I've had bad experiences as a child with strangers and family members so I have major trust issues when it comes to who will babysit my baby when I'm gone  - don't work but might start on my getting my pharmacy license here. I can't find myself getting a nanny or doing day care at all. So I've already told hubby we have to move closer to MIL she's the only one I can trust with my baby so far.

MARM- that's such a tragic story!! I wouldn't be able to get over it :crying: I hope she finds peace one day.

MARM (F)

Yesterday was my first day at home by myself with the baby, it was ok, except for the crazy rain.

Mom got home safely, I spoke to her yesterday twice and today, she got a little sad when she saw the baby on Skype.

Girls I have a question for all of you. . We all know that babies are not suppoused to sleep on their tummies but is the only way how my baby will sleep, she never sleeps on her back, she hates it. She is three months already and she can move her head from side to side. When my mom was here she was surprised when I told her about not letting the baby sleeping on her belly and she said that things were different when she was raising us. The point is that my baby is sleeping very well on her belly, am I being super irresponsible?

Please give a big hug to your hubbies, Happy Father's day to all of them!

Vi, you are not super-irresponsible. If your baby sleeps only on her belly and as long as there is not suffocation hazard (blankets, stuffed animals, pillows or even a bumper) in the way, I'd let her sleep on her belly. Babies aged 2 months - 6 months (actually until 12 months but after 6 moths they usually start rolling around so you can't keep them on their back no more) are apparently in higher risk to die of SIDS when they sleep on their belly. the US started the 'back to sleep' campaign a few years back because it is proven to reduce SIDS in those young babies. As soon as they can roll from back to belly or belly to back there's no way you can make a baby sleep on their back.

Also baby sleeping in their parent's bedroom never go into a very deep sleep. they always stay somewhat aroused, again, lowering the risk of SIDS.

If Sofia sleeps good on her belly I'd let her sleep like that, given she has her head and nose all the way on one side and not pushed into the mattress. Allie did that for a while and it freaked me out.

I'm sure you are doing a great job as a first time mom. Good luck. Hugs to you

@vi: i agree with eveline. you're not irresponsible, babies used to sleep in their tummies in the past, before they decided that sleep on their back was safer. Back when i was a baby my mom wouldn't let me sleep on my back because she heard this story where the baby threw up and choked on its puke and died. there's always some horror story for everything, you should do what works for your baby.

the other day I was bored, watching tv and there was nothing good on, so i wacthed this true hollywood story about cult, religion and mind control. One of the stories made me cringe.

This woman was living with this religious people and they're those people thatwant everything to be natural, no outside interference, etc and she had a baby that was 1 year old and the the people there told her she was not supposed to feed the baby anything other than breastmilk. But she hasn't breastfed the baby for months, and her breasts were empty, she didn't have milk anymore. She kept giving the baby her breast. The baby got to a point where he was chewing so bad on her breasts trying to feed that it was bleeding, and she knew the baby wasn't getting anything out of it, she gave him water one day and they found out and told her she wasn't allowed to do it anymore. After 51 days the baby died.

Eveline@ thanks for the info, I feel better... She is finally sleeping on her crib, well last night was her fist night and was great! right now she is taking a nap next to her daddy (sleeping on her belly)

Nessa@ That's exactly what I'm talking about, my mom said exactly the same thing, "what if the baby throws up? she will choke!". How does Ben sleep?

he sleeps on his back now. i was using a sleep positioner and was putting him to sleep on his side, which i think it's the safer position. but he started to move so much i don't think i'll be using it anymore. for the past week and a half he's been sleeping in his car seat because of his reflux. when he wants to sleep he'll sleep in whatever position he wants.

@Nessa: I was thinking about that story this morning for whatever reason. I was shocked when I saw it on TV...The mom even wrote a diary about that kid dying...so sad.

@Vi: I think it is very unlikely that she would choke on her vomit when laying on her back. Allie actually threw up the other night, she was on her back and she turned her head to the side, very first thing so that everything can run out. That choking when vomiting thing is a little outdated but I guess it does happen after all. Like Nessa said, there's always a horror story to everything.
