Hello,

My Fiancee has arrived in USA and I had a question regarding the Marriage License. I am looking on the Application for License and see that they require both mine and hers Social Security Number. She does not have one yet. Is this needed to obtain a marriage license?

Thank You in Advance.

it really depends. You should call the office that does the marriage licenses where you're getting married to be sure.

some places will overlook that and some won't.

I don't know when you are getting married, but when my fiance came here, we waited about 10 days and then went and filed for one. He had it in 7-10 days after that.

If you have the time to, I suggest her filing for one.

My then-fiance did not have one at the time. They just took his passport number and said it happens all the time.

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

For the state of NY, a SSN is not required to get married. If you are having a problem getting a SSN for your fiance, I would simply put "NA" where the SSN goes, and see if that flies.

This is the primary reason K-1 is work auth. Apply for a SSN about 10 days after entry to the USA.

NOTE: K-1 is not a work visa, it is a fiancee visa for entry to the USA and marriage, K-1 is "Work Auth" primarily to be able to get the SSN, some states are strict in their interpretation of a federal law that requires persons applying for a "license" to have SSN, this can cause a problem with marriage license if only one person has SSN and the other (the K-1 holder) does not.
