BC- long version vs. short version?

When you say (USC) Birth Certificate- Long version, what is the content? as compare to the short version? I've seen my fiance'e BC but i have no idea how or what is the difference of long vs short version neither does he. He said there is no such thing as long or short version where he was born (Paula, Kansas) Is this long version mean he has his parents name written in the document and the short version doesn't ? ...pls pardon my ignorance.

That's the biggest difference when there's a difference. Many places only have one version. In those cases it is equal to the "long version".

Short version can be in the form of a card which simply states your name and DOB. The long version here in MA includes parents names, mothers maiden, as well as parents occupation.

It's important to note that an original doesn't mean the first one ever produced after your birth. It simply means a certified copy from the city in which you were born. It costs a few bucks and has a raised seal.

mine doesn't ... I suppose it's dependent on where you're from.

Some have front and back as well. Just something to confuse us more.

BL2B, pushbrk, kimandruss and john & jean - thank you so much for the replies. It helped a lot! ..... he is right the first time he contemplated that his BC must be the long version with his parents and d.o.b./p.o.b. ...in it. Your input gave us peace of mind.
