I wouldnt worry about it either, my boy wouldnt ever sit still to read until he was older than Adam is now. Every kid is different :) right now Adam is busy developing his motor skills and all kinds of other things. My parents said I didnt talk until I was more than 2, to the point where they were getting a little worried and considering getting me tested, then all of a sudden the dam broke and I just started talking in sentences.

as for scheduled learning time, my daycare lady beleives in that and she spends some short portions of time a couple of times a day even with the very small kids going over shapes and colors and stuff, but my opinion is that it only works because its a group setting and all the kids are just watching each other and doing what the others do. SO I am not sure if it would be something enjoyable for Adam at home, and of course the last thing you want to do is make him dislike it. Does your public library have a story time or anything that incorporates reading with other activities like dancing or music?

I did get Adam to sit down yesterday. Eric brought home a bag of jelly beans to teach him colors haha. He still didn't get it so now I'm worried if

either he is colorblind  , or maybe he just doesn't care yet. We'll see. I'll keep your posted on that issue :)

@ Evi: I wouldn't worry. If there was a problem, the ped would have picked it up I'm sure.

So.... My sister had her baby today! At exactly 39 weeks. Jaron David. I don't know details yet, but she delivered vaginally, and not per c-section as her doctor tried to push her to for such a big baby. Yeah the really big baby is 6 pounds 7 ounces. WOW. What a big boy - EYEROLL. I'm glad she went with a midwife!

Hello moms! I have a problem with my 5 month old baby girl. I changed her formula from Similac ready-to-feed to Enfamil and she was doing okay. I have already started giving her Gerber 1st food and rice cereal. I have noticed for the past 2 days, she's been having a tough time pooping. She kept on pushing but nothing's coming out. She's very fussy and I don't really know what to do. Any ideas? Thank you.

@Vi: Hope you had a great anniversary!

@Anna: congrats aunt! :dance:

@autum: reminds me of a story with my brother...the first words he learned how to write were poop and fart (don't know where he got it from!)...and one day he just wrote those words in every single book on our library  for years you would come across poop and fart in every book in our house!

Caro@ Thank you, we had a pretty cool quiet anniversary celebration, just went out for dinner with the baby, locally.

Eveline@ you made me laugh with the jelly bean story, every kid is different I'm sure he will get there.

jewellyn@ I wish i can help you but i'm just breast feeding for now

Ok Girls, I need some advice to gain weight, I checked it today and I'm weighing 100 pounds, that's insane, 8lb less that before I got pregnant, I'm eating like a truck driver ( as we say in my country), lots of carbs, protein, pre natal vitamin still and even junk but nothing works, what should I do?? my clothes are super loose and hubby and me are very concern  .

Anna...YAAAAY :dance::dance::dance: I'm so glad your sister listened to your advice (and your other sister's) and went with a midwife. That is one chunky baby she had  . Congratulations on your nephew.

@Jewellyn: I'd say TOO MUCH IRON. There's iron added in formula and in the rice cereal. Stop giving one of it and maybe feed some probiotics (you can get them in a healthfood store. I use these: http://www.jarrow.com/product.php?prodid=201) to get baby's digestive system back on track. You seem to feed too much at once. The digestive system is still so immature and too much iron fortified food will constipate them. Good luck.

@ Vi: Same here... I just keep eating! Currently I eat 3 eggs for breakfast, make sure I drink whole milk and whole milk yogurt, etc.... Just make sure you buy no low fat stuff or diet stuff. The real stuff counts now :)

@ jewellyn: I don't know much about formula brands since DS is breastfed. However, formula is iron fortified. Rice cereal is from a nutrition point of view totally worthless, and additionally, iron fortified. Iron causes constipation. I'd cut out the cereal asap and wouldn't reintroduce it. It's pointless. Also cut out the baby foods for now until the issues are resolved. The AAP doesn't recommend solids and cereal anyways before 6 months (4 months only if baby has bad reflux or very low weight stuff). Take it very slowly.

@ crissy: congratz :)

@ Evi: Thanks :) Yeah one fat baby, huh?

congrats to all the new aunties. My poor sister is waiting for her 3rd girl, she is past her due date already, she went the full 42 weeks with the other two and had to be induced. She's a trooper, she did both births natural without painkiller, even though she had 9lbs babies.

@jewellyn: rice in general is constipating. If you still insist on feeding her cereal, switch to barley or oatmeal, you also may want to try prunes (babyfood) until she has a bm. If she is already having a bad reaction from the foods, I would stop using it for a while. A lot of pediatricians recommend solids from 4 months + up, but a lot of babies are just not ready. I think each baby should be introduced to solid foods at his/her own pace. Ben showed a big interest in everything we ate from about 4 months, I still waited until he was around 6 months old to have his first food. I started with carrot/banana babyfood.

I don't think cereal in general is worthless (especially for older infants), there are brands that have added dha and vitamins aside from the iron. The brain needs certain nutrients in order to develop and not every mother has an adequate milk supply to meet these needs past 6 months. Check out happy bellies organic baby-cereals, they are very affordable and you can easily mix them with fruit/veggies. You can buy them at wholefoods or babies r us.

Thank you very much for all replies. I now have learned new things. It just worries me too much whenever I see my daughter in pain.

I also called her doctor and a nurse called me to give some instructions in case this thing happens.

@ Give baby a warm bath with baking soda

@ Place warm compress on rectal area

@ When baby's straining, bend baby's knees to her chest to help her push

@ Supository (use once only) by placing baby on her stomach, place some water on tip of supository and put inside rectum (it's about 1 1/2 inches long)

@@@ AVOID BRAT (banana, rice, apple, toast) those are only used if baby's having diarrhea

@@@ GIVE baby food with high in fiber

Again, thanks a lot. :-) Hope she'll feel better, soon.

Indeed lots of babies....My twin sister is currently 5 days past due and waiting on baby Rowan to make his appearance. She goes in tuesday for an appt and if nothing, she will be induced, baby is estimated via ultrasound at 9lbs 4oz and that was last week. My poor sister..

Congrats on all the new babies

Zaid has been cranky lately and refuses to eat many foods, I can really only get him to eat pancakes and spaghetti noodles. He is DONE with the gerber toddler meals, bananas, and everything else he use to love. Tonight im going to make some super thick homemade chicken soup with egg noodles and all kinds of veggies. i will freeze some and bring it every other day or so to day care, looks like im going to have to start preparing 2 meals a day. With all zaids allergies i cant give him most of the stuff we eat. Boy oh Boy, like im not busy enough.

My niece is getting christened today and I am the godmother. Gotta be at the church in about 2 hours. After the party I ahve to write my final paper for my summer course. God willing I can get it done in a few hours, I dont know why I procrastinated so bad..blaa

@Vi: Have you tried protein shakes? I like muscle milk (it tastes really good!)

I was thinking about the whole due date deal...our baby has measured consistently 1 to 2 weeks bigger since the first ultrasound. My midwife mentioned this on my last appointment, thinking about bumping up my due date to 2 weeks earlier. When I mentioned that we are pretty confident about the conception date since we were charting when we became pregnant, she said that we would keep the original due date (Sept 14) and it is probably just a big baby.

I'm wondering what would have happened to us had we not been charting...maybe we would have ended up considered "overdue" without actually being so, being induced and all that jazz.

Anybody know why here they use U/S to determine the due date, instead of early HCG levels? It seems to me that the ultrasound is so inaccurate for weight and size of the baby, and early HGC levels are much more accurate.

I'm rambling

My back hurts!

Caro
