Ah, the apricot mush reminded me of something. I know some of us are USCs and some are not, but have you been surprised by anything your spouse or an in-law has suggested feeding your child? My husband told me that back home, they will tie dates up in cloth and give them to the babies to chew on. Sounds kind of good :) I've seen some little contraptions that look like mesh bags to put fruit in for chewing, but I haven't heard how safe they are. Has anyone used them?

have they also told you about the sunnah for newborns, called tahneek? we just put a tiny, tiny piece of mashed up date in ayah's mouth when she was born, after my husband whispered the adhan into her ear.

I put grapes, blueberries, strawberries in them, sometimes a small ice cube, he loved rubbing it on his gums. Also put an icecube in a washcloth and tie a rubber-band around the ice-cube (very tight), that's a great teether.

@Kelly: ugh, I am so glad I didn't have sciatica pain. Did it bother you after giving birth or did it stop?

I had some sciatica pain in the last two weeks or so, not too bad but definetely there and it was bugging me. After Allie was born it took a few weeks until it was completely gone.

I wet down little baby washcloths and then put them in the freezer for Allie to chew on.

I don't like round ligament pain! :crying:

(F) @ Jenn!

I second that. I'm also not too fond of feeling like my pelvis is pulling apart at the seams when I get up from a chair and take a few steps.

Yeah, round ligament pain is not fun! I got scared when I experienced it too. Sit back, drink lots of water and relax :star: For back pain, it really helps me doing pelvic rocking

I got back from my 28 weeks appointment today. Measuring 29w, up 24 lbs  . Blood pressure is good, and I got my glucose test, but I still have to wait for the results. Sebas gave the midwife a nice strong kick while she was listening to the heart beat, which surprised her and made her laugh :)

Saludos,

Caro

Need some advice. So my baby is a pretty calm baby. Rarely cries, just when hungry or sleepy usually. Today Its the complete 180. Hes crying (almost screaming) non stop. Pretty much the only time he will stop crying is when his mother is holding and rocking him, in which he falls asleep. As soon as she puts him down somewhere he wakes up screaming and crying. I don't know whats going on, and why so sudden. Could he be overstimulated for the way more attention hes been getting from my friends and family all playing with him, picking him up, etc. Or maybe hes just growing fast (he seems to aquire new things suddenly. One day he never smiled to always smiling. Then he went from not making any noises to trying to talk like crazy). Is it something serious? Could he have suddenly gotten colic at 2 months? I have a feeling no sleep tonight.

@ Eric - I would call your pediatrician and explain what is going on. They can give you advice whether to come in or not. When my son was newborn and I had concerns about a change in behavior, I would call the nurse line at the doctor's office. They were always helpful.

I knew about whispering the adhan into his ear, but I hadn't heard about the date part. I'll ask my husband about it. Thank you!

The thing about the bananas is so true. :( Put it through the dishwasher multiple times, after scrubbing with sponge and even fingers!! Brown nastiness no matter what!! And yeah, ended up in the garbage.

Okay, I showed my husband a picture of the mesh bags last night and told him no bananas! He'll be making avocado and banana smoothies for the kid as soon as he's ready anyway.

@ chemaatah I've just read briefly about the tahneek, and as I understand it, the sugar from the tiny bit of the mashed date acts as an analgesic, among other things. Did you have any difficulty explaining to your doctors what you were doing at the time, and was it in your birthing plan? I hadn't heard of having the newborn ingest much other than breast milk or formula, although I remember someone posting about sugar water on a paci before circumcision, so I wouldn't think this tiny bit would alarm anyone since it's essentially sugar, but if I need to talk with someone ahead of time, I want to be prepared for that. Thank you!

@Eric: hope Roland feels better! It might be overstimulation, or even a little bit of colic. (that usually occurs during the late afternoon hours). Did you check his temperature? maybe he is just not feeling right. I agree, call the pedi if something doesn't feel right, it usually isn't. My pedi always has us come in, I guess mostly to make us feel better.. haha. But he always says 'better safe than sorry'.

@Christina: I love the pic of Kavi, so cute!
