A quick note from the motherland. Henry is a hit with grandma, grandpa, second cousin-2 times removed blah blah blah....Daddy stayed with us for 2 weeks and is on his way hom as we speak. The boys and I are staying an extra week. Henry found it hard to settle into a good night-time routine, it seems the pnp my sister got for him isn't very comfortable. I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying your time 'home'. Sorry that little Henry is not quite the sleeping-champ. My kids had trouble adjusting first, being awake a lot at night for the first week or so...it was tough and what was even tougher was, that there is no good kids TV in the middle of the night in Germany  . I was screwed. I bought a bunch of DVDs so when we're back in Germany at least we'll have some Caillou to watch at 2:38am  .

Have a safe trip back home.

@ Caro - The hospital where I delivered has 3 lactation consultants on staff, and I worked with all of them. I also did a lot of research on my own and contacted a Canadian doctor who is well known for his work advocating for breastfeeding. My ob-gyn was supportive and tested my prolactin level and then prescribed meds to increase my milk production. I felt very supported and it did help and breastfeeding was getting a lot better, until Declan's surgery. It affected his routine for sure and also, I am sure I was giving off frightened, anxious vibes. Even though the nurses there were supportive too and encouraged me to try to breastfeed (which I did), I had such a hard time relaxing to breastfeed when I was holding my baby with tubes coming out of him!

Karen, this was my experience to a "T". I couldn't get Enzo to latch on at all, plus because he was in the NICU he had all these monitoring wires and his IV attached to his head. It just made it a fearfilled experience.

I will say though that in Tallahassee, there is a great group of lactation consultants and lactation nurses, etc. Sadly, they just couldn't really help me too much.

good idea. Note to self, pack Baby einstein dvd's. Unfortunately Ben doesn't like watching TV much, he can't even sit still to eat a cookie, but it may be worth a try.

The only thing that was on at that time (except for the naked ladies on DSF and Eurosport) was a show on ARTE about mass production. They showed artifiial insemination of a cow or how little chickens were gassed because of their gender etc....It was sad for me but Adam loved seeing the animals....German TV is cruel :blink: .

breastfeeding for me started to get difficult once i came back to work, supply and demand, i don't bf as much so it started to dry out. i have to pump twice at work, it's really frustrating. I used to love bf, but he takes so long, i know he likes to be attached to my breasts, BUT it's way easier for me to just heat up a bottle and give it to him. I want to keep bf until he's 6 months old at least, but if after that it's still so much work to do so i'll probably give up, he'll be eating solid and oatmeal by then, so he won't need breastmilk as much anymore.

baby einstein, i need to see if they have in portuguese

yay they do. i'll ask my mom to send me

Nessa: He's a cute little guy. It's hard to believe 4 months already.

My two will be 7 months old this week. :crying: I didn't realize until yesterday when we were hanging out with a friend and her baby that is 5 months old how BIG my two have gotten! To me they still seem small. Ha! They now are becoming a big boy and big girl. (I tell them that all the time and they both LOVE it. They smile, laugh, and giggle.)

I go back to work this week after summer vacation. :crying: I miss teaching, but I will miss spending so much time with my babies as well. Oh well...Daddy will get to spend more time with them now. He is home with them until 11 am. Then he takes them to the sitter before heading off to work. This summer he has slept in and just spent a little time with them in the morning. It will be an adjustment for him to get up at 7 am with them.

Thanks for the replies on experiences with using lactation resources :star:

We had our appointment on Friday. Good news is - baby is head down (and has been for quite a while so chances are he'll stay that way). Bad news is...he is occipital posterior (his back facing my back, when it should be facing my belly). I feel so disappointed because I have been doing the exercises to get him in occipital anterior position ever since I read about fetal positioning, but still...we're facing this problem. It is still early, and it would not impede a vaginal delivery, but I really need to get the baby to turn to have a better delivery. In addition to the exercises I started swimming, so I hope to get him to turn by the next appointment. Wish me luck :(

Saludos,

Caro

Caro: Adam was OP and gave me a hard time. We didn't know that he was positioned that way until the doctors did an US after I had already pushed for over two hours. I pushed another two hours and eventually gave in to the c/s. It is not impossible to deliver an OP baby but it is apparently harder. Lots of babies turn in labor though so you definetely have a chance.
