and God save the Queen.

gawwdddd you izzz ollldddzzzz.

You aren't even that old E, are you? That is amazing you were still singing God Save the Queen. Who else here sang it growing up? Let this be a testament to your age!!!! I dare you!!!

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

What I don't get is what would bother anyone about the anthem, I don't think it has anything controversial in it? With the Allegiance - you are actually pledging allegiance, and it would seem disrespectful to say those words if you didn't mean them (imo)

On the other hand the Canadian anthem just says 'stand on guard' - I guess it could be the word 'God'?

I figured it could be the mention of God or it is someone who is pissed that school may not sing it in french. Either or was my thinking, really. Although because it didn't say all we can do is make assumptions and I do hate doing that.

In Elem. we always said the Lord's prayer and God save the Queen. I don't remember Oh Canada till Jr. High... that was played every morning over the PA right before the announcements.. In High School .. nada.. just on Remembrance Day etc.

Yes! It was God Save the Queen! Bless you, E, you have jogged my memory. (Haha. I spelt "memory" wrong twice! ) We did all three. The Lord's Prayer; God Save the Queen; and Oh Canada.

Thats just sad. If those parents don't want their kids to participate then perhaps they should get on a boat and go back to where they came from!

Errr...kidding.

I think schools should stop trying to please every single parent, especially with things as traditional as our anthem. If their kids don't want to participate than they shouldn't have to, allow them to sit during it. But don't take the entire school down with you.

I always enjoyed standing for the anthem and in high school I used to sing it out loud.

My homeroom teacher would close the door just before it came on so I wouldn't disrupt the other classes.

That was before they cut the school hours. We used to start at 8:30 and end at 4:30. I guess they didn't need so much time after they cut out the morning ritual. LOL

Haha. I remember the time Eric Klein had his pants pulled down and spanked in front of the class. I "went steady" with him a few years later. LOL. He was my first kiss. We both hated it. I think it might have gone smoother if he hadn't tried the tongue thing.

Love it....

My first kiss.. wow.. was with my camp counsellor.. I've probably told this story before.. I was going into grade 7 and had this crush on my guy counsellor.. last night of camp we made out in the couches at the back of chapel.. then the next day when it was time for the dean to pass out t-shirts to the campers I was handed mine and all you hear is him saying "you are a CAMPER?".. He thought I was a counselor the whole week of camp.. :bonk: He messed up and kissed on of his camp kids!!

And what about the other parents' concern about NOT singing the anthem, don't they get a say? Perhaps it's a select few that have "concerns" and thus it has been stopped, what about everyone else? I'm sure the majority are upset it has stopped and feels the same way we do. I'm sure this school doesn't have a "Christmas" party they have a "Holiday" party grrrrr
