I am having a little trouble filling out the I-864. Please help. I am trying to sponsor my wife, who is on a f1 visa currently. I just graduated from med school and only worked 3 months in 2008, but still made enought to qualify at 125% of poverty line. This year (2008) will be my first year filing taxes, and I am self-employed.

1)What do i need to send in as evidence with my I-864?

2)On form I-864, what do I list as my current annual income: my income for 3 months of work, or what my income would be if I worked for a whole year.

3)Since I have no other tax returns, do i need to submit a letter stating my circumstances (and if so I'm not sure how detailed to be).

4)I'm independently contracted by someone to work at their office. Should i include a copy of our contract, which includes my annual salary and terms of employment. Or is that not necessary since i'm self-employed.

Best to get last 3 years of tax transcripts from IRS [1-800 829 1040] if self employed.

I think if you supply a copy of your employment contract as well as an explanation letter and perhaps a copy of your diploma you should be just fine. The employment contract will show a set fee amount or salary even though you may be 1099 and the diploma will show that you were a student and do not have the 3 years tax returns needed for true self employed individuals and the letter will break it down for them.
