Infopass question

Hi all,

We handed in my I-751 application in January 2008, so it has been over a year now. The USCIS website says that, as of November 2008, the processing timeframe for Vermont for I-751 applications is January 2008.

I'm a bit concerned that this is taking so long. If I need to go for an Infopass appointment to get the stamp in my passport, how far from my expiration date (April 2009) can I do this? In general, can you get Infopass appointments fairly quickly or is there a wait?

As ever, many thanks for your help :)

I would call USCIS and ask the questions? Infopasses vary as to when you can get one. You can just go online and try for one. Good luck.

If your NOA expires in April, then probably about 4 weeks before it expires I would start to look at Infopass appointments. You will probably want to make the appointment for about 2 weeks prior to the NOA expiry to allow as much time as possible for the green card to be approved and arrive. I suspect since they are working on January and February cases now if you made an Infopass for now they may not give you the stamp and just tell you to wait and come back closer to your year's expiry date.

I had no trouble making an infopass appointment when i needed to get the stamp (no NOA) but this will allow you some time both to make the appointment and have enough time to set it when you want it.

Hopefully you will not need to make the appointment at all and will receive your greencard very soon now.

I agree with Kathryn, I would wait to near the time before making the infopass appointment. It seems like the Vermont Service Center is the slow poke around here.

We may need to Infopass if we don't get a biometrics notice before we travel in March.

Do they ever give the stamp EARLY in the process? (Just mailed our papers on Monday.)

I'm sort of thinking that if we have to Infopass to get the biometrics sorted (so we don't miss them while we are out of the country) that at least asking for the stamp wouldn't hurt..................

We have an InfoPass appointment and my husbands NOA Expired 1/22/09 He is scared that since we are past the date they may just up and decide to deport him. What is the process when we get there tomorrow? What should we bring just the NOA and his passport?

Since he has submitted his application, he is not out of status even though the card/NOA has expired. His status is considered extended until he receives a decision. The i-551 stamp will be proof of his status - it isn't going to give him the status he already has. He is definitely not going to be deported by requesting the stamp after the NOA expiry date.

When you arrive for the infopass explain to the officer what has happened, Your husband will explain that his NOA has expired and he has still not received a decision on his I-7551 and needs proof that he has valid status and would like the I-551 stamp. They will look up the information based upon his A number, then stamp his passport and that is that - it is about the easiest process there is from USCIS.

Your husband still has legal status - he is just lacking proof of that status and he will get that at the Infopass tomorrow.
