We want 3-4 spanned out over the next 7 years. I would like to try again soon, but not sure if we will, I want to finish school, be settled in my own branch, and OWN a house. House and Branch will happen within the next 6 months so If i can somehow manage to balance school, work, and another baby, we shall see. Only time will tell

What do your babies call or will they call your parents/in-laws? My mom doesn't like "grandma" so she wants to be called "nonna" (grandma in italian, which is a little strange to me considering she doesn't even speak italian, but it's her name so she gets to pick).

When I asked my parents what they want to be called, my mom said she wanted the baby to choose her name himself. My sister told her her name might turn out to be Pththththththp.

I'm the USC.

Here is a great example of babies choosing names. My best friend growing up was the first grandchild to her grandparents and they were called (and still are, by all of their other grandchildren as well) Lots-a-momma and Lots-a-papa, because they did so much that they were a LOT of momma and a LOT of papa!

I always thought that was really cute and people always used to ask why she called them that.

@ Stef - We had initially thought we would start trying for another baby when Declan turned a year. I am 34, so not feeling so much of the pressure to have another one soon, but hubby is 45 and his biological clock is ticking!

Due to our financial situation right now, with him being out of work, it would be totally irresponsible to try right now, so we are holding off until our situation changes (hopefully soon!!!)

@ Jenn - My mom thought Declan would know her as "Gram", which was what I called my grandmother (her mother). But when I started referring to her as "Gram", it felt weird for us both and reminded us too much of my grandmother and was not a special name for my mom. So, my mom became Grandma or Grandma with the Funny Glasses (that my son likes to pull on and bend!). Her husband is Poppy and my father is Grandpa. My husband's parents are also Grandma and Grandpa, because that is what their other grandchildren call them. Considering I have the most bizarre nicknames for Declan and my cat, the grandparent names are quite tame, even boring.

@caro: my favorite blanket is kiddopotamus swaddleme adjustable blanket. it has this part attached to it that you can use to swaddle or you can take it off and wear as a sleepsack. Ben doesn't really like to be swaddle all the way, i leave his arms out, unless he's very sleepy then he doesn't care. And usually if he's all swaddled when he wakes up he moves a lot until he manages to get his arms out lol

here's an example of how he likes:

Bensleepingswaddled007.jpg

about having kids. We won't have more kids. Charles has a 20 year old and he didn't want more kids because he thinks he's too old and he won't be able to enjoy his child as much as he would if he was younger. I understand him but since I wanted kids, we agreed in having 1.

we can afford more, but we enjoy our lifestyle. 2 children wouldn't be that bad, we'd have to give up on some luxury, but with 3 all of my paycheck would go to childcare. we also plan on going to Brazil every other year, so yeah, 1 child is more than enough.

We had thought of having only one kid. So when we found out we were pregnant with twins, we made the agreement if I had a c-section, I would get a tubal ligation. If not, he would get a vasectomy. I told my husband he got lucky. It is funny, because after the drama of the last 8 weeks of the pregnancy, my family kept asking who was getting "fixed" as they could not go through the ride again.

As for grandparents, my kids only have one set of grandparents alive and a set of great-grandparents. We have Grammie and Grampie (names that my nieces have used). I don't know how the names for my grandparents came around. I was the first grandchild. I have always known them as Gram and Papa. Actually, my grandmother always has all of our friends call her Gram too!

@ Nessa: Ben looks really cute there. He started early to sleep on his side (well Jona was late since he was so big, hehehehe). I love to watch them sleep on their sides, looks so comfy and cute!

Grandparents: My dad is Opa and my mom is Omi (you sorta choose between Oma/Omi). My FIL is dead, so he only has a grandma in the US. She wants to be called nonna since she is technically 50% Italian, but pronounces it Italian. He also has a great-grandma, abuelita.

As for how many kids, DH wants 4, I want 3. 2 would be fine too. It is not so much a question of affording, we would be fine with flying once a year to Germany, for me it is a question whether I can manage. So I want to take it step by step and see what I can manage as I want to give each child appropriate attention. Some people are great at managing lots of kids, some don't. For now, I find a baby/soon to be toddler quite exhausting, yet fun. I couldn't imagine having another one in the house now. Though I strongly believe that you always find a way to manage. I'd just rather plan it out and have a hand on when and where ;)

We call my mother Grammy, as that is how she prefers to be referred to. My MIL is Argentine-Italian and she likes to be called "Nonni" and she calls my FIL "Nonno". My sister's kids refer to my MIL as "Grammy Maria", because as she puts it, "One can never have too many grammies." :D

I put him on his back, but he rolled over. But I've been putting him to sleep on his side since he was little. at first on a sleep positioner. i kept reading that sleeping on their tummy is dangerous because of asfixiation. sleeping on their back is dangerous because of choking. Since there's no danger in sleep on their side, i just put him to sleep like that, although i don't really think those other positions are dangerous.

That sleeping picture is very cute!! He looks cuddly.

We aren't sure still about more kids. We planned on two, but now we are still wondering if or when we will have a 2nd. I want Kavi to have a bro or sis, but the lack of good sleep for over a year and being away from family right now(my parents moved last year, his parents in India) makes it hard to imagine handling it all. If we do have a 2nd baby, we might wait until Kavi is 3 or something. It's still up in the air.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)
