Thanks everybody!

I'm not worried about the number of movements, he is moving all the time, making my belly look like I have a little alien  but just thought it was interesting that he now moves more rather than kick. I'm not doing kick counts because honestly, I would become obsessed! I know that some variations are normal because after all, they are already little persons and they have their energetic days and lazy days like we all do :) .

@Caybee: yay! I hope it helps! I've started crawling too and my young dog gets so excited that I'm at her eye level and follows me around trying to lick my face

Our baby becomes more active with the cold as well, I'm eating a lot of Popsicles because of the heat (only 35 calories and ads to my water intake, yay!) and Sebas starts jumping up and down

@Nessa: Good luck with introducing solids! i've read that it's best to introduce them at 6 months as well

Saludos,

Caro

Nessa, forget about the cereal it has no nutritional value, has no vitamins etc. just some iron that baby's body can hardly even absob.

Basically you could start at 4 months but the WHO recommends 6 months. I have posted the Dr. Sears Article on gut closure here before which describes the stages where baby's gut closes its gaps to not let 'dangerous' substances that might lead to allergies later on through into the bloodstream. the allergies are not going to happen right away but later in life when baby eats the same stuff again.

check out this website, it's my babyfood bible: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/

Also, I would make sure to check for signs of readiness to eat. There's nothing worse (I think) than a mom who has to tilt baby back in order for it to actually keep food in the mouth while baby is desperately trying to shove it back out with the tongue.

I agree with Eveline. 4 months cereal is only recommended if baby is suffering from really bad reflux. I also think it's horrible how parents try to force their non-food-ready kids to eat them. Dr Sears has great advice and lists signs of readiness for food (loss of tongue thrust reflex, pincer grasp, actively reaching for foods).

Unfortunately, many pediatricians are not up to date on recent recommendations. The military ped in Vandenberg was ok and said don't feed your baby before 6 months. I have heard though of many old-school peds who even tell parents to feed their 2 months old babies... Very outdated and dangerous advice. The NP we are seeing at our new base didn't bat an eye when he heard that Jona barely eats solids... He thinks it's wonderful that he mostly nurses and we don't intend to stop that. :star:

My ped never pressured me into making Allie eat. She just keeps giving me the thumbs up on nursing and asks how much she eats a day. Obviously Allie is very well nourished (as is jona from what I can see :)) so there's no concern.

Not sure if you do this in Brazil too Nessa, but in Argentina a common thing to get babies started on solids is a mix of milk with a few teaspoons of maizena, heat it stirring continuously until it thickens (kind of yogurt consistency), and let it cool down before you give it to the baby. It's basically all milk, just a little thicker and the maizena adds a few calories. It seems to be a good transition food

Caro@ que linda barriguita, Loving the belly! :luv: .

Our Dr. told us to start with cereal when Sofia is 4 tmonhs, that will be this Sunday the 19th, but I think we will wait a little longer. She slept last night from 12.30am until 8am this morning, was playing for a little while and back to sleeep from 9.30-12.30 not bad at all, right now she is awake and my poor thing is melting with me. Yesterday we went to the pool and had a great time, she loves the water.

Girls, Ihave a question, hope I don't make anyone uncomfortable but is just curiosity, please don't get mad at me. Why is that some of you never show their faces in the pics??? please, please is just curiosity.

Nessa@ I just met this mommy who lives just 3 blocks from my house, her name is Tati and is from Natale (did I spell it right?) when I met her I inmediately think about you, we super connected and now we see each other almost everyday, her son is 7 months and we say that is Sofia's bf. I love when she speaks portuguese to her son.

Gotta go girls, have a good one

Nessa: The pediatrician told me to start at 4 months. My family is very old school and were pressuring me to start LONG before then. We were really irregular at first (like once every 3 days). Around five months I started twice a day solids at a scheduled time. It was then that they really took to it. Zak very quickly started to open his mouth like a baby bird when he just saw the spoon. Hana will sing through her meal if she really likes it (like sweet potatoes). We tried cereal and they HATED it. My mom didn't believe me until she saw it for herself. It doesn't matter the type of grain or what it is mixed with. They really hate it. At their last appointment, the pediatrician told me to try it again a few times with them because they both could stand to have the extra calories. Also, he said he suggests to start yogurt at 6 months and meats at 7 months. But...it is funny. You could go to another pediatrician who feels totally different. I am just going by what my kids seem to be saying to me. They always try to reach in my plate if it is near and get this horrible expression on their face if they see you eating and they are not. It is too bad babies don't come with their own owner's manual!

Vi, I think alot of people are hesitant to post pics bc some crazy journalist bit*h came on this website and stole pictures and wrote horrible stories about people. I was actually a victim, she took a pic i had of me and sofyan and wrote horrible things about us. I dont care personally but I know some did. I still post pics of us and continue to do so. lol

about the cereal and starting solids, we started when zaid was ready, which was about 4 months. He knew exactly what to do with the spoon, etc. The desire for him was there, he would stare when we were eating. On the other hand, I have a friend whose daughter is 8 months old and still doesnt eat solids. She doesnt even know how to bring her tongue backwards and spits everything out. Every baby comes at their own time and trust me when I say you will know exactly when its time to start.

Good to hear Sofia is sleeping more!

Regarding the pics, the reason why I do it on my belly pics is

I'm actually cutting off the boobs. I don't want a close up of them in a public forum. Silly, I know...

 . I'll show my face on other pics though. My profile pic has a picture of both Justin and me

@ Vi - I've been on VJ since 2006. It was my first time on a forum. I was extremely paranoid at first about concealing my identity because of what I do for a living. I'm a psychotherapist and I need to maintain personal privacy (for my peace of mind :)). It's hard enough maintaining that here, because I live in a really small town. It is only recently that I have relaxed a little and I posted a link to pics of us at the zoo (that included me and hubby). Y'all should feel honored that I trust you guys to let you see my face

We took Declan to the first fair of the season today. It was great! They had a petting zoo, and he was enthralled by the baby ducks and goats. He also liked the horse pull. He rode several rides and absolutely adored the carousel. It was so cute. When we first got on, and we had to wait for others to get on before the ride could start, he started shaking the horse and looking at it and then me, like ... why is it not moving?

We also learned that he loves fried dough, just like I do. That is my "oh-so-bad-for-me-but sooooo-yummy" splurge at fairs. I got one for me and gave him a little bite, just to see. Well, he ended up eating so much of it, I had to get another one for me!!!

Vi: Just like Kelly, I was also the victim of the shrew who went into one of the forums here and took pics and whatever we may had posted and had a field day. So...no pics of DH or myself in certain places. So, per request of my DH, very few pics online. He even hates I have Hana and Zak's pics up in my sig. Too bad...they are cute and I love looking at them. I told him he'll have to deal with FB, because that is how my family and friends around the country keep up.
