My morning sickness didn't start until about 7-8 weeks along. It lasted until about 16/17 weeks.

Here's a video of Kavi if anyone wants to see. His hair is a bit messy from being outside in the Florida humidity. :P We were blowing bubbles in the front porch. btw Kavi makes funny grumbly sounds, and Suj repeats it if you wonder what that was haha.

@autum: OMG I totally confused Declan with Kavi.... haha, he is so cute!! That tatoo is so cool. I can't believe how much hair he has!

@Jamie: congratulations!

ok finally I can say I see some light at the end of the tunnel with Ben's sleeping.... We went to the pool all afternoon yesterday and he must have been so tired, he passed out at 5:30, the minute we walked through the door. He slept until 8 ( I woke him up to give him a bath and dinner), but he didn't want to eat and I thought, great its going to be a long night. Went to bed at 11pm again and slept til 3:30am!! Then in our bed until 6 am. That's the best night he had in the past 8 months. I'm ecstatic.

 @confusing the two!

Kavi's sleeping has also gotten better over time. It's not perfect, but getting better. :)

Hey everyone - hope you had a good weekend! :luv:

Love all the pics and videos...your kids are just sooooo cute :D

I have a question for the BF'ing mothers - when did you buy your supplies? Nursing pads, bras etc? I can't imagine that I will know what size bra to buy until my milk comes in but who wants to go shopping after you have a baby? I am also thinking about doing cloth nursing pads - anyone use those? What kind of nursing tops have worked best for you? Sorry for all the questions...thanks for any insight :D

Oh and CONGRATS Jamie

here's the nursing bra that i have and love:

pTRU1-2865881reg.jpg

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2320109

i bought a few weeks before he was born. your breasts won't get too bigger than iit is in the last couple of months, plus, it's not a tight bra, just look at the chart and buy the one that will fit you in the last weeks of pregnancy, keeping in mind when your breasts are full they'll be a bit bigger than that. i'm a size D and I bought the Large one.

Nursing pads: i bought 3 types. Medela disposable nursing pad (didn't like, maybe because it was thin) ; Lansinoh disposable ultra thin nursing pad (love it) and gerber disposable thin nursing pad (doesn't have the glue thingy to keep in place, so didn't like it that much) .

@ Yaads: I use Lansinoh breastpads, they rock. I tried Gerber and Avent but they are either leaking or really big (Avent is like huge). I have several nursing bras from Motherhood Maternity: white, black, pink, padded, sports bra etc. They are reasonably priced. Rule of thumb is one size up in cup and underwire size; e.g. I was a 32C, my first nursing bras were a 34D. I now wear 34C as I am not engorged anymore.

I have cloth nursing pads and like them, but only had 6 and that is too little for the first weeks.

As nipple cream for those first days I used pure lanolin. I have a Medela Swing breast pump (single electric) which I bought at Target. It was a big help when I was really engorged.

Yaads, here's my two cents: wait to see if you can breastfeed before you buy anything. Why? Because I had the whole kit and kaboodle and couldn't breast feed to save my life. Baby didn't want my #######, so I pumped for more than a month and finally had to give it up because it just didn't work out. Sadly, I had more than $150 invested in everything. It was a bummer. You can always buy your stuff after baby is born. I did love the Lansinoh breastpads - they rocked!

Oh one big thing: make sure there is a good lactation consultant (pref. IBCLC) available to help you. Many initial nursing problems are easily resolved with their help. I loved mine!

@autum and Christina: love the pictures and the videos. Sorry for confusing the too, but they do have one thing in common, they are too cute!! :luv:

@Yaads: I bought 2 nursing bras before giving birth (one size bigger) and ended up going bra shopping after I got finally released from the hospital, wheelchair, crying baby, nervous husband and all in tow. They just didn't fit. I went from a size B to D overnight. Later I bought the same one Nessa has, but I must say I don't like it much because it is very thin and you can see the breast pads through (even the thin lansinoh/Medela). It is also not a very good bra if you are very engorged, you want more support. It has worked great for the night though. I would get a cheap bra from walmart (they have maternity bras) about 1 size bigger than a few weeks to your due date and then go shopping after giving birth.

So after one year of the nursing bra ugliness Hubby took me shopping to Victorias Secret the other night.

@Kelly: aww you got so much on your plate. I can relate with going to school, it is very tough, regardless of how many classes you're taking. And then work and a baby on top of that... Is there any chance that you can either cut back on work or school?

I agree with the boy theory, Ben is such a toddler now, not a little baby anyore.. still not really walking yet though... We took him to the lead and iron test today. he didn't cry at all when they pricked him, just said "'ouch, baaaa- boyyyy" to the guy. haha

Hi mommies :)

Good tip about the lansinoh pads. I'll keep that in mind

Here's a big question for you all: what's your choice for covering/ wrapping your baby to sleep?

*swaddling

*sleepsack

*light blanket tucked in at the foot of the crib without letting it reach past baby's chest

*no covering, just sleepers

Saludos,

Caro

Not there yet, but since it will be so hot here when he arrives, I'm not planning on putting anything on him but a sleeper in the beginning, unless he seems more relaxed when he's swaddled. I have a couple of 3-6-mo sleepsacks for later though.

@ Yaads - I agree with Staashi not to buy a whole bunch of supplies at first. I too was so committed to nursing, but struggled for so long. Hopefully, that won't happen to you. I did really like the Lansinoh breastpads. I had a Medela dual electric pump and it was fabulous for the time I used it.

@ Caro - I am a fan of sleepsacks. For us, it depended on the season and how warm / cold. I swaddled Declan when he was a newborn, but he stopped liking that right off. Then, I used the sleepsacks and, in winter, sleepers and sleepsacks combo. I did not want to use blankets, even tucked in, and got so mad at the daycare when they kept putting him to nap with a blanket.

My friend in my playgroup makes 'sleeppeapods', it's basically a sleepsack and swaddler in one. If I had known about it when I was pregnant I would have gotten one for Allie. Go to www.sleeppeapod.com

You basically stick baby in there, tie a knot in the bottom (so it always fits and doesn't get too short since you regulate the length) and that is it. Inside is a little pocket so baby can't get the arms out but at the same time the baby is not restricted to be laying in only one position with its arms on the side like they do when they stick inside a swaddler. It is actually a great idea and I wonder why nobody else thought of it before.
