes for two of my preggo friends. They had almost everything 50%off. I'm still stoked lol.

E loves veggies - but he's not a fan of fruit. I'm going to buy some peaches and puree them - maybe he'll like those.

Caybee, Its very easy to manuever the babies naps. I know you dealt with a cranky baby but if u shifted his nap a few hours he would be just fine after a day or two of adjusting. Sounds like his "night sleeping" is starting very early. Zaid use to do 8pm-4am then 7am-11am which worked out PERFECT. Hope all is going well, Hey at least your baby is sleeping right? :)

Zaid is back to his goofy self after 5 days. He has a booger nose, but hey, whats new, he is a toddler right? No fever, no congestiong, nothing! I am so happy. I am ready to go back to our "routine" on Monday. He hasnt spent this many days with me since he was 4 weeks old so Im sure taking him back to day care is really going to hurt his feelings. I just hate that part.

Stef, Carrie, and Karen, can you believe our 18 month olds are closer to 2 years now then 1 year :( Where have our babies gone? Who is planning on number 2?

Hm I don't like Gerber, it's in plastic containers and I cannot find what plastic it is (there are no markings on it, there should be a number in a triangle indicating what it is) so I cannot say whether it contains BPA or not.... And I really prefer glass containers, no doubts of what's in there and a mind put at ease. It's prolly BPA free, but I really prefer glass.

I really wanted to cook food for Jona, but he was a late eater. He still isn't excited about food. He likes yobaby and eats some other things, that's it. Table foods are yucky for him, no way he would ever eat it. But I know a couple moms whose kiddos didn't really take off eating until 18-24 months and with him weighing 31.3 pounds, I'm not concerned at all.

The earth best's stuff though is really cheap at Target I think. There also the Happy Babys apple puffs and green veggie puffs are really cheap. He loves those puffs or when I make rye pancakes. :)

Sebas is ADORABLE!!!

Kel, I cannot believe our boys are so old. If hubby gets accepted to nursing school for next year, then I believe we will start trying for Baby Number 2 during the summer. If he doesn't get in, then not sure when we will. With only me working, finances are tight. If he is in a nursing program, there will be an end in sight and a future job.

Yes, there are triangels under the organic containers and it is a SEVEN....bohooo. I never understood why they would put organic stuff into BPA contaminated containers and whenever I did buy babyfood I stuck with the glasses.

hey everyone! I love all the halloween pictures!! Nessa I can't believe how big your little man has gotten!

staashi: Enzo is such a beautiful baby!

Kelly: wow, so glad Zaid is doing better! Ben was a monkey too for Halloween! H1N1 is everywehre here in upstate NY. This is the middle of nowhere but they jsut opened a entire unit for people sick with the flu where I work. There were also 2 fatal cases last week. And still no new vaccines in sight. I literally strip down at the hospital and boil myself under the shower, I am so worried I could bring something home and get Ben sick.

so I challenged an entire semester of Nursing classes last weekend and passed! :) I can graduate next may and I am now working on my resume! I am so happy that I am finally getting my degree here in the US. My nursing school has been so helpful with giving me credit and letting me test out of classes.

I floated to peds last week and I loved it. I didn't realize how much I missed my job until I went to the pediatric unit. I am so excited that finally there is an end in sight. I just love this job.

Hubby really really wants to have another baby. He will get promoted next summer and I will start working so he thinks its time for a sibling for Ben. I think he's nuts. no idea what we are going to do...

Ohhhh Caro he is precious. I totally miss that baby stuff. The cooing! Its so cute the expressions they make when they start figuring out they have a voice under there

Stef and Karen, Yes were thinking about trying next july/august too. I would like baby #2 to be born right around zaids 3rd bday. Plus, I had SUCH good pregnancy with Zaid, maybe if im pregnant the exact same months it will be the same with #2 lol

congrats, chnst.

we're not having another baby, but if we were, i'd be extremely scared that this time the pregnancy would be the opposite, not easy and the baby would also be the opposite, like a crying, clingy baby :P

Nessa, those were my thoughts exactly during the pregnancy with Allie. My pregnancies were both rather easy but I was always wondering if the second baby can possibly just as easy as the first one. Turns out...she was...lucky us. I wouldn't want to chance it with a third child though
