Hi everyone! I just have a couple minutes to post a quick update - you know how it is. I see you heard the news that our little Adam arrived (thanks for all the congrats!). He was born on 10/15 - 8 lbs 2 oz. and 20". I was induced at 39 weeks for high BP and because they thought he was already 10 lbs. They wanted to do a c-section, but I wanted to try for a vaginal delivery first and we were very lucky to have everything go so well and I got the birth I was hoping for (labor was about 16 hours or so).

Here are a couple of pics. Hope to be able to be back online soon, but I've quickly discovered that breastfeeding a newborn is like a full time job!

Congratulations and you got that right Jenn! (re, breastfeeding)

Parenting you will soon learn is a 24/7 round the clock non profit undertaking

Good Luck girlfriend....hard at first but so worth it

Congratz Jenn!

Wow, at first look I think Adam looks so much like you! (just from your picture)

Congrats again Jenn! Adam is such a cutie! BTW...you need to change your status (or whatever you call it) from incubating member! :) Is you husband taking some time off to help you in these early days or are family members there? Getting some help during those first few weeks of sleep deprivation is sooooooo key!

congratulations on your new arrival too! I had no idea (F)

@Kelly, sweet night-night story!

@Nessa, lol at the talking nonstop in his swing. I love all the babbling.

@Jenn, Adam is so beautiful (L) I know you're both in heaven. As for the nonstop breastfeeding, there was a window there when it was easy to sit at the computer with the Boppy on my lap, and Rayan lying on the Boppy with a folded blanket between his head and the table, and nurse him that way for as long as he wanted while I transcribed. It's more difficult to transcribe that way now because of his size and because he sometimes frets and kicks if he's colicky, but I still do other things on the computer with him there. I've also been able to put him in a sling and do a few things around the apartment while he nurses. Even if Adam is totally velcro, you'll find ways to multitask so that he can nurse on demand and you can still do many of the things you want or need to do. But I know Wadi is making sure you have everything you need :)

Hubby is finally starting to think I'm spoiling Rayan because they play together all morning, but when I'm at home in the evening and he's awake, he often wants to do nothing but nurse nonstop when he can't possibly be hungry. But he already differentiates between us. Daddy's for play and Mommy's for comfort, though not exclusively. So I let him nurse as much as he wants to. When he's more mobile, I'm sure he'll be more interested in doing things other than living on the breast. He cracks my husband up because he'll be latched on with just his eyes showing, and he'll just stare at his dad. Then if Jamal comes over to kiss him, he shrugs him away.

He's holding his head up really well now, and if I put him in a sitting position, he straightens up that back and really tries to sit without support, though he's nowhere near ready. I was holding him like that yesterday, and one of the cats came within a couple feet of him and looked at him. He straightened right up and stared at that cat. That's the first time I could tell that he was paying any attention to them, though he seems to like Wonder Pets, especially that duck.

aw caybee he is growing ...and loving music already I see....great!

(F) chrissy: so rry to hear about that.

people, about babyproofing. when there's an outlet with an equipment plugged, like an outlet with the tv plugged, does it need anything special to help prevent the baby won't pull the cord and get electrocuted? know what i mean?

Chrissy: I'm so sorry, I hope it gets better.

Caybee: You'll be fine... Believe me. I pumped 5 oz in about 5 minutes and he ate it in like 2! Little hungry babies ;) Maybe you just start pumping once, then twice a day and so forth and feed it in a bottle so he gets used to it as well as your breasts get used to it. It is a little different for the body.

Jona slept through the night last night! Woohoo! I didn't expect it to happen so early! We established a routine, at 7:30pm he eats dinner, then we change him and put him into the sleeping bag and around 7:50pm he nurses and falls asleep peacefully. He slept until 7:10am! We first stretched nursings from every 3 hours to every 3:30 hours, etc. We wouldn't nurse but pick him up, rock him back to sleep... He went from waking up 3 times to twice to once and now he slept through... I know it will take another 3-4 weeks to have that established fully, but it is awesome. We have the perfect no-cry-sleep solution (and that was super important to me, no crying it out) that works for him. :)

Nessa: making sure that baby has no access to the cord. It's the only way. E.g. we have a media center for all the equipment that allows to thread the cables through the back, and unless you move the furniture, it's impossible to get to the cords.

Chrissy@ Sending lost of good energy to you mommy

Nessa@ We have a similar problem, we just have to watch her all the time.

I wish Sofia can go to sleep that early, she usually goes to sleep around 10pm but when we try to put her to sleeps early, like yesterday (9pm), she wakes up in the middle of the night to make up for that hour

Sorry to hear your news Crissy. I'll keep you and your mom in my thoughts.

My two have an obsession with cords. They will team up so that the one will distract you while the other goes for it. :( We almost have two crawlers. Hana was up on her knees today! I guess she finally figured out scooting around on her back wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

I need to make this thread my favoirite since it's so hard to find!

The only symptom I got now is bloating and heart burn.

sometimes I freak out and have to take the test again coz I thought I was just dreaming this up

Does anybody here had a midwife? I'm so leaning on midwife and I want to hear any good or bad stories about them :)

I had a midwife Anya, and I loved her. She was in partnership - two midwives and two MDs which worked out well because at the end I had to have an unplanned C-section, so one of the doctors from her practice did it and she was there as his assistant the whole time. I really liked her calmness and common sense approach throughout my pregnancy and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with her.

Chrissy - praying for your mom (F)

Nessa - I agree with the out of sight thing whenever possible regarding the cords. I think they are extremely fascinating to the little ones, but it DOES pass. I even put a big laundry basket in front of one just for a couple of weeks until the curiosity fixation moved on to something else....

Enzo loves cords!!! Cannot emphasize enough. He will crawl allover the place to get to them. The other day, he was watching me blowdry my hair. My dryer has a thick cord on it, and you could see him look from the outlet to the dryer and back again - it was like he was thinking, "How can I get my mouth on that???". Smart boy.
