Yes I think We (the iMmigrants) change when We started to Life here, the style of life is different in many ways but Its not so drastic. there're some things that I had to change like as You said about your wife I also gain some weight here  but the changes are not deep, I mean we wont change our personalities that is something You got from all the experiences of you life.

Yeah I changed since I'm living here I AM AN ALIEN NOW :lol::lol:

My mum says I say 'Huh' now and that I am alot more active here than I was at home. I think I am much more relaxed, stressfree and a whole lot thinner (due to illness though).

The biggest thing though is I am sooo much happier here than in the UK, life in Ok especially is totally different to my stressed out life near London. I have no doubt I will live longer and happier thanks to my emigration!

Not much. I only got used to the way they do things here. Jobwise I retained the same attitude, which doesn't bother anyone.

I (try to) keep eating the same stuff I used to.

Do you think you have changed since you moved to the USA? When you go back to your country of birth do your family and friends there say you have changed? Have you really changed or is there just a perception of change.

I'll let ya know when I go back home in 3 weeks.

Physically I have changed. I've lost 73 lbs since moving here almost a year ago.

I think for people coming from Canada/UK/W. Europe the transitions (while still difficult) is a little easier. A lot of things are different but a lot of things are the same. I know for my husband the change has been DRASTIC!!!

Here is an example: His brother moved here 10 years ago from Morocco, he married a Morccan woman, lives in an "Arabic" neighborhood of NYC, has Moroccan friends, works with Moroccan men, watches Arabic TV, speaks only Arabic at home, and eats only Moroccan food. Needless to say he's not very assimilated.

My husband has been here for 4 months: He speaks mostly English at home, goes to school with many different students and speaks English, works with Arabic and American people, eats all kinds of food, we don't have Arabic TV. Whatever he drinks he now likes cold not warm. He tries new things. At first he wanted to move to NYC with his brother but now he is starting to really like living here with minimal Arabic contact. Has he changed? HUGELY!!!! And I really think our quality of life here will be much better becasue of it.

PLEASE PLEASE ......if you were polite in your country of origin keep it up. I love the good ole USA but I think we have gotten way to familar and a little politeness goes a long way. No one seems to say please and thank you any more and it is such a little thing that can have such a large impact. You dont have to adopt everything us long timer US citizens do.

I dont tend to correct people if they dont do I just make sure that I do it all the time so people hear it and get used to it so that maybe just maybe they will pick the habit up.

Anyway I know I sound like a nut but I really wish every USC new and old would use please and thank you more often.

Paul/Anna

Very Good America.

Your story is a good example of adapting to a new country.

Wow, Javaman, your wife moved from K-stan to Western KY.....I went to U.of K., I can imagine her impressions, yes people are friendly there to make life easier.

Personally, I lived 5 years in HCMC, Vietnam when I met my life. I definitely needed my American food and conversation (fixes) to keep me sane. I lived 75%Vietnam and 25% Western.

When Thuy and I moved to the States, I knew she needed some VNs connection but not 100%. Orange County, California (Little Vietnam) would NOT be good for her. However, she's bored with my hometown in Northern Kentucky, near Cincy. Therefore, Virginia/DC is perfect, many VNs shops, friends & restaurants but it's still the real America.

SHE: is more confident, weighs a little more, more hard working and happier. Still misses family though :(
