Ilyas just got his first tooth--at just about 9 months. It wasn't too awful--he was a little more fussy and wants to bite everything in site (and now it HURTS with that little tooth! ). No fever, no diaper rash, no extra drooling...maybe the molars coming in will be more dramatic?

Nessa,

Maybe this is awful to say, but I wonder if you would have less diaper rash if you used disposables?

Ilyas was also a big pooper (maybe 10-12 times a day when he was a little dude) and rarely even had a red butt--never a rash. Disposables do keep babies really dry...

BTW, I'm still breastfeeding at night--no bites yet, thank goodness!

I bf Adam until he was 13 months. He had about 10 teeth by then..no biting. Allie has two teeth at 9 months, she did bite a couple of times but that is because she is teething and sick, she can't breathe through her nose so she kinda holds on to the nipple when she breathes through the mouth.

Nessa, have you had ben checked for Thrush? http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/t083100.asp With the rash not going away it almost sounds like he has a yeast infection. I would keep him diaper free for as long as you can or really switch to sposies for a little while.

when the rash started i was using prefolded cloth diapers. it was keeping him extremely wet, so i switched to disposables, didn't go away. now i'm using pocket cloth, that keeps him as dry as disposable. i've used yeast infection treatment cream, didn't work. a+d, butt paste, desitin, 123, nothing. the doctor told me to bathe him daily, let it soak, then let him without diaper for a while. the thing abot that is that it is not warm enough to keep him in the water or pantless for a prolonged amount of time. i don't want him to get a cold, n between a diaper radhh n a cold, i'll take the diaper rash.

Nessa, did Ben ever get any antibiotics? I don't remember you saying anything so I'm assuming not but if he did then maybe that's what makes his poopoo so harsh on his skin. I understand that you don't want to leave him without clothes for too long. Do you have a wool longie or something to put over the diaper? That still lets his skin breathe rather than the PUL that holds the moisture in quite a bit. Have you looked in his mouth for signs of thrush? If he does have it and you nurse then you are just giving it back and forth and thrush and rash go hand in hand so I'd rather check for signs and rule that out. Good luck, hope that nasty rash will go away soon.

@Chrissy: congratulations on little Molly!!

@Kelly: hope Zaid is feeling better. poor guy.

@autum: cool pics! Ben dove headfirst into his cake, looks like Declan loved his too. :P

@Nessa: awww Ben is so adorable! I ike the pic where he wears the screamer bib. haha. hope you get the day care situation straightened out.

@Evi: yay for going potty and giving up the pacifier!! What a big boy he is! So proud of him.

we ended up taking Ben to the ER a few times during the last week. He had a high fever after his shots and started coughing. They told us that we were dressing him too warm and that he has a stomach bug. We were instructed to give him crackers and soda  and that he wasn't allowed any alcohol. ####### . He had no diarrhea, stomach aches, anything, it was just a convenient diagnose for them. the next morning he was coughing so bad he could hardly breath. We rushed him to the pedi office and his airways were so swollen that they gave him steroid injections. He was pretty bad for a week, he wasn't even interested in playing at all. On top of that I had finals all week. He is doing a lot better now and even his constipation got a little better. I guess colace+miralax+little tummy's is doing the trick.

thank you for reading :luv: . He actually did his big business on the potty today too. I think he's getting the hang of it and if this is how potty training goes...it's really not that hard .I guess you really just have to wait until they are ready and not push it on them.

Glad to see that Ben is getting better. It sucks that the people at the hospital just kinda brushed your problems off. It scares me to death to think that I have to go to the ER with either one of my kids one day and just sit there for HOURS. Eric saw a little kid at the ER in our hospital. That little boy had seizures and nobody really cared until he (Eric, that is) eventually went to get a nurse and then (when the little boy's eyes were rolling back) they finally realized just how much of an emergency it was.

Hey all!All the babies are so cute, love to see the pics.I dont post much here, dit it once, but love to read this thread.I have a boy that is turning one next week!I have a question, how many shots do they get on their one year check up?I was checking his records and he is getting 4!Is that right?I am guessing they are giving the shots he was supposed to get with 15 months, all at once and I am not happy about that.

Eveline,I hear u on being scared to take your kids to the ER,that scares me a lot too...I am on my third pediatrician now...the first 2 screwed (sp?) up and I wanted to change, they misdiagnosed him twice. When I went to my country last month ,I had him checked there, just to make sure everything was okay.

Hope u all have a good week!

aleramsey: congrats to your little boy turnng one!! Regarding the shots- they will probably give him booster shots and the big MMR. If you are uncomfortable with this, speak to your pediatrician. Any good doctor nowadays is open to delayed shcedules. My practice does that as a routine. Instead of 4-8 shots they do one or two each month, the hepatitis shots are postponed until he is older. For the MMR- most doctors do this after they turn one. The recommended period is between 12-16 months I believe, but there is a lot of controversy regarding the MMR (autism, side effects etc).

MMR used to be available in single doses but they don't produce them anymore. So you basically have to bite the bullet and either give him the shot or delay. There have been a few measles outbreaks lately due to the autism scare and parents who don't vaccinate their children anymore because they are concerned about the safety of the vaccines.

My son starts pre-school in the fall so he will need the basic shots, but I will only let them give him one at a time.

@Evi: wow, I can't believe he is getting so big... that's a major milestone. My mom bought Ben a potty, but I am not going to let him use it until he walks and is a little older. He has no clue what it is. For now, he uses it as a snack bowl.

The hospital is supposed to be the best in our area. Lets keep our fingers crossed that we never have to go there again. They sent me a survey letter to rate my experience. I can't wait to fill it out. I have all their names. lol

Girls...

Nessa@ Hope Ben starts to feel better soon, hopefully the new medicine works for him, we've tried different kinds of creams and the only one we love is A+D. What about the daycare???

Chrissy@ Where are you???? can't wait to see pics!!!!!!!!

Am I the only one watching baby programs like crazy?? I'm totally addicted to "A baby story", "Deliver me",Runaway Moms","Adoption stories" now that I'm home and I'm able to watch those programs I'm so into them.

Sofia 've been acting a little strange the past two days, she I've been breastfeeding her non stop, and always the same routine, feed her, burp her, put her to sleep and she wakes up 5 minutes later the only good think is that she is tired at nights and she is waking up just twice  . I realized that she likes to sleep facing down, not that she sleeps at nights facing down but when we are watching tv we put her in the bed with us (in between) facing down while I rubb her back to get a burp and she sleeps like an angel.

I'm going to CVS right now, so far the bottles that she has give her alot of gases so we want to try Dr.Browns, any comments about it??

Gotta go girls

yeah, well the incidence of autism in the US is 1 in 150, most of them boys. It has been proven that the MMR does not cause autism, yet a lot of mothers insist that their children started to show symptoms within a week of the MMR shot. There has also been controversy about thimerosal in vaccines, that was linked to autism. Most vaccines nowadays are made without thimerosal, yet it hasn't changed the autism rates.

Personally, I don't believe that a vaccine can cause autism, but there are 4 mothers in our neighborhood with severely autistic children (all boys) who insist that it was the vaccine. They were all normal before the shot, and are now special need kids.

One of them had the measles after the vaccine and almost died from complications after the shot, then became autistic. It is scary, but there aren't alternatives. You either give them the shot or you don't. I believe in spacing the vaccines and spreading them out altogether instead of giving them all within the first year. Back when I was a child no one even knew what autism was, and back then there weren't as many vaccines, that's why a lot of people link them with autism I guess.
