@ Nessa - Totally normal about the pooping. My doctor had explained that, when babies are that young, eating triggers the gastrocolic reflex which causes pooping. It stops over time.

About who the baby looks like --- when Declan was born, everyone thought he was the spitting image of my husband. Over time, Declan is starting to look like me as well and really is more of a mix of our features. It'll be so interesting to see Ben as he grows and changes :)

@ Staashi - Do you feel you are producing enough milk? The reason I ask is that breastfeeding was such a struggle for me. Finally, at my 6 week OB-GYN check, he ran a blood test to measure my prolactin level, and it was low. So, he prescribed Reglan to increase my milk supply and it was amazing. I wish I had had my prolactin tested sooner, but everyone kept telling me to be patient and breastfeeding would get better.

@ Kelly - I love ya girl, but honestly I am shooting you the bird right now ... you are SO LUCKY Zaid is a good sleeper!!! :P

@ Stef - Awww, poor Ben. I hope it gets figured out and he starts feeling better and sleeping better. BTW, I thought of you the other day. We are considering moving because the job situation is hideous for hubby up here. I applied online for a job in Mahopac NY. I've been keeping my eye out for interesting jobs in the NY or CT area. If I end up somewhere close enough in NY, Ben and Declan can have a play date!

Nessa,

When he was little, Ilyas would poop about 10 times a day. Seriously. I think that breastfeeding inspires lots of poop (especially in some kids). The number of daily poops gradually went down, and diminished a lot once he started solid food at 6 months. The best thing about breastmilk poop is it doesn't smell! Once they start solids, though, is another stinky story...

Staashi,

Don't worry--you'll be able to pump more soon. At first I could only pump 1 1/2 - 2 ounces at a sitting. After a while I could pump 4-8 ounces per session. My son, at 8 months, still only drinks 4-5 ounces at a time (I think some babies can drink up to 8 ounces by his age, but I guess he just likes to eat more frequently. I'm not about forcing him to eat more at once).

Almost every time she pees today there is a lot of mucus when she wipes is this normal? Seems like a lot of mucus. I thought the mucus just came out really at once, not an all day event.

Eric@Have you called the doctor? 'cause that's whta happened to me before gong into labor, Good luck!

Nessa@ Sofia poops all the time, I'm changing diapers all the time, seriously, and she has a lot of gases, we told the doctor and he said that is ok. BTW, we are buying the Swaddlers - Pampers, we love them, Huggies don't work for us, the same with the wipes, the "Sensitive" ones are great.

Today I found out that my grandma died 1 month ago and nobody wanted to tell me (I was pregnant) I found out through an email sent to my mom, grandma Rosa died 5 days before Sofia was born and it was a big secret, I was very close to her, I was her oldest grandaughter and the last years she moved in to my house, I still in shock, I'm not mad at my family I understand that they didn't want hte news to affect my pregnancy but still, you know, I can't believe that she is dead.

Girls gotta go, I will try to sleep, the little one just went to sleep (for a few hours)

have a good night

@Autumn - I have the prescription for Reglan - I need to start taking it. I know, I know - 40 lashes with a wet noodle. :bonk:

@Vi - sorry about your Abuela...(F) I had a similar situation when my friend didn't want to tell me about his wife's cancer spreading dramatically when I was pregnant - I had to tell them that although these things might distress me, I'm not a flower that will wither.

@vi: sorry to hear that. my ex stepfather died while i was pregnant and my mom thought about not telling me, but i'm glad she did. i think if it was someone too close, like immediate family, then i could get stressed n not be good for the baby.

i'm using pampers sensitive wipes as well n love them. as for the diapers im using cloth ones. so the poop don't smell much at first, but then i put the diapers in the laundry room and wash them every other day. the laundry room stinks hardcore lol. i need to buy some kind of sealed garbage can to leave them in between washes.

ah ok. i read if u bf the baby cannot ever be constipated.

ok that's what I've heard too, but it's not true. I bf for 6 months exclusiovely and still am at night and since he was 2 months old he has been extremely constipated. The longest he went without a bowel movement was 2 weeks, and when it finally came out, his rectum pushed out too. I guess it's rare and it's the reason why his pedi hasn't done anything until now.

It is true though that a bf baby can go wihtout a bm for a couple of days.

@Vi: sorry about your grandma! (F) it was very considerate of your family to wait until sofia is born.

@Autum: yay! We live 5 min away from Mahopac! We'll be neighbours! good luck with the job search! It's about 45 min drive to the Bronx, 1hr to Manhattan, so it's still fairly close if you decide to look into NYC jobs. keep me posted!!

When he is asleep, but still latched, try slipping your pinky finger into his mouth and break the latch before taking him off the breast. It should help.

Breastmilk is digested very quickly. That is why most breastfed babies will poop with every feed. It is also why they will usually eat more frequently.

@Vi: I'm sorry about your grandma. I think I would be pretty upset with my family for not telling me. I know they dont want to hurt feelings in a situation like that but I rather know in time than being the one left out and completely clueless. Hugs to you.

@nessa: Adam would poop before, during and after a feeding. It was rediculous. I was surprised to see that Allie wouldn't poo as much as every other day or even every four days. She poos more now than back when she was a newborn. We also took Adam to the pediatrician when he was one week old to ask about the poop and they said that everytime they suck on something it triggers the 'release' down there. Also, foremilk has a laxative effect on babies intestines that's why it sometimes sounds like a blowout.

I'm back from the doctor and he's doing great. No problems at all. He gained 9oz, which is good. I have to go back monday when he's going to be 2 weeks old to see if he's back to his birth weight, but i'm sure he will, considering he's eating a lot lately.

ok i thought i'd give it a chance and go to the clinic on base, but i just don't like that place, I have some issues trusting people that work there, because to get a job there is easy if you're military or associated to it, it doesn't mean they're the best, or even good enough. So I really want a private practice.

So i'm seeing a pediatrician in town. It's 2 of them in this office, which is good, cuz I can see whichever is available at the time, something that I really liked when I was seeing the obgyn, there were 4 of them, so I could have appointments whenever i wanted.

So we'll see. I'm probably being too picky, but it's my baby and I want the best for him.
