OMG Chnst. So glad to hear that ben is fine. I honestly wouldn't know what to do if one of my kids was choking.

take a cpr class for infants and small children. I have to take them every other year and I find myself learning new things each time I go, like the defibrillator use. They have free classes sometimes at Babies R Us or the local library. They also offer 2 or 3 hour classes instead of the entire day classes.

It is so important when you have little kids. But even I was in a complete shock and just thinking this is not happening to my baby and it was very hard to focus and not look into his little eyes. i will never forget the look in his eyes.

Oh boy poor Ben... DH had a situation like that with adults at officer training school. They were shoveling down their cereal as they had like 2 minutes to eat, it was like Cheerios or something, and one co-cadet choked. He turned super blue and if it hadn't been for a DH's friend who did the Heimlich on the poor guy he might have choked for good. It's always good to know those maneuvers for young and old. That's why I really want to take that class on infant CPR and Heimlich's and so on at our local hospital, as soon as it coincides with DH being at home, since I don't want to take Jona into a germy hospital!!!!

I'm glad Ben is ok! how scary! where can I find some guidelines on size/ types of food to avoid to prevent chocking?

Suddenly Sebas is having problems sleeping. I don't know if it was all the sleeping he did on my chest on the flights to and back from BA, but now he won't sleep on his crib. I rock him and get him to sleep -he's tired and falls sleep right away- I put him down (still sound asleep) and 5 min later he wakes up crying. What can I do? has anyone had this problem? co-sleeping would do the trick but I'm so scared of it, I don't get any sleep myself.

Saludos,

Caro

@Caro: Do you have a white noise machine or maybe you can let the vacuum run near his crib. Maybe that will do the trick.

Allie's been sleeping through the night there lately. She nurses at around midnight and then sleeps until 7:30am. Yay for that BUT that doesn't mean that I get a full night of sleep because I have a toddler who's not much of a good sleeper no more. He's scared of monsters and such and wakes up waaay too early for me. Yesterday he ran into our bedroom with a loud "MORNING SUNSHINE". While I think that is cute, 4:30am is just not the time for that :). I can't wait for the time change, then he'll be up even earlier...argh.

He sleeps on a Graco pack n'play newborn napper: it vibrates, and has nature sounds and music. We also tried the swing without success (swings + has nature sounds and music as well)

Interesting article

For baby, a breast-milk cappuccino: Morning feed gives infants a natural pick-me-up

Breast-fed babies receive a different milk drink depending on the time of day - the natural equivalent of cappuccino in the morning and Horlicks at night.

Ladies, Enzo is a little sick. Minor cough and runny nose. We believe he caught it from the drastic changes in temperature last week - 40 degrees one day, 80 two days later - one day AC, next heat. Any suggestions to make him comfortable and get him healed?

@Staashi: when Ben is sick I run the vaporizer and humidifiers 24/7. 0.9% NS nasal spray helps with the stuffy nose. hope he feels better

@Caro: we coslept for 6 months and it was the best sleep I got. Every baby is different though... have you tried swaddling? Moste babies are creatures of habit, keep trying, maybe he needs time to adjust.

We went to Germany when Ben was 6 months old and when we came back he stopped sleeping through the night. He is now 18 months old and we are ecstatic if he sleeps 4 hours at night. I don't think its the airplane flight or something, but it is funny that some kids have issues with sleeping after a long distance flight...

about the food: anything the size of your fingernail is the rule of thumb. No raw veggies, like carrots until he can chew on a more advanced level. Slice grapes or quarter. The most common choking hazards are hotdogs, grapes, nuts, raw apples

Staashi: I second the vaporizer plus I usually take the kids into the shower with me so they inhale the steam. If you can't take Enzo inside the shower with you, maybe you can just put him in a bouncer in the bathtub. I have breastfed Allie in a tub with warm water before and it relieves the stuffy nose temporarily.

@Caro: It might just be the readjustment to his old schedule what makes him wake up again. Also, their sleeping pattern changes almost weekly so don't be surprised if that happens every now and then. There's no reliable sleeping pattern with them for at least a year.

Staashi: I hope he feels better soon! Vaporizer helps me with my stuffed nose a lot, and we run it for Jona when he gets those huge buggers ;)

I couldn't cosleep entirely since hubbie wasn't a fan, but until Jona was 13 months, his crib was right next to me on my side of the bed. He did sleep a lot with me though because it is just easier. Baby wakes up, you pop them on the breast, baby eats and falls asleep, all good. The crib prevented him from falling out of the bed and he wore his sleeping bag, so no pillows/blankets close to him. Even hubbie was fine with that as it was so nice and quiet at night :D

He now is in his room, falls asleep with us in there and wakes up none to 3 times, depending on his day. Soon we will change the bed to toddler version, so he can jsut get out and come to us if he feels like it.

Chnst@ I'm gald Ben is doing fine. We had a similar situation at home about a week ago. I bought Sofia some "baby biscuits" my hubby told me not to give it to her but me being stubborn gave it to her anyway, what happened next? she started choking with a tiny piece, she turned purple and we didn't know what to do, she started coughing and I just put my hand inside of her mouth and took the piece out, poor baby she was so scared. We decided that she is not ready for that yet. I'm looking for CPR classes I think they are necessary if you have a little one at home. Silvio takes them every year because he is a teacher, he gave me some manuals to read but it's not the same.

Caro@ Sofia had the same problem, she didn't like to sleep on her crib or the swing, but she loved the stroller and to sleep on my chest. We read alot of articles about it and "how bad it is" we did it for a couple of months until she turned 3 months and things changed for better. Now we put her to sleep around 10pm (we have tried to put her to sleep early ,trust me) after a bath and some playtime and she can sleep until 6.30am next morning, from time to time she wakes up for more milk but that's it.
