Vi, we took zaid to the beach when he was 3 months. We brought his bouncer and put a beach umbrella over him. he loved the fresh air and sitting in the shore in our lap. We also took him swimming numerous times. Just LOTS of sunscreen and maybe a uv protective swimsuit, and of course a huge cute floppy hat : )

Thx Stef. We like to spike his hair for special occasions lol.

I have taken the twins swimming when they were 4 months old and just took them to the beach yesterday (they are almost 5 months now). My pediatrician made sure he told me to avoid the sunscreen until they are at least 6 months old. He said to keep them out of the sun as much as possible. We have gotten UV swimshirts for both and big hats. For the short time they were out in the FL sun yesterday, they were ok. They LOVED the sand and by the end of the day I had to take them out into the ocean to get the sand that was all over them.

@vi: i would never take a young baby to a pool here in the states. in brazil when you go take swimming lessons or you go to a pool in a country club, for example, you need a medical examination, here anybody can go, god know what kind of diseases you can get in there. i'd take him to a beach, though.

@ Jenn - Congrats and welcome!!!

@ Kel - Awwww ..... good luck! I know you will survive. What are you in school for?

@ Vi - We took Declan to the beach at 2 months. Our pediatrician too told us to avoid sunscreen until they are 6 months, just keep him covered in loose, light clothing and a hat.

@ Darkhorse - I have Facebook and several people from Baby Corner are on mine as friends, so I would be happy to add you. You Baby Corner ladies should feel honored, since normally I am so paranoid about people on the Internet knowing my real name!!! LOL

And no Charles, I too don't play Mafia Wars, etc. I have no time for all that stuff :)

Swimming: We have been to the beach, but Pismo Beach isn't warm enough to swim, so Jona just looked at everything. We haven't been to a pool yet. I dislike chlorine for my skin and for sure for JOna's. The local pool on base however uses oxygen as sanitation system which is better for your skin. I might take him here, but he just started to not hate bathing... He is not into h2o yet

Adam was at the pool at 3 months, Allie was in a pool at 8 months. We took both kids to the beach pretty early on. My ped said to ALWAYS use sunscreen, no matter how young the baby, as long as you use good babysunblock. I rather avoid another sunburn.

Ben's feet were in the pool when he was 4 months old and we had 100 degrees, it was so hot and he loved the cold water. I was concerned about the chlorine so I only let his feet go in the water. I'm not so sure about sunscreen, my pedi said 6 months and up is safe, any baby younger than that should not be in the sun in the first place. I know it's kind of hard for people who live in a warm area. We use sunscreen on him now and he has been swimming in the pool with no problem.

I am on facebook too!
