So if they have a co sponser and she is getting means based assistance does that mean her co sponser will have to cough up the money to repay that assistance ?

Not for a US Citizen. It's the immigrant that's being sponsored.

it does raise an interesting point though. if the USC is the one on assistance, but the immigrant is also benefitting from said assistance due to living in the house/eating the food ect..wouldnt it be that, in fact the immigrant is using the assistance also? hmmm

i know it doesnt affect the cosponsor, just thinking in text again.

To the OP,

Good Luck on your journey :)

Good question.

And another one. Once he gets here will she still be eligible to apply for assistance? I think it would be best to give this some serious thought before you decide how to proceed.

And Diana has some great advice. Go for the CR1 so he will be able to work shortly after arriving.

Edited to correct spelling and grammar, otherwise pushbrk will correct me.

In due time, when her husband begins to earn his own income, the housing assistance will end. So will the food stamps and anything else coming as a result of her low income and medical condition. In any event, the same food stamps she is now entitled to will not be increased due to his presence; he can't be on the lease; and he gets no federal or state benefits of any kind.

Yes, once he is here, she can stay on or if off by then reapply for foodstamps if she needs them. He cant, but she can

You will clearly need a cosponsor. An attorney can't change that fact.
