My poor little momma..she's so constipated. I took her to the doctor today after she'd cried on and off last night. She sucked down half a sippy cup with straight prune juice, I gave her some barley but still with no success. The doctor gave her a glyerin suppository, that helped a little bit but she is still in pain because her butt is so raw and her poop is somewhat firm.

I'm gonna go and get some baby acidophilus later today, hope that helps. I'll cut out any solids until she's pooping right again.

I had a little bit of a scare yesterday. I had some pain in my belly, it felt like I was being stretched from the inside, sideways. Past the "uncomfortable" feeling to were it was actually somewhat painful. I didn't know it it was normal or if I should go to the doctor, but the little guy was kicking me like mad so I figured he's ok so I'll just lay down, put my feet up and drink lots of water. After an hour it felt better, but didn't feel 100% until this morning. Anyone had this happened? how do I know when a pain is normal and when It merits a Sunday night visit to the hospital?

Caro

I had many instances where it felt like things were tearing and pulling, all your insides are getting moved around to help make space for a growing baby and a large uterus. I can remember times around 20 weeks where I had round ligament pain so bad it felt like the baby was coming out of me. Pain is inevitable with pregnancy unfortunately

can't relate, sorry caro.

I hope Allison gets better soon.

Today was my little guy's 1 month check up. He gained 20oz in 2 weeks (i guess they're supposed to gain between 0.5-1oz) so he's growing great. He's 9lbs 4oz and 22 inches long (i think he was 19'' 2 weeks ago).

Ben's one month? It seems like he was born yesterday! glad to hear he's growing nice and strong

Thanks :)

I called my midwife and she said that from everything I described, it was round ligament pain. I only need to take it easy for a few days and drink lots of water, call her if I get any cramping, if the pain does not get better if I lay down, or if I experience any nausea, dissines, vomiting, swelling, etc. I didn't have any pain today and Sebas is as active as ever, so that put my mind at ease.

Now for the vent...

I kept thinking what a difference between my midwife and my OBGYN. Early on my pregnancy we had a situation at work of a possible case of tuberculosis, with a person that I'm in contact with. worried, I called my OBGYN. I had to leave a message for her. About 4 hours later, I only got a call back from the nurse saying that I was protected with my vaccine, and not to worry. I pointed out to her that the tuberculosis vaccine does not protect against the adult respiratory version of tuberculosis (there is no vaccine for that). She kept saying that "I should still be good". Ok, sure  (ps: coworker turned out negative, so no worries)

When I called today to the birthing center, I got transferred to a midwife right away. There are a few on the center, but since the last midwife that saw me was available, they transferred me to her. She was so nice, introduced herself with her name, and added that she was the one that last saw me. Spent a good time with me asking me questions and making sure she had all the information, and lastly she was very reassuring and told me exactly what to do if this happens again. yay, I like them a lot :star:

Caro

@Caro: It really does sound like a mix of round ligament pain and maybe braxton hicks. Water is always good, just take it easy.

I cannot complain about the obgyn who was there for me when I was pregnant with Allie. He even called me on a Saturday from his vacation spot to cancel the c/section. I think, if I could do it all over again, I would go with a midwife (given that I didn't have the c/s scar).

Glad to see that you are doing better though.

As for Allie: She's better. I gave her some acidophilus in her food and she pooped a few times already. She's not crying no more and the consistency is more like breastfed poop again.

@ Eveline - Glad Allie is doing better.

@ Caro - It's good that you have a connection with your midwife. It is so important to trust the person who is going to deliver your baby. I think I would have been annoyed with your ob-gyn too. Luckily, I really loved my ob-gyn. He is very kind and compassionate. I live in a rural area and there are only 2 ob-gyns in town, who cover for each other. The other doc is good too, but I was really connected to my doc. Well, last year, he was only going to be out of the office for one day in May and, since it was 3 weeks before my due date, I didn't worry too much ... until my water broke the night before the doc was due to be on a vacation day. Luckily though, he was just taking a vacation day at home and he came in and delivered my baby. I appreciate that so much.

@ Nessa - Way to go Ben!!! I can't believe he is 1 month already. Post new pics of him :)

Declan had his year check today. He is doing great, except that he has yet another ear infection. The doc wants to see him back in 10 days and will assess whether to refer him to an ENT.

The doctor's office has changed their system of growth percentiles ... apparently, they do them on the computer now which is more accurate than before, but makes for some very detailed numbers. For instance, Declan is now in the 38.02% for weight, 97.86% for height and 69.13% for head circumference :)

@ Evi: I'm glad Allie is doing better!

@ Nessa: He's growing like Jona back then... He was about 9 pounds at one month, at 15 pounds at 2 months... It just kept coming ;)

@ Caro: Your midwife/birth center sounds wonderful. I would never go with an obgyn again. I had 4 different obgyns throughout pregnancy (change of health plan, then moving, what a disaster I know). One was decent in the Bay Area respecting natural birth, all the others ridiculed it and were just plain rude and arrogant). Most of the doctors hated that I researched the issue of birth, had a birth plan and that my husband and I refused things they tried to push on us. We will never use an obgyn for pregnancy again, we even decided on homebirth for our subsequent babies (provided it's gonna be low-risk again). I think obgyns are great choices if you have a high risk pregnancy, issues, something is wrong, needs c-section etc. or if you are ok with the obgyb-type of care.

Hi ladies,

Been a while since I've been on here and cannot believe how time flies!!

Caro - I've had similar pain to you when I was around 20 weeks which had me all paranoid as well but ended up finding out that it was indeed, round ligament pain!

Also, I had a scare earlier last week. On monday night I arrived late from a work function and was stressing out all day, didnt get to sleep until about 1am. Went to the bathroom at 2:30am and noticed A SINGLE spot (little smaller than a dime piece) of blood when I wiped. I got to bed all nervous as I had spotted during the earlier stages of my pregnancy, about 8 weeks. The next day at work, went to the bathroom and when i wiped it happened again..but id wipe over and over to check if there was more but just one single spot of blood. So I called my OB and advised him of this and he told me to come in that afternoon. I mentioned that the baby's moving very often so I was concerned that it was me. I left work straight away and as soon as I got there he did an examination and he said that there was no sign of bleeding so he suggested that it must be a minor blood vessel rupture and not to worry  ...He checked the baby and little man is doing fine in there :)

Straight after seeing him I went for my glucose test and the next day I found out that my sugar level was "way too high"..so now ive been put on a high carb diet for three days and I now have my formal glucose tolerance test tomorrow morning. Im so nervous about this and I hope it all goes well!

Glad to see that your little man is doing fine. Do you have any way of taking it a little easier? All that stress can't be good neither for you, nor the baby. Sorry that you have to change your diet, that's probably not easy, not in a pregnancy and I hope that you can manage it all. Good luck to you, keep us updated.

Thanks for all the well wishes, still struggling with what just happened. The OB/GYN at the ER mentioned my wife have a rare case called INCOMPETENT CERVIX, where the Cervix just open up without any warning, in the future they'll have to stich it after 12 weeks and to get plenty of bedrest, They say it's something they can't diagnose until it actually happens to you the 1st time. Wishing nobody has to go through that ordeal.
