Ladies - how are you all doing? My son at 4+ weeks is ready to rollover...holy #######!!!! My mother was at my house tonight and Enzo was laying on the couch - he started kicking his legs and moving his arm across his chest to rollover. OMG!!!

Kelly - WTG Zaid!

Chrissy - I was thinking about you yesterday...I wanted to tell you, if you haven't already done so is to pack your bag with your own shampoo/conditioner and bath gels. Don't forget your hairbrush either! I realized that I wanted nothing more than my own items after a few days of using the crappy stuff in the hospital.

I think Henry was 2 weeks old when I put him on his belly in his crib (he was being fussy) next thing I know he's rolled over onto his back, he's done this 2 times already but his head control has always been strong. The photographer came to our house yesterday and she was hoping he would just rest his chin on his hands, well Mr Henry decides he is going to show off and kept his head held up the entire time!

Staashi, thinking about Ben, maybe you or your MIL know this

Is Ben too young to try yerba mate? I've seen babies drink some mate in Argentina when they turn 1 but not really sure how good that is for them

We know it has caffeine, but it is also so good for constipation. Putting pros and cons on the balance, that could be something else that they could try?. My thinking is: it can't be worse than adult strength laxatives. Thoughts?

Saludos,

Caro

Caro: I agree on the Mate. When Jona was constipated this last weekend my MIL's BF said for fun hey you want some coffee and a smoke - cause that unplugs most people. ;) The MAte might be fine as during breastfeeding, you can have up to 2 cups coffee per day. Mate steeped for a short time will have less I think.

After the constipation episode he now has a cold. Sniffles and loose cough, no fever. His first sickness, poor little guy. He still refuses all solids and I'm starting to wonder if he will ever eat anything. But he is doing fine and still gaining weight while I'm loosing it - nursing really does the trick I guess. SIL's nephew is 12 months now and isn't eating anything but formula (mom couldn't breastfeed due to brain tumor). It is apparently quite common and those kids don't need the extra nutrients. but I can't wait to see him eating veggies and drinking water from a cup.

@Anna: allie has the same thing Jona had. She hadn't pooed in days now. SHe's still happy so I'm not concerned about it being constipation but I sure would like to see something coming back out of her. Wet diapers are plenty, but not dirty diapers. She hadn't eaten any solids in two days now in hopes that the milk will eventually clean out whatever is in there (she had a little bit of a roll on the airplane and a buttercookie). I guess I'll just wait and see.

Evi: Jona was complaining at night about the backup. Throughout the day he was a happy camper. The doc could feel the backup on the left side of the tummy, like a 'sausage' inside. Try to see if you feel something... Anyhow, I think the flax seed oil and one dose of nux vomica got it out. He hasn't stopped pooping yet!!!

I think i'll try to introduce ben to the pacifier today. last night was really stressful, he woke me up at 330, and kept me awake until almost 6, where i could finally get another 1.5 hour of sleep.

every time i thought he was done, i would let him sleep in my arms for a few min n then i'd put him on his sleep positioner and back to sleep. then he'd start crying again, n repeat the same process. i was so exhausted, first when he woke me up it took me 5 min to open my eyes n get out of bed, n during those 2 hours awake, my eyes kept closing, i couldn't feed him lying down because i was afraid i was going to fall asleep, n being sitted required a huge effort, i had to always be moving something to make sure i would not pass out.

My MIL said that yerba mate should be fine for a baby - she also said that silvestre...which has a name in english (I just can't think of it) is what she used to give my hubby and BIL all the time. Ever since Enzo had his little bout with constipation in the beginning we've been using chamomile tea or anise seed tea instead of water as the liquid in his formula. So far it has been excellent with Enzo pooping each day.

Stef - some other ideas from my MIL:

a) Give Ben some fresh squeezed orange juice - nothing that has been processed.

B) Pureed pumpkin with olive oil

c) Give Ben a spoonful of olive oil alone - she said that is an old fashioned remedy - and it works!

d) Use the suppositories to help the hard fecal matter come out, but use the other items as an aid to help stimulate his intestines to work again.

Honestly, I wouldn't be experiencing on BEn. Apparently it is not regular constipation that he has once in a while but it seems to be a problem that is reoccuring frequently and probably has another reason that should be checked out by a doctor.

Oh, I'm not advising to experiment - I'm just offering suggestions of valid, known methods of relieving constipation. Ben has a serious problem, but there might be a few methods to try to get him to poop before resorting to adult strength laxatives.

PS - all my suggestions are natural, not medicinal.

WELCOME TO MY WORLD!!!!!!

Seriously, I'm going insane, last night Sofia woke up at 1.15am and didn't go to sleep until 7am that my mom came to pick her up.

I tried the pacifier so many times but she hates it, she spits it and I tried different brands so she just doesn't like them plain. I don't know what I'm going to do when my mom is not here (and I'm already worried about it).

She is not having problems with gases anymore she is a happy baby but during the nights she just doesn't sleep AT ALL and this have been happenning since day one.

She eats, falls sleep on my arms, I put her on her crib and 5 minutes she starts crying again. We tried so many things, formula before going to sleep, change her sheets, bathe her, creams, massages, keep her awake during the nights and nothing works.

Tonight my parents are keeping her with them, I'm going to bed now. Good luck Nessa!

Hugs
