I just realized how lost I am about vaccines, I 'm getting alot of important info from you girls, thank you!. I read somewhere here about the "parties" but I'm not a big fan and knowing my husband he will never let me bring Sofia to one of those events. They are pretty popular here in NYC, specially in wealthy areas.

At home I speak to Sofia mostly in spanish, daddy speaks to her in english but he is learning some new words in spanish too. His spanish is not perfect but he understands If i talk to him slowly or as he says "despacio, por favor" (slowly, please).

About breastfeeding, I'm doing it and I absolutely love it, I had to bf a few times when we went shopping ad I just go to the fitting rooms or to the car, I just bring a blanket with me.

Jenn @ Funny you mention the red hair baby in your dream, Sofia has red hair and she got it from mi FIL, I'm not a big fan of him, specially now that he is upset 'cause his son doesn't go to visit them everyday after work. I think that he forgot that his son is married and misses his wife and baby daughter, the man is crazy!

I used to think it's weird to nurse in public. But I'v done it more and more now. And it's not like you show off naked skin, I wear nursing tanks and you cannot see anything. Jona rips down any blanket you try to put over him. And sometimes it's either in public or a restroom that is all gross and disgusting, no thanks, I choose the public then. Like a nice little bench in some corner.

Oh boy so I guess I can call my son officially a toddler now, walking and doing God knows what with our house and the cat! He can't say much but mama, but if you ask him for different things, he will point at them, in both languages. He's 13 months now and a bilingual boy, so I don't expect too much too soon. Boys take longer and bilingual makes it even harder. We can tell though that he understands what we say and want from him. It sort of makes life easier, communication is so much better than guessing what your kiddo wants!

No red hair in either of our families - I think I just have anxiety about what the baby is going to look like. My mom is blonde, but I don't think it's possible for the baby to be blonde with both of us having such dark features. If he does, people might think I had an affair with the milkman or something. lol. :jest:

Sofia's red hair is gorgeous, btw. :star:

Speaking of milkmen :P - Justin and I are wondering if Sebas will be tall, since he was such a big baby. It would look totally odd because I'm 5'2 and Justin's around 5'6 - but his dad was 6' and his uncles are even taller, so I guess he does have someone to take after - still, would look totally weird (and how am I going to convince a 6' teenager to go take a shower and do his homework!?)

Caro

Rayan is seven weeks old today. I weighed him yesterday, and he weighed 15.5 pounds. Then I changed his diaper, and he weighed 14 pounds. His hands and feet seem so big. I'm anxious to see what the doctor says at his two-month appointment. He's getting breastmilk exclusively and nursing on demand as much as I can manage it. I try not to "insist" that he empty bottles of expressed milk when we use them.

His dad hasn't really started speaking Darija to him yet. I told him yesterday that he's better start now while his brain is so busy soaking everything up...or I could do it, and he'll have my accent!

Oh, and Jenn, Rayan appears to have reddish/light brown hair. Jamal's is dark brown, as is most of my family's. Mine is medium brown, but used to be much lighter. Some cousins have red hair. Everyone's eyes are brown but mine; mine are hazel/green. Rayan's are still blue, but I'm sure that will change. So it's all still a toss-up. I think he'll end up dark brown/dark brown though.

For the mommies that had a csection:

*Did you use anything to minimize the scar (mederma, bio oil, sylicone strips, etc). If so, what?

*What was the result?

*How soon after the procedure did you start treatment, and for how long did you use the product?

I'm trying to figure out what to use on my scar. I have a low transverse (bikini) incision, closed with stitches. I know I will have a scar, I just hope to make it as least noticeable as possible

Saludos,

Caro

@ Caro, my sister gave me some Mederma since it worked well on a scar for her, but I haven't started using it yet, seven weeks out. I worried about anything touching the incision for a long time, probably long after it had healed completely, but it's probably safe enough to use it now. Hope you find something that works for you.

Adam was 13lbs at 5 weeks. First they grow like crazy but slow down after about 6 months..we were off the charts there for a few months.

@Caro: I used Vitamin E oil on the skin for a while and also Preferon for scars but I stopped after a while. I cannot stand touching or being touched there so I just never continued.

ETA: Here's a picture of Adam at 5 weeks...he looks so different http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x244/Ev...20Adam/7880.jpg

@ Eveline, good to know the weight will level off. It seems strange to see babies who are sitting up unassisted and are so much smaller than Rayan. But his development seems to be on track. Adam was a cutie at 5 weeks :) One of my husband's friends told my husband that we should be supplementing with formula! (My husband knew better.) I think their newborn weighed 5 pounds and had some issues so they were told to supplement the breastmilk, so that's between them and their ped, but it's one more bit of unsolicited advice for us
