Requesting tax transcripts from IRS

I am just wondering and freaking out.....

my fiance just received packet 3 today and i thought just having a copy of my 2007 tax returns and w-2's was good enough evidence....well iv read that 3 years would be better and ordering copies from the IRS would be way better....yet they just told me it would be up to 30 days of waiting time.

This is completely #######

Cant I just use the copies I printed off the internet from TurboTax? They look like genuine tax forms.

Social numbers, income, payments and taxs, refund, amount u owe, signing....its all on the form. it says on top 1040EZ-Income Tax return for Single and Joint Filers with No Dependents.

I mean this looks like a form i can just turn into the irs.

So what is so different about these forms I am requesting?

There is no way we can wait 30 days for a couple of forms....so I am hoping there is a simpler way around this.

Just wondering if anyone out there requested 3 years prior....how long did it take for them to get??

And fyi, I have Turbo Tax copies of my last 4 years taxes i filed, along with my dads (co-sponsor) with w-2's....so if I dont really need these copies the IRS are sending me--if they look exactly alike to what I have...then i should just be able to use these.

skparker,

You really only need the most recent year tax information BUT many people bring in the info for the last three years to be on the safe side. You can either submit copies of both, the tax returns (the one you can print out from TurboTax) and its corresponding W2s OR tax transcripts. If you have the tax returns and W2s for the past 3 years, then you can submit that, no need to wait for the tax transcripts.

Again, submit only copies, not originals.

While they designed to present the same information, they certainly do not look anywheres near alike.....

YMMV

That's true. They tax transcripts and tax returns look totally different but they both have the same information.

Hi skparker...

I recently ordered my tax transcripts from the IRS. I can't remember exactly how long it took the transcripts to land in my mailbox, but I believe that it was about a week or so. I think the IRS plays it safe by telling you that it will take 30 days. Then, when you receive the transcripts in only one week, it makes the IRS look very efficient.

I ordered my tax transcripts for tax years 2005, 2006, and 2007...just to play it safe.

It sounds like you have everything else in order regarding your financial papers. How about the letter from your employer? Bank statements might also help. Good luck to you...hang in there...

Interesting...I've ordered mine about two weeks ago and haven't seen them yet! Then again there was a big snow storm that could have delayed the mail lol so I will keep my fingers and toes crossed that it will get here soon. =)

I went to my local IRS office with my husband to turn in a copy of his SSN since we filed last year with a TIN. While there I asked if I could order last 3 years tax returns transcripts. She said yes and printed them on the spot. Took about 2 minutes. I'd recommend going to the local office.

Hi, I just recently requested the 3 years tax information from the IRS. It only took about 10 days to receive this and it was completely free. Very easy and no hassle. You can get the forms online on the IRS web site.

yep, mine took a little less than a week if I remember correctly. Each year (I ordered 3) was in a seperate envelope(because that is efficient and saves money ) and came over a 2 day span.

Good Luck

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!
