Jenn, FWIW, I get less sleep these days, and at times I'm extremely tired, but I've also got a higher tolerance for sleep deprivation, if that makes sense. A lot of things that used to annoy me just don't now. Whenever I babysat or did childcare in the past, for example, diaper changes were a chore, but now they're no biggie. Total paradigm shift. I'm guessing you're going to love it.

@Nessa: hope Ben feels better soon.

about the sleep deprivation: I always needed 8 hours of sleep at night to function and I was worried how I'd deal with a baby and less sleep. It is tough but your body can still function on very little sleep.

Ben is the worst sleeper. I don't think it could get any worse. on an average night I get about 2-3 hours of sleep total. In between thse 2-3 hours we get up about 8-16 times/night.

I really think he's an exception though. I am amazed at how happy and energetic he is during the day with that little sleep. If anyone knows about a good sleeping aid for children let me know.

@Stef: Are you still nursing Ben? Just wondering.

My kids are both sick. I can totally tell that school has started again. I hope that stage is over soon. Adam can take the sickness but Allie...poor little thing. She has boogers all in her hair, on her cheek, hands etc.

Also, apparently Adam learned a new word at school "STUPID". He called me stupid yesterday and he got what my husband likes to call "a German word lashing" for that. He hasn't said it since and I will ask the teacher on Wednesday if he has used the word at school before.

@Eveline: yeah, he is still nursing at night. My goal for the summer was weaning, but it just doesn't work. He could be away from me for weeks, but as soon as I am there, he will not stop screaming until he gets what he wants. and then he will still not go back to sleep.

Hubby slept in his room last night so I could get a break. he goes to sleep at 9pm, sleeps till 11.30 or midnight, then screams until 6 am, sleeps another 1 or 2 hours. that's pretty much his pattern. Or I bring him into our bed and he is quiet but restless and awake all night. His gums are swollen so I am guessing he is getting his molars, but even if we give him tylenol or motrin at night there isn't much of a difference. Every once in a while he sleeps 4-5 hour stretches but that was ages ago. I am one tired mommy. I made a deal with hubby- I will have another child once Ben sleeps better.

eta: hahaha, I bet he learned it at his daycare... Ben is starting to repeat everything we say, so we have to be very careful now. I hope Allie&Adam feel better soon!

Stef, 6 hours of sleep for a toddler on the move just doesnt seem like its enough. Does the doctor know he isnt sleeping? Have you tried just keeping him in his own room and when he cries see if he will put himself back down? Also, does he nap during the day? Have you tried putting a pack n play in your room and letting him sleep in there with you? Maybe he doesnt like his room? lol I dont know what I would do if i spent every night for the past 16 months awake when im suppose to be sleeping lol. I truly dont know how you do it. I feel bad for ya girl :( thats not enough sleep at all

Oh my Stef. YOu have always said that Ben was a terrible sleeper but he is just not getting better. I don't know how you do it. I can live on four hours of sleep for a few days but then would probably fall asleep on the supermarket checkout  . Good luck to you and hopefully Ben will be sleeping more soon.

Stef@ That's too much, you must be EXTREMELY tired. Sofia is sleeping very good since last week, the key was to shorten her naps. She goes to bed around 10.pm and wakes up next morning around 7am, she can be playing by herself for a good half and hour before starting crying for milk. During the whole day she taked maybe two 40 minutes naps, I feel bad 'cause some times we have to wake her up but if we do't she won't sleep at night.

Nessa@ How is Ben doing?

Caro@ Hola?? are you there??
