I forgot to say...Caybee, we want pics! :D

@Jenn: I love the new custom title  How are you feeling?

@Vi: We have been in the triple digits in Austin for over a month :dead: Well, more encouragement to go swimming!

@ caybee; Congratz and get well soon!

@ Caro: Jona was PS and turned in labor at some point. He however forgot his arm/fist in front of his face... I pushed for 2:36 hours cause of this, but it's doable. My midwife has delivered many sunny side up babies!

Thanks Anna :star:

ps: oh noes, am I next in line for delivery?

Saludos,

Caro

Zaid saw the doc this morning. We got prescribed hydrocortizone 1% cream for his eczema and they went ahead and did his 15 month checkup, He is 34 inches and 25lbs. The doc recommended vitamins for his skin and a change of diet. He did get 2 shots (they wanted to do 4 and I said NO) and the lil ####### didnt even cry, he gave the nurse this dirty look and went on his way. I hope his eczema clears up soon, I hate seeing him itchy

@ Caro, yep, looks like you're next! I'll be cheering for you.

@ Twila, I know it's difficult leaving them and getting back to the school routine. I hope the transition is as smooth as possible.

@ Staashi, wow, Enzo is growing so fast!

I started this post hours ago -- I guess that's the way it will be for a while :) Rayan's pic is on the hospital website here http://www.palmettohealth.org/bodyIframe.c...54&oTopID=1. He is doing well. He slept almost constantly until yesterday, but his eyes were open for a good while this morning. We were released on Monday, and my milk came in that evening. His ped asked us to go in for a visit yesterday because he was just a little jaundiced when he was released, and he'd lost almost a pound in the hospital. Just before we left, a lactation consultant spent a long time with me and suggested that since my milk wasn't in yet at that time that I nurse him 15 minutes each side, then supplement with 10 or 15 ml of formula (to get him eliminating more so the jaundice will go), then pump for 15 minutes each side, so I've been trying to do that, though once I was able to express enough milk, I started giving breast milk in the syringe instead of formula to supplement. Apparently, the jaundice makes him so sleepy that it's difficult to rouse him enough to suck for long periods, but I can get it into him with the syringe.

I was tickled to see him so alert earlier this morning, but he went from that to a little fussy and would only calm down if someone cuddled him. I think all the looking around this morning got him overstimulated. My husband held him for a couple of hours so I could take a nap. Yesterday, he went 12 hours between wet diapers. Now he's getting those every 2 or 3 hours, thank goodness, but he hasn't had a messy diaper since about 2:30 a.m. yesterday, and I'm wondering if he's constipated or if he's just out of meconium and transitioning to a different kind of poop. I'll call the pediatrician today if he doesn't have a messy diaper within a couple of hours.

Time to feed him. More later. Take care, all!

@ Caroll Anne: Don't worry, exact same thing happened to us. Jona's Bilirubin was 12 when we left the hospital. He barely lost weight cause we stuffed him every 3 hours with my milk in a SNS - but we had to since we started with so little weight (under 6 lbs!).

Anyways, jaundice goes away with lots of breastmilk (they prolly told you to wake him every 3 hours). Stripping him down to a diaper to keep him awake will help, also tickling as you did. Nurse him at a window and take him out in just a diaper (as weather permits). Sunlight helps the blood to break down bilirubin and hence getting rid of jaundice. Before it got better, it got worse for us - when he was 1 week old bilirubin was at 14 or 15. We refused any further blood draws from the heel as the measurement isn't accurate (arm blood is better and easier to get!) and we just watched how he did. More and more, he was more awake, ate with more appetite - just exposing him to a lot of light and efforts to keep him awake during nursing soon paid off. he got so into nursing! We pumped too and gave hiim 15ml in a bottle before nursing. I had no idea how much he ate til he was weighed before and after during a lactation consultant visit.... He was 6 days old, mind you, and ate 100ml.... So 15ml from the bottle of expressed milk and 75ml from me in less than 5 minutes.... I was quite amazed!
