@Caybee: A lot of times, very young babies just have gas. It's just the way it is. After the first three months it gets better. Both my babies had trouble with gas. It seems thought that dairy is a trigger for a lot of things. The ear infections Adam and Allie used to get, might be due to a milk allergy. Ben's (Chnst's Ben) constipation might be due to milk. If you google "lactose intolerace in baby/toddler" you find a whole lot of articles. The lactose is such a complex thing and it really is not for human consumption but unfortunately it is in almost everything we eat (as milk/whey or lactose etc.)

Do you have supply issues. Maybe you have an oversupply or too much foremilk that causes gas?

Allie had her 1 year checkup today. She's 24.5 lbs and 30 inches long. No shots because she's sick.

Gas is pretty common in the early months. While it can be allergy related, most babies are gassy this early on. It just went away with Jona when he was about 12 weeks old. I tried cutting out diary and it didn't do a thing. But after 12 weeks he never had problems again.

I don't remember where I read it, I think the Dr. Sears book, but the first 12 weeks are also called the 4th trimester of pregnancy. Babies aren't ready to be out yet, and have to adjust (esp. nervous system and digestive tract). It sort of is a compromise to be born after 40 weeks: you can't stay longer cause you get too big, but you are also too under=developed to 'function' properly. It was explained there that's the reason so many parents observe a sudden change after 12 weeks, babies are just more used to our world. It made sense to me.

Zak had bad gas issues as well, and he is formula fed. We did switch to a sensitive formula which has the milk proteins broken down a little further. This helped some, but not a lot. When he got really fussy, we gave him some gripe water. You can get it at BRU and other places. It is basically a homeopathic remedy. I know it has a little ginger in it and I can't remember what else. Every one I know swears by it (and I liked it because it was not medicine). Like others have said, around 3 months his issues just disappeared and he turned into a totally different baby.

Zaid had terrible gas and was put on a hypo allergenic formula and there was instant relief. Mylicon and gripe water did NOTHING. I know my sis is breastfeeding her 6 week old who had terrible gas as well accompanied by constant grunting allll day long and she started recording every single thing she ate and an hour by hour chart of how severe the babys gas was to kinda narrow down what was causing it.

Like most said, babys systems are underdeveloped and it does take time for them to mature. By 3 months, they are like brand new kids. Hang in there!

Just thought I would post this for you ladies. I got it from another pregnancy forum I'm a member of. I notice it doesn't have any links proving the validity of the statement but figured you all could check it out for yourselves if you were really interested.

Warning on fenugreek - just found this out. Fenugreek is part of the peanut family and can trigger peanut allergies. (Peanut proteins transfer through bm and can trigger a reaction in your baby)

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

I'm not really posting on VJ anymore. I just come on to read this thread from time to time. I figured I didn't need a "name" to do that so I changed it.

Caro@OH mY godness you still here? paciencia chica!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S COMING SOON!

Sofia had a Dr's appointment today, she weights 15lb 3oz and 25 inches long. She is doing great and we have to go back for the 1st flu shot in one month and the second one in December. He adviced us to get the shot too.

She is growing so fast, we had to go to Target to get her a bunch of clothes now that the weather in NYC is changing drastically. She has tons of summer clothes still, some of the she never got to wear :crying: and I have to put then away in containers. My baby is trying to crawl too, I can't believe that she will be 6 months next week.
