Isa@ thank you for your good wishes, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with this trip, usually I'm ready weeks in advance but I cannot believe thta I'm leaving tomorrow night. This is the second time I'm traveling by myself to Peru, the last time I flew two days ahead of my hubby and just for 2 short days I was crying in the way to the airport and when we had to say goodbye, I feel a littel guilty too, Silvio is very very close to Sofia, those two are in love with each other so now I feel like If I'm taking her away from him (I know I'm stupid for thinking on thta way).

Everything is almost ready, we are leaving to get the permission to travel notarized

@ caybee: Jona didn't want solids, we offered starting at 6 months, but he still isn't a fan. He eats a couple things now (nearly 17 months), but we never had to worry, he weighs 31 pounds and is quite tall, obviously, he's thriving!

I generally recommend Motrin over Tylenol after my personal bad experience with Tylenol. So if Jona ever gets stuff, it's Motrin. I didn't medicate him at all on the plane, their was no need. For ear pressure (which he never showed symptoms of) just nurse the baby / give bottle / paci / something to eat and it should be fine. What's the Benadryl supposed to do? I really do not like giving medications unless really necessary.

My kids were totally opposite. If they were sitting on my lap while I was eating they'd almost always try to grab something off my plate and eat it. The problem I had was that they didn't want the mushed up baby food, they wanted real food! I remember when they started to walk at 11 months, getting up from the table and coming back to find half my food missing lol.

I got worried when they were like 6 mo old, and when I told the doctor this - how they'd steal stuff off my plate - she cracked up laughing and said "Wow I guess they're hungry."

Eman was the same way. I tried to give him baby food over and over but he refused to eat it. When I would give him food off my plate, he would devour it. This was at about 5-6 months old.

I started making mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes on a regular basis... those were their favorites. Every couple of days I'd introduce a new vegetable or fruit (unless they 'accidentally' stole one off my plate and then that would become the new food, lol) The doc said it was fine as long as I tried one food at a time and watched for allergic reactions. I'm wondering if this baby is going to be the same way

My friend's daughter (who is the same age as the boys) never wanted to eat food, according to my friend. One day they came over and I was feeding the boys sweet potatoes that I made (not from the baby food jar). I just boiled them and whipped them with my hand blender. I never saw a baby inhale food so fast. Turns out my friend was just trying to give her jarred baby food & she wasn't warming it up either :o I mean, babies are babies but they're not stupid!! I wouldn't eat cold yucky jarred food either. Yuck! Now, those table time things I used to eat... you know, the ones that look like spaghetti o's? One spoon for the baby one spoonful for me, lol

It really depends on your child and if they get enough breastmilk/formula and if they are ready. Jona displayed no symptoms of readiness for food. I mean he sat up and had a pincer grasp, but he choked at the mere sight of food. He didn't even want to play with it. He now doesn't really like non-jarred foods. He doesn't like home-cooked stuff at all, apart from mashed potatoes or lasagna. But not two days in a row, please. It also depends what kind of jarred foods you buy. Earth's Best and Safeway Organics are good, I try it before I give it to him and it tastes good and smells good. I recently attended a baby shower and they played that game guess what this jar food is. It all smelled and tasted disgusting. It was the cheapest Gerber food they bought and I must say it's offensive! Yucky, who would ever want to eat that?!!?!?!??!!? Oh yeah, and some people don't heat it up, duh, baby won't eat that. Hubbie's relative who has a tumor and hence cannot breastfeed offered her kid cold formula and was surprised he didn't want to eat it.... You know, some people... Just do funny things!

ewww cold formula

What's strange is that the boys liked cold milk - cow's milk - after they were like 1 1/2 years old. They didn't like their milk warmed up. Weird. I think my mom or somebody gave it to them cold in the summertime then they got hooked. I have to say I'm the same way!

My sister was a milk baby. She didn't want anything to do with food for a really long time. She would chug bottles of formula - I remember my mom going nuts. I think the only thing she could get my sister to eat was that Gerber rice cereal.

Ben likes everything warm. i mash banana with cereal and i warm it up a little bit.

when did you guys quit giving them formula? i know it's at least 1 year, but i can;t imagine have to feed him food every time he wants to eat. when he's home and awake he usually eat every couple hours, that's probably why he's so chubby. Do they stop eating so frequently after they're 1?

Rayan has started eying our food, reaching for it, and making his hungry face. He also wants to nurse whenever we eat. So I have a feeling he'll be ready by six months. I'm seeing some of the pincher grasp. He's passing things from hand to hand and tries to shove everything into his mouth. My sister got him a booster seat to attach to a chair so he can sit at the table with us. I've tried him in it on the floor, and he loves sitting upright playing with toys on the tray.

We're going to try the organic baby foods, and we'll be careful of sugar and salt, but I suspect he's going to have his dad's taste for spices. If we let him smell spicy food, he's very interested. I read that he gets a taste of whatever flavors I'm eating, and I've eaten spicy food all through pregnancy and BF. I also read that it isn't really necessary to keep things bland. So we'll go slowly to screen for allergies, but I think we're going to end up pureeing a lot of what we have ourselves.

I'm the USC.

We started Hana and Zak on solids at four months. Our ped recommended we try to get them on cereal to help them bulk up a bit. Well...they hated cereal and still do to this day. Around six months we started fruits and veggies. They liked it so much we went to twice a day real easy. Around 8 months they went to three times a day. Then...they started weaning themselves off formula at about 10.5 months. They would drink minimal amounts. I was worried they weren't getting their nutrients so I started to mix formula and milk 50/50 then. That worked like a charm. They are now, at one year this week, totally on whole milk and table foods. It is easier, and harder, at the same time that they are no longer on baby food or formula. Now I actually have to cook food in the evenings!

As for spices, they LOVE spices. They love to share hard boiled eggs rolled in cumin with their dad. Anything with cinnamon is the best! We just try to stay away from the peppery stuff.

Hi ladies!!

Karen(autumnchik) doesn't currently have internet access at her mom's house here in FL so I am in charge of writing about our meeting today!

It was awesome! Karen is super nice, fun, and very friendly. Her husband was also very nice - both easy to talk to and we had a lot of fun! It was really cool seeing our sons together. They do look a little alike in some ways we feel. Kavi was shy for awhile, Declan was a sweetheart and happy boy. We ate Greek food and then went to a small aquarium.
