I know Obama has alot on his plate but in general, what do we all think his impact will be in regards with spousal immigration ?

Will he look at it and say no married man nor woman should have to be apart for 6 months not alone a year and a half to two years in many cases ? Therefore decreasing the "waiting time" for lawfully married madly in love couples

Will he since he is the voice and spirit of change ,make the uscis ,nvc and u.s embassys and all "buck up" to helping married couples either with kids or without instead of getting in the way and increasingly make it harder

What IMPACT will he have, what are your thoughts and feelings ,the only thing I have read about his comments on spousal immigration is that he is somewhat open to allowing same sex couples to go through and be allowed to go through the spousal immigration process !

I know nothing will change overnight and their has to be some laws to of course show a valid relationship and marriage but when you hear that it only normally takes uscis 15 mins to look at case the only reason the wait is so long is to put couples off ,no fraud relationships etc

What do we all think Guys ???

The very sad part of it all is, nobody knows how tolling this is on a person, a family, UNLESS they have go thru this process. Knowing that a family happiness lays in the hands of USCIS and the Embassy. We can not help it if our heart fell in love with a foreign national. Love is not always next door. Good luck everyone in our journeys of happiness.

I personally do not think it will change much --- sadly enough this is not a priority for the new administration. Other pressing issues will come first.

As for same sex sponsorship and immigration, as much I would love it for that to happen; I just cannot see it. As long as "marriage" remains this narrow construction of male+female in the eyes of the law, same sex couples are still screwed (F)

I don't think he gives a dang, personally.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I agree with u.

No one , even the president of usa can change the immigrantion system so fast.

all the process is going through in orders. Everything takes time.

Just let it be and rememeber there are ppl who just filed today.

most of us already passed that stage. So let USCIS do their job.

The biggest probelm with USCIS is the Vermont Service Center, their processing times are awful. Sometimes they crank up the wheel and spin them out, but for the most part, their wheel is broken. I went thru this once in Jan. 08 and now we are re-filing in a couple of weeks, and already dreg that our petition will be on some dusty shelf covered in cob webs waiting to be processed in 9 months or later.

Call me overly skeptical, but I think the USCIS uses the processing times as a handy excuse to keep a restraint on immigration numbers. No politician is ever elected by allowing more immigrants (even legal) into the country. Unfortuneately we are too small a minority to ever have a voice over all the "get tough on immigration" people. I dont think they really want to lower the processing times, despite all the lip service

Other than possibly recommending the USCIS stop waisting money arguing widows and widowers aren't spouses, I doubt he'll have any impact at all on spouse or fiance(e) immigration. "Waiting time" is a misnomer. We wait, yes but not because somebody has imposed a waiting time. We wait while a necessary process is completed. We would wait less if there were less demand for immigration or more staff and facilities to complete the process faster. USCIS is funded by fees, so unless rules were changed that forced all citizens to pay for the immigration benefits only some seek, another significant fee increase would need to be implemented.

This is just my opinion but I think the process may even get slower in the next few years. With the bad economy there will probably be alot more emphasis on making sure everyone meets the income requirements, there will probably be more requests for co-sponsers there might even be some in congress who want to raise the income requirements.

I dont think the process will speed up, they might try to increse fees claiming they will have to cut back services because they have to scrutinize the petitions more heavily to insure all immigrants wont use government benefits.

The fact is that there is a large minority of people in the county who are opposed to all immigration whether legal or illegal, family based or not family based. This minority is far larger than the immigrant community and they have much more political clout.

So I'll be happy if things just stay about the same and not get far worse...

I have been thinking that now we have a new president that perhaps VJers should get a petition together with all of us electronically signing it. Not that it would help any of us if ever but maybe future VJers.

Well at least to put a bug in his ear that yes we are here we exist and we dont like what is going on nor do we think that is is right that we should be forced into a corner like we are regarding immigration. Maybe it will change who knows but if we do nothing it will always be the same maybe worse

If it takes a fee increase to speed this up, so be it.

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

This is a very good idea, thanks for the link. I'm about one month into the process of waiting on my NOA2 and based on the CR-1 timelines for Ghana, this could be a 1 1/2 year process via VSC for us to be joined together again as a family. :(

Why not leave your comments on this site at Obama's public liaison site, I did. Maybe if enough of us do then we might see some change.
