Hello everyone!

I filed the i-130 on Jan 2, 2009 and I am sending in the i-129 tomorrow. I was wondering which visa is faster to get approved? and also is it possible to continue the process on both visas once both petitions get approved and how would that work?

Leon,

Since you're going through the US embassy in Bogotá, I highly recommend filing for the CR1 visa. Currently both visa processes are taking about the same amount of time and if you choose to pay all your fees online once the petition is approved and sent to the National Visa Center, the CR1 visa will be much faster. On top of that with a K3 visa your wife will have to file for Adjustment of Status after she arrives, it will take at least 3-6 months to get her work permit approved and even longer to get her permanent residency, and the fee is $1,010. With a CR1 all you have to pay is a total of $470 at the NVC which you can pay online, and your wife will get her permanent resident card in the mail a few weeks after she arrives.
