While I really do appreciate your input, the following are the reasons why I cannot do those jobs.

A: US Military - Unfortunately they will not hire me because I hold a German Residence Permit and therefore, I am "Ordinarily Resident." Every German citizen living in Germany can work on an Air Force/Army base, but I cannot.

B: American Companies - This is what I search for pretty much daily. Unfortunately, the only American company located some-what close to me is Siemens - in which case they either want me to be a doctor or an engineer. (I am not, by the way. Dang!) I do, however, continue to check daily..

C: English Tutor - You have to be able to speak German to explain why certain things are or are not spoken/written in English. My German is not nearly good enough for that.

And it's okay to be "Negative Nancy" because I am the same way when it comes to my job prospects. lol

I guess I was just hoping some Germans out there could give me some tipps or something..

I am the USC, my husband is German.

I resided in Germany from July 2008-October 2013.

I have two stepsons who are staying in Germany.

Hm the tutoring is still valid, cause in high school we were not allowed to use German whatsoever. Only an English-english dictionary and all explanations in English... So you should be fine there!

@Veronica: What types of jobs did you hold in the US? Do you have a degree? I don't know how long you will stay in Germany but you could also start a "Ausbildung" (Apprenticeship) which doesn't pay very well for the first few years but at least you could get some German training and improve your German language skills. After that you would receive a German certificate for a certain job. Your German would probably be a lot better by then. The medical field would be good - Nursing, CNAs at retirement homes etc. The university in Nuremberg is well known for nursing and they pay quite a bit during the "Ausbildung". My best friend works there as an ICU nurse. Just giving you an idea here.

@Nina: Viel Glueck mit dem Removal!!!!

@Steffi: Was fuer eine Saubande!!!

@Veronica: I would also suggest a "Ausbildung" or "Studium". But please do not go into Nursing unless you really absolutely want to be unemployed, underpaid and live by 6 months contracts, no night dif, no holiday pay etc... The only places that hire right now are home care nurses and the reason behind that is that no one wants to work there. I worked at a children's hospital in Berlin and I had to fight for the renewal of my contract every 6 months and was making way less money than the older nurses while working more hours.

Have you been to the "Arbeitsamt"? I know they are a pain but being a native english speaker is a plus. What did you do in the US? What kind of schooling have you done here and what are your interests? Do you have a US embassy nearby?

The german job market is tough, you need to have excellent skills, preferrably experience etc to get a good job. Good luck! Keep us posted!

@Nina: Mensch Du bist ja flott, wann laeuft Deine GC ab?

@Veronica I do agree with what everybody else said before. College would definately be good. Sometimes they have majors that are in both languages. My husband studied in Germany for his masters and that program was in both languages. He did not speak a word of german when he started. The first semester he had only classes in english and the other semesters he had both. Maybe that would be something for you. He did learn german quickly once I stopped speaking english with him all together. :)

Thank you everybody for the helpful replies.

Unfortunately, I do not hold a degree. Prior to moving to Germany, I was a Legal Secretary for my local County Counsel. I feel that my job was well respected as not all people could do it. I thought this would be sufficient enough to find me a decent job here, but boy was I wrong!

Many times I have considered doing an Ausbildung, however, my husband and I wanted to move back to California "yesterday" and most all ausbildungs are 3 years or more. I still continue to think about it - trying to find a local company that will give me a chance to do an ausbildung even tho my German is bad.

I have been looking into trying to go back to school, which has been my plan all along. I would like to obtain a degree in Criminal Justice. I just have to get the ball rolling.. ie: Pick a college "local" to my old neighborhood in California, copy of my old transcripts from when I DID go to college, find suitable online courses, etc..

yeah thats germany for you, if you want to have a decent job you need to have a "ausbildung" in that field..... sorry!

who long are going to be in germany? starting a "ausbildung" is only worth it if you stay in germany for at least 4-5 years! i wouldnt recommend not going in the medical field though, youre just going to have severe problems getting the "ausbildung" accepted in the states, most health jobs require a us certification.....

@Susanne: yay das hoert sich gut an! Ich werd das heute abend mal mit hubby besprechen!

@Veronica: I would go to the Arbeitsamt and see if they can direct you to a "Minijob" and then I would try to take online classes in criminal justice. My husband went to John Jay in NYC and they have online classes. :-) Or do you like children? There are some families who would probably ecstatic if they could get their hands on a native english speaking nanny or babysitter.
