Fingerprints for RCMP Check??

Ok- I've done a little more research on this whole RCMP police check and I'm curious to know if people who applied for the K-1 had to have their fingerprints done to get their RCMP police check? Someone from the RCMP just called me back to tell me that I have to first get my fingerprints done at the Commisionaire's, then send it in to the RCMP along with my request to get my check. She also mentioned the turn around time is 4-5 months and the check is only valid for 3 months. How does that makes sense if I only get a couple months notice for my interview date? When I phoned my local police (Ottawa police) they said their checks are nationwide and use the same system as RCMP and I can get it the same day... doesn't this sound more like what I need? If anyone can shed some light on this for me, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

No... You only have to do that if you have a criminal record. IF you have no criminal record, a name based police report will suffice.

Te RCMP person was misinformed!! Just tell then you require the Canadian wide background check. (that is if no criminal record)

I got my daughter's and my RCMP police checks done in B.C. and didn't require any fingerprinting. They did it while we waited and it was done by our names (and previous names) and birthdates.

Just go to the Commissionaire's office and they'll know exactly what you need. I got mine in Scarborough 2 copies for $25 and they mailed them to me 5 days later. Canada wide name and birthdate check.

You only need fingerprints if you have a record.

Same with me I just went to the local RCMP detachment and asked for a nation wide criminal name check and I was done within 20 minutes (it cost me $35.00 total) ... That was even getting both of my surnames checked as I had changed my name years ago to my step fathers surname ...

I got mine done by the RCMP in Jasper, AB. It took about 2 minutes and it was free.

It depends where you live. Is it in Ontario. I got mine done and the RCMP doesn't do it but they have a service or something that you go to in Niagra Falls and it's a name and birthdate check. I had all three of my last names checked for 25 bucks and it comes from the RCMP. But it's not at the RCMP. Does that make sense ?

You have to remember too that the RCMP doesn't sit around waiting to run fingerprint checks for Canadians leaving the country who need to satisfy a request by the foreign government. Thats why it makes sense.

I am waiting for the first baboon to come on here who gets a name check with a criminal record, goes to the interview, gets told they need a fingerprint check, and comes on here bitching about how long it takes.

I have no criminal record and they made me get the whole fingerprint 5 months wait thing. I guess its good to be informed beforehand so you dont get roped into doing somehting u dont need to because the RCMP officer manning the station doesnt know better :/

AHA! Confirmation! I used to always say do both but everyone laughed at me.

See, I had my wife do both.. she came home and told me she didnt need the fingerprints.

I made her go back and do it. The paperwork arived from the RCMP about a week before her interview. It was spooky.

We did not need it but I was kind of hoping they would ask anyhow..

I just came back from getting my fingerprints done in Ottawa. I didn't realize that it would take 3-4 months to get results back. I'm expecting my "packet 3" any day now.

So fellow Canadians, is it safe to say that we don't need the fingerprint RCMP thing for our interview, if we do not have a criminal record?

Because I know, like you guys have said, the nationwide name check only takes like 15 min. If I can setup my interview date with only that at hand for now, I will

NO Criminal record ever, NO Fingerprinting, simple as that!!! (unless the USA governement specifically says that you do!!)
