@Jay&Jenn: glad to hear things are going well for you!

@Caro: wow, looks like you are really close to having your baby!

Ben is all set up at his child care center, we went there yesterday to meet the teachers and he loved (so did I!) I feel really good about him going there while I am in class and working at the hospital. It will give MIL a break too, so she does not have to watch him constantly.

I am so glad they have an open house policy, I can go visit Ben in between classes and there is no strict routine, they will follow Ben's schedule.

I am nervous about going back to school and this time I have two 9 hour shifts at the hospital/week in addition to classes and I will have the 3.5 hour drive upstate each week. It's going to be so stressful, can't wait for christmas! :P

@ Twila, Jamal brought back an Eid outfit for Rayan that J's nephew wore when he was five or so, and he found him a little uniform for the Moroccan national team, but that's also too big for now. He couldn't find anything there in a smaller size. I agree, I haven't seen too many little boys' clothes that aren't sports-related. I've flipped through some patterns, and some are real cute, so I may try that route when I have some spare time - ha! I'm looking forward to seeing Hana in her dress :)

@ chemaatah, quite a while ago, you mentioned a hadith about putting a tiny bit of mushed date on a baby's palette at birth. We didn't do this, but this evening Rayan was fussy (I think overtired because I'd ruled out hungry, wet, and gassy), and since we have dates around for the holiday, on a whim, I gave him the tiniest little bit of date juice on my finger, less than a drop. He calmed down immediately! He took his paci and was asleep within a minute or two, and he stayed asleep for two hours. I won't make a habit out of that, but I'll sure put it in the repertoire.

too funny! i'm glad he was finally able to wind down and let himself get the rest he needed. we've been sharing dates with ayah now that she's a big girl, and she loves them. i put little pieces in her oatmeal or yogurt. but then, she'll eat anything. i have never seen a baby with such eclectic taste for food as her. (but then all moms think their baby is the only one to do things like that :lol: ) i shared a blueberry pancake with her the other night, and she had to pry out all the blueberries and eat them first before she would eat the pancake. it was kinda funny.

Rayan was lying in his bassinet a little while ago, drooling milk. I blotted it and he grinned. Then I said, "Are you drooling?" and he laughed. I have trouble believing it was just random neurons firing. He is really focusing on faces these days, reaching out to touch us. I know I'm not imagining this -- he interacts differently with his dad and me. He holds my finger gently, but he grips J's finger so hard his little fingertips turn white. He pats my face, but he grabs J's lower lip and pulls. I wonder what signals we are sending for him to respond differently to us like that, whether it's something chemical or whether we're touching him differently. J is very gentle with him, and since I'm more confident now, I flip him all around to get him into different nursing positions, so I can't imagine that our interactions are that different, but they must be somehow.

@ vi: good luck.

Ben is taking the breasts less and less. He doesn't stay on it and he hits me, seriously, with one hand he grabs my breast real hard and with the other he punches me lol not kidding. It's like he doesn’t have patience anymore. So I'm sticking with pumping.

@jayjat: congrats and nice name.

Ben threw his first public tantrum yesterday at starbucks (funny how all his "firsts" seem to happen there, huh?). The guy behind us in line said "I wish I could tell you it gets easier, but it won't"... lol, at least he was empathetic. He flipped out because I got him a juice box with milk (do you call these milk-box??) and I couldn't get the straw in fast enough, so he threw the thing, milk splashed all over and then threw himself down, screaming, banged his head in the process and screamed even louder... oh boy, if they call this the "wonderful ones" I can't wait to see what the "terrible twos" will bring.... :unsure:

Totally OT, but Sebas is coming on an all-sports year. We have

-Longhorns are ranked #2 this year

-Chicago bears (Justin's originally from Chicago, and he's a Bears fan) have a new quarterback that is really good and has everyone excited

-and then the World Cup! :star:

Poor baby is going to have a ton of sports tshirts and hats :lol:

@HLM: That'd be awesome! Just don't have your baby before I do, or I'll never forgive you :lol::P

@chnst: That's cute! Sending you some extra patience good vibes :star:
