Touching moment with Pres. Carter

I stood in line for an hour this evening for a book signing that former President Carter was doing. I know that many of my Arab/Muslim friends and family have alot of respect for him.

Well security was so very tight. You couldn't take pictures with him and you really didn't have time to say much as they were herding us through so quickly. He would briefly look up and smile as people passed.

When it came to my turn, he looked up as he was signing the book and smiled at me. I said, "My husband is Palestinian and we have alot of respect for you."

He put down the pen. He looked right at me and raised his hand to his mouth and then touched the same hand to his heart. That gesture really meant alot to me and said so much.

I with my whole heart think this man wants peace for all in the Middle East.

I just wanted to share that with my MENA peeps!

I have oodles of respect for President Carter and his wife Rosalynn. They are two of my favorite people who walk this earth. I know that his policies during his administration were/are despised to this day, but I believe that his activity since being president has been amazing. I especially love his commitment to the Middle East but most of all his enduring concern with Habitat for Humanity.

I am so excited for you that you had a wonderfully touching moment with him - how cool is that!

I have a lot of respect for him. Shaman's say he's an old soul that does want peace and he got jipped when he was in office. He has founded a world peace foundation and he was the only one willing to talk to Hamas when many were calling him a crazy old fool. The Borah Symposium, which I co-chair for 2008-2009, has tried to get him in the past. His fee is 1 million dollars. Way over our budget. I wish I had known you were going. I would have loved to have a signed copy of any book from him really! Thanks so much for sharing!
